The fact we've had 2 months to sign players that we KNOW we need and we've signed just ONE doesnt augur well to find a replacement striker in just 2 weeks.
    BORING.

You know how this whole thing is gonna end...
Like London busses, we'll wait all day, and then three will turn up at the same time...🚌🚌🚌
I was on a London bus recently & it stopped for 5 mins so that the service could be "spaced out better".

    Grrrr
You sure it wasn't the driver who was "spaced out"...😵

I’m particularly amused by the idea that Nathan Jones et al have received a bid for Alfie in mid June and suddenly thought “shit we were meant to be looking for a striker, better get started”

Please enlighten us on what’s be going on behind the scenes then. Because it’s clear that you know who we’ve been speaking to, who they’ve scouted and who they’ve offered deals to.

I just hope we don't sign a Scotsman that can't get in to this Scotland team  :D
  • So, 13 days until the squad report for pre season training, 13 days until the point where NJ said he wanted the squad rebuilding completed, or very nearly completed. We are a long way off that point. Lots of murmurings but so far one actual signing. I just hope this isn’t another false dawn.

With regard to Alfie May and his possible departure. On the face of it, it seems bizarre. However, I don’t think Alfie really fits into the system NJ wants to play and he was subbed off a number of games towards the back end of last season, and Alfie himself didn’t seem happy.

It’s a big call for NJ and he will live or die by it. If he thinks we have a better chance of promotion with players who he feels are better suited to his system then so be it. If selling Alfie means we can sign one or two strikers who NJ feels are better suited then it makes some sort of sense. If we sell Alfie and the money isn’t reinvested into the squad then it’s madness.

The clock is ticking. Talking the talk is fine, time to start walking the walk, and quickly.
Well if the rumours are true then Mitchell, Berry and Edwards could all be signing pretty soon. I think we'll see an influx of signings next week.

coventry was by far our best player that night.

He will be a key player this year
But ranged from anonymous to detrimental in his other appearances. He's got to improve drastically

Spot on Large. I'm pretty sure Alfie is off. It will probably happen as our new signing from Swindon is announced to much fanfare.
We signed a keeper and  Midfielder and left back with centre back announced on Monday .. there be another 3/4 before the team go on tour then couple more leading up to the close of the window . …

You get what you pay for. Conor Coventry was a free transfer. If he was top quality then West Ham wouldn’t have given him away.

Hopefully our billionaire owners start spending some money this summer & bring in players that actually improve the quality of the squad. A lot of last seasons signings (Isted, Gillesphey, Conor Coventry, Terry Taylor) were no better / worse than what we already had.

Surely the risk of selling May BEFORE a replacement is signed, is too high. The replacement needs to be through the door first, so that we aren't desperate to sell and command a good / better price. But this is Charlton. Let's see the metal of the owners, and how deep their pockets are. If they NEED to sell May to bank roll any deals, our transfer window is going to be very underwhelming.

£1.5M for Alfie, but priceless for us to get of this division.
    Priceless?

There’s been nine teams promoted in the last three years of Alfie being in this league and none of them had him in it.

I like him. And I’m not saying he’s holding us back.

But our chances of actually achieving anything as a football club are not joined to Alfie May’s hip.
Make you right, Cheltenham should have got promoted :/

I met a stranger over someone’s fence and he/she said they’d been told by another stranger they were talking to, over a different fence, that they’d heard NJ is off.

Cleared his desk this afternoon and is the reason we haven’t announced the 12 signings we’ve made, until Appleton is re installed in the hot seat.

Has anyone heard that Alfie May, may also be off?

You heard it here first folks.

I love the shooting down of Coventry.
you can be sure that we didn’t see the best of him last season. NJ played an ugly brand of football to keep us up.
    He’s hardly played for us.
if the new signings are at a level we expect then we will se a much better player I’m sure.

I thought Coventry was excellent for the most part . Definitely could do the Dobson role next season.
    If he learns to tackle

Coventry is nowhere near as bad as some are making him out to be on here. He's come from a Premier League side (and the same one as Cullen at that) so for some reason he's being unfairly compared to both him and Dobson, when in reality he's competition for the box to box role which was filled most of last season by Anderson, Camara, Bakinson, McGrandles, Taylor and himself. Of that list he was one of the best, bar maybe Anderson who was a lot more raw. I firmly believe he'll be a lynchpin for us this season

Coventry is a classic ‘if’ player.

Better if he has better players around him.
Better if he replicates his performance against Deby.
Better if he learns to tackle.
Bottom line is, he’ll be a lynchpin next season only if he improves, and improves quite a lot.
We’ve had too many of these nearly players in recent years. Let’s look for something closer to the finished article. Players who look good with the ball at their feet, like Cullen, Gallagher, or Ricky Holmes.
I hope he does improve and can fit in with a winning side, but from what we’ve seen of him so far, that’s anything but a certainty. On the plus side he did play a couple of very nice passes that led to goals, but we need more of those for him to be a success.

I shared info about Alfie May being dropped to the bench for the Bolton game which I got from a very close source 6 hours before kick off.

I am seeing that source at 9am tomorrow, I’ll get as much as I can out of him.

Usual disclaimers - no I’m not lying, I’m not after likes, I’m not revealing the source, it won’t be shared bang on 9am probably an hour or so after.

    We're almost into Fergie time
