Following a couple of disappointing results I was fearing the worst against a top of the league Coventry.
But the fight we showed in the second half shows that this side is still up for the fight.
Rankin-Costello deserves to play far more than he has,and proves we do have other options.
I watched the Blackburn game earlier and they looked really poor
Play like we did today especially 2nd half and I'm confident we will get a result on Sunday.
Feeling far more positive than I was following the Pompey game.
    As always onwards and upwards.
Very good comments which i agree with. Still think we need a few new players. Maybe a couple of high quality loans [know NJ does not like loanees] as we just need that extra bit of quality to keep us in this division.

Big point, bigger performance. Players coming back and more home games than away in this half of season gives us reasons to hope. Add in Portsmouth goal difference getting a hit and a good day today.
  • That was the Kelman we thought we were signing.

Unfortunate to get a goal then go out injured, but between the finish at Oxford and the play today, he will be a big part in us staying up if he carries on like this.

Some lovely flicks to Leaburn and Berry, and the break between him and JRC at the end was the most attacking intent we've seen in open play for quite a while.

The team showed a lot of strength today to fight back from 1-0 down so early on in the game.

I was still feeling down from the Pompey game and was expecting a repeat of Southampton when the goal went in.

A lot of credit is due to the team for looking the better team against Coventry. Admittedly, part of this could have been down to how they were playing as they seemed all too happy to try and play for a 1-0 win, which was rather foolish on Lampard's part.

A good bonus point, but do not get carried away. If it was not for Kami ski they would have scored 4.goals.
This leaves us 4 pts away from 22nd place Norwich, who look to be on a runofform.

Coventry did us a favour by scoring so early. They sat back and we gradually upped our attacking game. Berry was dreadful, he losing possession led to their goal. But fortunately JRC was excellent throughout, strong in the tackle, good at passing and a gut busting 50 yard run to score our goal. Keep that lineup but replace Berry with Carey and we should win some games soon.

A great performance today and a valuable point. Still hoping we have 2/3 decent signings lined up but I’m confident we won’t go down this year anyway. With a bit of composure in the final 3rd we would have won that today but still happy with the point

Deserved a point but no more imo as the game really summed up our season.

Yet again playing a square peg in a round hole (TC) at wing back, undone us in minutes almost ruining the new year, as their player had an ocean of space to pick out Simms for their opener.  To our credit our workmanlike effort and pressing that is synonymous with what NJ has instilled since we got promoted kept us in it and we didn’t cave and were very much in the game up until we equalised.  We absolutely deserved the equalizer, but I felt with Costello going off the shape went a bit and we started to get stretched down the right in particular.

For me, we didn’t deserve to win because it’s always the wrong final ball, pass, shot, run etc and personally speaking, from a forward perspective, only Kelman has the intelligence and ability to operate effectively at this level.  Leaburn had an okay game, but you never feel confident he’s got the consistency to do something on the ball.

Campbell is not a wing back and I thought he had a poor game both defensively and offensively today, plus he’s not left footed.  I think he’s a decent player, but much more effective playing off the forward.  Debatable as to whether he’s good enough to deliver at this level consistently, but I think he’s certainly a key member of the team overall.

People will have their opinions on Berry starting over Carey and Knibbs etc, but I don’t mind Jones tinkering with that midfield three because it’s square pegs in square holes.  And as we have seen Rankin Costello has come in and shown he looked like he should’ve played since match day one based on the past two performances.

I thought it might be one of those frustrating results where our industry wasn’t going to pay off, but two of the best players on the pitch combined to score a decent goal in Kelman’s shot and JRC’s willingness to get forward.

After the subs came on, I thought we saw exactly why we’re hovering above the drop zone with that loose ball falling to Oloafe and you could just tell he wasn’t going to repeat what Kelman did and wasted it, and then the pass from Carey behind Knibbs when we really did have a good chance to win it.  It’s that sort of thing in the final third we really do need to address as otherwise it really will be squeaky bum time as to whether or not we have enough.

