This clip of the Coventry goal clearly shows TC anticipating us getting forward then Berry loses the ball. He sprints to get back but ultimately to no avail.

Not trying to be a smartarse just genuinely interested who did you play for ? I Played a few games for Welling United in their sunday league days but wasn't good enough, I played a season For Villacourt Rovers, won a league champions medal & then discovered girls, no more footie until about 15 years laterTheHerminator said:
Having played at a decent standard for about 20 years, and having spent the last 5 or so years of those 20 coming off the bench as I got older, I promise you getting up to speed and really affecting a game as a sub is really tough, especially if you’re chasing a game or backs are against the wall.arthur said:
JRC was great today but there wasn't any signs from his sub appearances that a performance like that was likely.shirty5 said:Why Joe Rankin-Costello was not given a start until halfway through this season is a mystery to me. The bloke is a midfielder. He runs, he tackles, he beats people, he plays with his head up.Sometimes I despair Jones when you watch that performance from JRC and he has been sat on the bench all season. He must be shit in training.A good performance from all concerned this afternoon. No one had a bad game and a performance that is required between now and the end of the season.
Special mention for the back 3. Bar the goal were solid. Doubtful all 3 will stay fit but keep em crossed
We were going well for the first quarter of the season, Cov, Doc and Carey were all playing well. Dropping any of them for JRC at the time would've been mad!
It's taken a little while since a bad run to get him in the team but it's not an obvious error in Jones management that JRC hasn't played much up until now.
it could well be that JRC needed a decent run in the side to get fully up to speed and dust off the cob webs from being on the bench for so long, or equally needed the confidence of being picked to start.Time will tell, but as a central midfielder it’s really hard to come on and change the game really quickly.

Who picks the lucky person to take the challenge & how much notice is given ?
can anyone throw any light on this ?
why when the announcer says anywhere on the D - why don’t kickers put it as close as possible on the D to edge of the goalkeepers area? Baffling ?
What is highest prize it’s got to in the past?
If ever I’m picked my son said he will be out practising every night, as he said it’s a big prize now and it would pay his uni fees & more for one year…. on one kick of a ball.I was impressed by Xmas draw & prize money given £5K for winner & lots of £1K ….for a tenner a month seems VFM & good cause supporting the club

I liked Frank Lampard's comment when he said,
"They're a team in the image of their manager - a lot of passion - fight - direct, will fight to the end - and fight every moment".
Dunno why, but as he said it I thought of Michael Appleton when we played in his image, hands in pockets, collar up, disinterested, couldn't give a monkeys ...
God bless yer Nathan!16 -
Agreed …I joined this season for those reasonsBalladMan said:

to give something to the club but also as want to do more away fixtures this season
if any lifer has ever been picked for the cross bar challenge, how far in advance were you notified ?Does anyone know highest amount total has been?…the current £14K is a serious prize money now1 -
These are the only documented examples chatgpt can find of winners of the crossbar challenge
Confirmed winners and prizes
- 26 September 2024 — James Thompson hit the crossbar and won £7,000. He subsequently donated the prize money.
- 14 September 2022 — Lewis Wheeler won approximately £11,500 after hitting the crossbar (video posts indicate this prize amount).
- 24 November 2021 — Jonathan West (Charlton Upbeat representative) hit the crossbar and won £150 during a Women’s match Crossbar Challenge.
- 23 September 2021 — Paul Plumbly successfully struck the crossbar and won £8,500.
- 7 August 2017 — Stuart McRae hit the crossbar and won £10,500 (reported as the jackpot reaching five figures before being struck
14k is the highest it has been (according to the above) but has always been fairly high due to difficulty.

