Substitutions are part and parcel of the game, indicates nothing other than a change of personnel to suit a particular situation, Alfie will hopefully be here next season, but as part of a better setup.Yann897 said:

May is practically a sure thing at this point to hit 20 goals across all comps in a season at this level, Ahadme doesn't offer that on paper, and his hold up play can't be that good or he would have made the grade at Ipswich as they climbed.
There was talk of signing players that would be top end of this league and ready to make the step, Ahadme doesn't strike me as that type of signing, but rather potential/ a punt. So far I'd argue only Berry fits that bill, but because of his age we don't know how long for.
To say he will be on the bench per se is misleading...1 -

Well we’ve spent 300k so far , 200k- Mitchell , 100k Edwards . But also there’s still 2 months of the window left so plenty of time left to spend money but atleast we’re spending money rather than loans. I personally wouldn't value him at 1 million, but it's not my money and if he makes Charlton Athletic stronger then I'd be fine with it. I just hope it isn't at the expense of my favourite player who I know will come up with the goods.1 -

We have had a much better start to the summer than usual by releasing some players that had to go and bringing 4 in before the start of pre season. We all want more, I am certain Jones and co want it even more than we do. Let's just chill and see how we look in a few weeks.
If we sign Ahadme he makes us stronger and it isn't my money so I'd be of course fine with it. I do think Ipswich however, are having us on.3 -

Ha, ha, ODL (owner defence league), that’s very good! I’ve got to admit there are several posters on here that seem to defend the owners come what may. Worst season in 98 years, no problem, ‘they’re learning’. Cawley saying we will sell the league's best striker to a rival, no problem, he’s no good anyway. And then floating the rumours that we’re in for expensive players that never happen and the money never gets spent. It’s very strange. Agreed, think we need to see the final 9 before making any conclusions. I'd much rather have 9 solid players in that are going to be utilised well next season than spend £1.5m or whatever on someone like Collins and have less budget to get others in.Swisdom said:

I think Berry is a marquee signing and Mitchell a solid signing. Mannion seems like a smart deal and Edward is definitely bold recruitment as we're gambling on a second tier Scottish Player.

The bold signing was Alfie May last season, and now we are rumored to be selling him. Of course we can argue they will make the team better (bloody hope so).
Feel like the statement doesn't align with the reality of who we've signed so far. "We've been solid in our recruitment so far" would've been closer.1 -

Just because we haven’t spent it by the end of June, doesn’t mean we wont. And yes, I also appreciate that it doesn’t mean that we will. However, we have spent fees on two players, reported to be between £300-500 combined depending on which posts to believe.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Honestly think there's a lot of undue panic. We are starting to resemble a well run football club and every single player Jones brings in will run through brick walls for us... This has not been the case in previous seasons. If May goes, he goes and he will be replaced. Sit back, relax and see how we look come august 10th... COYR36

I have liked your post, but since January we have sold(loaned and then lost) CBT, Dobson and looks like May. We have released Hector, Thomas etc etc and signed a promising left back from Scotland, a back up goalkeeper who stats wise doesn't really look any better than the two we already have, a centre half whose fans of the teams he has played for rate (remember Lloyd Jones was Cambridge's player of the season the season before we bought him) and a 32 year old central midfielder who started a handful of games last year in the Premier League.ButtleJR said:Honestly think there's a lot of undue panic. We resemble one because we've hired people in positions we were very short on, BUT we finished at our lowest ebb last year, DESPITE the work of Nathan Jones. Replacing Dobson and May's workrate and influence on this side is not as easy as some people are making it sound. DESPITE them we finished low down. WITHOUT them, we'd have been in League 2. That's how important Dobson, May AND (Nathan) Jones were to this side in the second half of the season. Nathan is staying the other two will be gone.
We are a long, long. long, long way away from a promotion challenging side. In terms of experience and proven ability of doing it in this division week in, week out.

We signed 5 permanent players in January and had a fairly solid end to the season I think people forget that so if we’re adding 9 to that plus those having more time to bed in, I don’t see how anyone can say we won’t improve. I’m looking forward to the season I think it’s gonna be a good’n .21

I'm optimistic we will do better this season but at the moment, we are a fair few good signings off being a top 6 contender. More realism, this time from me - if Alfie goes, forget promotion, unless Chuks and Leaburn stay fit.5