I think AFKA made a good post after the Pompey game that you could tell it was a team that was still motivated to play for the manager and compete, and we did well to put the manner of the defeat behind us.  But no disrespect to Coventry, they’re top of the league for a reason, they weren’t at it today so if we did have a bit more guile with our end product, then it may have been different.  However, currently, we don’t, and hopefully the Jan window will change that.  This is a big month to try and find that quality we need not to get sucked into trying to stay up on the final day etc, versus securing survival with a couple of weeks to spare

  • Kelman oozes class on the ball and is stronger/quicker than he looks, really feel we could build a very good team around him. Leaburn looking like a powerful championship striker. JRC was unreal second half, absolutely bizarre he’s been sat on the bench behind both doc and Anderson for so long.

lots and lots of positives and were excellent value. Well done boys

Much better than I'd hoped, especially at 3.03pm. A point against the league leaders can't be sniffed at but I think both teams  suffered from 3 games in 6 days, although we came out stronger in the 2nd half and deserved the equaliser. Thought we might have gone on to win it but we haven't got it where it counts.

Jones & Bell were great at the back and JRC is a breath of fresh air in midfield. If only we had some strikers who could threaten the opponents goal then we might be able to climb away from the bottom.

As it stands we gained a point on Oxford & Pompey and as long as we keep the pair of them below us then we'll be safe come May. Didn't help Pompey that they got walloped 5-0. Imo Norwich will pull away from the bottom & will finish mid table so no point worrying about them anymore. Blackburn could still be in the mix at the bottom & no reason why we cant get at least point there on Sunday  - watched some of their game today & they looked poor too.

I’m not very well with this bug that’s doing the rounds, so had to watch on Charlton TV (from Paris 😉) - but I have to say, we deserved to win today IMO - if only Kelman had better quality around him - he’s quality - but Rankin Costello, some player that lad - enjoyed that today - we have our Charlton back

Fair play again to Burke and Bell both of whom have just returned from injury, played 85mins on Monday and then another 97 minutes today

We had 105 passes in the final third, they had 52. We had 35 touches in their penalty area, they had 26.
That’s more like it. Hopefully we’ve seen the end of the previous approach. A very good point. Beat Blackburn next.

Concentrate for the first 5 mins and we'd have won that

I thought kelman was wasted next to leaburn who always seems to be on his heels and not ready / anticipating or in position for the flick ons. Could we put carey alongside kelman (or dare i say it, kanu) ?

Feels odd to be coming away a little disappointed to only get a point against a team that are almost certainly getting promoted.

My only negative is that if we’d played like that in either of the last two matches we’d be leaving this little run of matches with (at least) three points rather than one.

Well deserved point, the whole team played their socks off, seems it's finally got through, they are all playing for their and the clubs future
We still need strengthening but a point against the division leaders is a good start to 2026

He was really good today. I think maybe JRC or Kaminski for MoM but Leaburn is definitely a shout.
  • JRC, Kelman and Bell for me were our standout players today but a very good overall team performance. As said by others, my heart dropped on two minutes and feared the worst but fair play, they dug in and got a well deserved point.

One thing, the first freekick was not until the 14th minute, feels a very long time into a game that?

    Fair result.

For large parts, we played well but lacked composure in the penalty box or with the cross.

Not sure what their defender was doing for the goal...fucked up an easy header, then took a tumble when Kelman showed a bit of strength. Well done to JRC for showing the desire to make the run to finish it off.

Quite a few had good games. Leaburn put himself about pretty well. JRC mixed his game well, with neat touches, slide balls and driving runs. Kaminski kept it alive with the double save and brilliant low save.

Very disappointed with our lack of clinical edge. Same against Pompey

Should have won this. Too many balls go across this six yard box no one there. Too many opportunities to shoot and not taken and Leaburn dragging that shot wide on c82 minutes was very poor.

Apart from the two saves from Kelman in either half, their keeper made no saves.

    We need Godden back urgently.