That's definitely missing one cos I remember someone doing it in a men's match and winning barely anything as someone had done it recently. There was also the one where it was awarded retroactively2

Sorry to go over old ground, but noticed Lampards comment about the pitch and then sort of stopped, any ideas what that was about? Always see it as a good sign when an opposing manager finds it difficult to give any credit, he managed to squeeze out, we were good at what we do which always feels like a back handed comment to me. I have enjoyed how we’ve got under other clubs skins at times though, shows we are doing some things right😂3

I thought he meant "on the pitch" as in our players make it difficult for opposition to play there normal game. Don't think it was about conditions of the actual pitch.Sword65pf said:Sorry to go over old ground, but noticed Lampards comment about the pitch and then sort of stopped, any ideas what that was about? Fair enough - so if you're sitting at home watching on a dodgy stick, listening to the radio or walking round bluewater with the wife, you're part of the reason why we can't sign the players to keep us up - FACT !!!NabySarr said:
Unfortunately you can’t just bankroll a club in the championship anymore, unless you’ve got parachute money you’ve got to make your own money.DOUCHER said:
Also worth remembering that Coventry were in a dire situation a few years ago on and off the pitch so they are now being bankrolled - why not us ?Bailey said:
Looking through Coventry's team, it could be argued that in Wright and Simms there is probably the best forward combination in the league, Ellis Simms fee is listed as undisclosed, Haji Wright cost 9 million euros, I am willing to bet it was close to ten million pounds between the two. Contrast that to our two forwards yesterday with Charlie Kelman's fee of 2.4 million and Miles Leaburn being home grown. Haji Wright is six years older than Miles at 28 and Simms is almost a year older than Kelman, with Simms reaching his 25th Birthday in three days time. Why does all this matter ? Well we are where we are, our players are developing, and we probably should be proud that our two forwards, who cost a quarter of what Coventry's strike force cost, gave them a real chasing yesterday.ShootersHillGuru said:
Yes we need a LWB and ideally an attacking midfielder but it’s a natural goal scorer we’re in desperate need of. Not in the mould of Godden or hopefully Kelman but a proper centre forward who holds things up, brings others into play and gets in and around the six yard box. I had hoped Miles was going to fulfill that role but thus far he’s looked unlikely to score more than a handful at Championship level. Hard work and potential gets you only so far. Finding that player will I realise be hard and probably expensive but if we want to secure our Championship status and build on that then the owners will have to spend some money and not on squad fillers and hopefuls.AddicksAddict said:
Which shows how poor we are generally in the final third.Callumcafc said:We had 105 passes in the final third, they had 52. We had 35 touches in their penalty area, they had 26.Coventry sold Gyokeres (and got the sell on fee for the Arsenal move) and Hamer for huge fees. Also sold Hyam to Wrexham this summer for good money. If we are to become a team with a big budget in this league we will have to do it mainly through buying and selling well. Would have to get revenues up also, Coventry regularly sell out their ground and are charging £45 for some games
We absolutely should be trying to do a Coventry, but they’ve been in the championship for 7 years which gives you an idea of how long that process can take2 -
I played mainly combined counties over 20 odd years, which culminated in a few games for Tooting and Mitcham back when they were around the Ishmian (spelling) as a triallist that never went anywhere.charltonbob said:

Carey gone off the boil, but may improve again now Kelman is back, but hasn’t been picking the best passes.
Berry not done enough
knibbs same as Berry
JRC only just turned up
Fullah being thrown into the deep end with no guarantee it will work. Not saying that at least one will not up they’re game but you asked why we might need more.
what doesn’t help us is the championship is no longer a division to be trying things out for too long a time, it’s become too competitive.0 -

I had just short of a month I think. I went out and practiced every day, but then again I had a bit of catching up to do, except I twice pulled injuries which set me back each time especially as the second one was the day before the big day. I still went ahead because I thought as I only had to kick it once and could take a bit of pain, then I might still manage to get close to the cross bar if not hit it. It didn’t quite work out that way because I felt the pain before I’d even connected with the ball, the weather was shit and I never managed the height. I did put the ball in the back of the net in front of the Covered End and figured that was worth more than the money anyway. Mind you, I can’t recall it being as much as £14k or anywhere near it…good luck to you and everyone else that gets the chance and my advice is, if you do get picked, don’t ask someone to take it for you, it’s a great experience if you are a Charlton fan, the Covered End is very supportive to those that take it, even those that miss, and you just never know…TootingRedArmy said:

Was the pitch really awful for this? Something came up last minute that meant I couldn't go, but it didn't look like an issue on TV. Lampard mentioned it in his post match and then second tier podcast said the same. Remember it being awful at times last season but has generally seemed fine this season0
