Not a pretty game and first half was poor, but we were the better team and deserved to win. We badly needed a result and we got it, I can imagine there will be lots of negatives comments but we really weren’t as bad as some will make up. I’ve not seen anything to suggest this team will make the top 6 but if we can be in contention by January, with a few additions we might have a chance.
24 shots....must be a high for the season.

    Shoot and you'll score.

For once we tried that, and we won.

Let's keep that up shall we?

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks (Walsall is technically a free hit being the Cup) we can get injuries back

Crawley at the Valley next Tuesday could be another game like this evening, although Elliot has started to find some form with them now, so wont be as "easy" as what tonight looked I think - Lincoln is the next serious game, in a week and a half, and ideally we need Jones back in Defence at the very least.

Said it before the game, regarding Exeter and Huddersfield, but annoyingly we do now seem to be creating a lot more all of a sudden, compared to early games - Its still not pretty, its still not flowing... But our Strikers have to start taking the opportunities that are falling their way... Something else I said at the start of the season, was the fact that clean sheets are good, as the defence is taking the pressure off the attack... Now its the turn of the latter to start taking the pressure off the defence.

Still dont think we'll be overly good enough for the top six come the end of the season, but its such a tight league!!

Cant rule anything out for a long time yet, which is why I'm not interested in overall Play-Off positions, or relegation battles, until March, maybe even April. For now need to try and win as many games as possible and see where we are at that particular stage.

Karoy needs time out of the team, he can barely make a 5 yard ATM his confidence is in the toilet

We’ve had loads of them this season. Orient home. Wigan, Shrewsbury and now Burton away. Filed under unenjoyable to watch but 3 points’. The ones earlier in the season were softened with post summer break enthusiasm.

lets hope that one was a turning point. They were by far the weakest L1 team i can remember seeing yet we huffed, puffed and showed our usual lack of quality in the final third. Had we not won this the pressure on Jones and the team would have been huge.

Build on it with an improved performance and result v Crawley (Crawley!!!) and we might finally start getting something going
  • Watched from half time. First 10-15 was appalling from both sides - genuinely as poor as the Tier 7 game I watched at the weekend.

Then we took charge and dominated possession and territory without creating any clear cut chances bar the Ahadme header.

Sending off gave us even more momentum and thought Coventry’s goal was well taken.

Three points at least. Let’s see if we can build on it with a run a winnable fixtures coming up

    Never watched it...BBC stats.
  • Had to win tonight and we did. Follow up that against Crawley and we start looking back up the table instead of down.

Hopefully we can get enough points on the board in time for the January window or the return of Aneke.

Needed that. Improve the quality and decsion making in the final third and we may enjoy the performance. Think we lack confidence if I'm honest.

Drop Anderson and when Jan rolls in, sell Gillesphey and bring someone who can at least run.

That could so easily have been a bananas kin. The one great shot hard and low to AMB right needed a very firm hand to push out for a great save. At that point we were 0-0. Their sending off disnt really change things up much. We didn't really improve and out goal was merely just more pressure that eventually meant something went in. Don't let the stats fool anyone. This was turgid, low quality football, from two equally poor teams at the bottom of the form table.

What have Charlton done to again assemble a team of such poor quality players, that are seemingly coached to achieve as little as is possible out of their limited talents.

The Jones coaching strategy is truly awful and so anti-football that it isn't even fun to witness a win. Visually it's no more enjoyable that the losses.

Only success on the pitch will bring fans to The Valley. Anything else will have people leaving in their droves. The owners must be very concerned.

I went Saturday, awful day weather wise. Walking out was chatting to a Huddersfield fan who said they were shite, but it’s three points.

Tonight we were shite and it’s three points. They are on the board and we will take them.

On the game, thought the 433 did not work. Looked far better with TT TC on.

Final thought: Just a crap bunch of players, playing another crap bunch of players.

On one hand yes we won which is good. On the other I can't help but worry that Jones is going to somehow reach the conclusion that this justifies/confirms his approach and we have more of the same to come.

3 points are always good but for God's sake we're playing Burton, we have an extra man and we're STILL making hard work of it? That's just depressing.

Webster played well against us, and therefore we'll be signing him soon.

Christ on a bike,  24 shots I'd be dribbling on the bar...

  • In an otherwise excellent match report i have to take issue with the description of our goal as a rocket

    .
  • Grateful for the 3 points but that truly was hard to watch. Just one tactic. Hoof ball. Dismal.
  • It’s all been said so nothing for me to add

    Shocking!!
  • A wins a win but that was pretty dire at times

Not sure we would have nicked it 11 vs 11 so well done Taylor for getting their fella sent off, and well done Coventry for his persistence for the goal

And thats about it for the positives

Despite the 3 points, it was grim.

    Ok so.....

Karoy had some positive moments first half but his touch isn't good enough yet for the amount of regular football he is getting.

Hylton should simply not be getting anywhere near our squad.  He's an old, neanderthal who comes on as a pantomime villain.  Embarrassing.

TC isn't a finisher but stick him wide, put Taylor in the middle, get Leaburn and Godden closer together and Berry supporting and we will at least create things.

The diagonal long ball is guff.  Ahadme is poor.  His two headers close together simply were powderpuff.  He isn't ever going to be good enough for a side with promotion aspirations.

Our style of football is bad.

Burton have EIGHT points this season.  They are the worst side in this division by someway.

The upside on tonight?   I was home in 17 minutes.

Walsall Saturday.  Crawley Tuesday.  @Weegie Addick let's grab a drink before either game.  Will be there early Saturday to soak up the cup atmosphere.....

This for me is a major problem. If even wins are unenjoyable, then what's the point? People work hard all week, they need some enjoyment in their leisure time. There are plenty of alternative pastimes that are genuinely entertaining. The more we play this stifling grey football in our boring grey kits, the less reason there is for anyone to follow it. It is perhaps an odd sounding change of heart, because we have won. But at the weekend I wanted us to keep Jones because I don't think keep chopping and changing is helpful. Tonight I've just reached saturation point with watching this utter utter crap. I want Jones gone, and I want half of this team gone, and if I had the slightest clue who they were I'd probably want half of the board gone too. I'm sick of this shit. I want to be entertained.

    What's the point in anything?
  • Still can't believe only 5 points of playoffs after that rubbish run. Crazy league, another win next league game and keep the momentum over Christmas who knows...
