Cawley’s mentioned Adam Davies in his new article on May.https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/charlton-boss-nathan-jones-on-alfie-may-future-as-huddersfield-pushing-to-complete-deal-for-striker/Charlton have been looking to complete the free transfer signing of keeper Adam Davies, whose Sheffield United deal expires on July 1. Cawley has said on his pod that Ipswich want £1m for Ahadme.4

Was looking into what type of midfielder Bishop is, there’s a good article on he is three years at Lincoln:
https://staceywest.net/2024/02/21/super-ted-the-rebirth-of-ted-bishop/
To summarise he was often played out wide, more recently he’s played centrally and they’re getting the best out of him to the point he’s seen as a top L1, borderline Championship player.
What else stands out are his dribbling stats, clearly a strength of his. Having a CM who can carry the ball well, drive us forward or win free kicks is currently a gap in our midfield. Aribo did it in Bowyer’s team and it adds that threat centrally, taking pressure off the wing backs in the 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 diamond formations NJ favours.8 -

Maybe Alfie wants to go ? has anyone considered that and we are just holding out for the best price ? - Huddersfield will probaly pay more in wages and would be his last decent contract.
No one is irreplaceable - this year the midfield will score more goals and more clean sheets so not the reliance on one striker - Kanu will be a better player next season , Chuks hopefully fitter and Myles to return as well - plus whoever comes through the door.
We need to share the goals out more and not be reliant on one player as in last year. - If Berry can get 10 and another midfileder like Anderson or Coventry get 8 then thatll help the team - plus a few goals from set pieces and corners from the Centre backs itll help . - Yes Alfie would be a miss but its not season over already as some people see it.6 -

Played a similar amount of minutes as Anderson last year and has better stats in pretty much every metric. Karoy obviously has the potential to grow but in terms of next season Bishop looks like he'd be an upgrade

So from the rumours we are waiting on the may money because the ahadme price could be a million but I thought we had money to spend regardless 🤔5

I'm enjoying this framing around Godden age like May is 2211

May is practically a sure thing at this point to hit 20 goals across all comps in a season at this level, Ahadme doesn't offer that on paper, and his hold up play can't be that good or he would have made the grade at Ipswich as they climbed.
There was talk of signing players that would be top end of this league and ready to make the step, Ahadme doesn't strike me as that type of signing, but rather potential/ a punt. So far I'd argue only Berry fits that bill, but because of his age we don't know how long for.

Its finally good to see a number being placed on how many we are looking to bring in (in Cawleys latest piece on May today) and I'm really hoping that we will see another 3 or 4 before the end of next week.
But as it stands we are once again far away from a squad that will challenge the top 6.1 -

I personally wouldn't value him at 1 million, but it's not my money and if he makes Charlton Athletic stronger then I'd be fine with it. I just hope it isn't at the expense of my favourite player who I know will come up with the goods.3 -

Ahadme for 500k is a good signing, he’s not worth £1m+ and Ipswich are taking the piss asking for that. They signed him for a low 6 figure fee and 1 decent spell at Cambridge shouldn’t quadruple that value5
-
Being a handful against us = Playing against a goalkeeper surplus to requirements and a defence who tend to move to L2 once their contract is up.7

People seem to be getting cross that we are possibly spending money one day and then cross that we are being tight when we don't the next.
We have had a much better start to the summer than usual by releasing some players that had to go and bringing 4 in before the start of pre season. We all want more, I am certain Jones and co want it even more than we do. Let's just chill and see how we look in a few weeks.2
