First and foremost just excited to have a left sided defender in the door. Granted no champ experience but has at least had senior EFL experience, not like he's fresh out of the academy.

Do agree with a few concerns about the NTT20 write up - ideally we would have a LWB who is primarily defensively focused and that would free up our preferred approach/formation in attack and perhaps even get Raptor back into the fold.

But if he can stay fit then there is every chance this is a very good signing.
Or this allows us to play Ramsay or Clarke on the right as a more defensive LWB, and frees Chambers to get forward.

What definitely wasn't working was any time we've played two defensive WBs.
Only works if Bell is fit as if not you have the same problem we have now with Gillesphey covering an attacking wing back

We need to find the balance again and tbh I’m not sure if Chambers does that unless he’s really good at LCB and then you can have him or Bell behind TC at wing back

I just hope we can get TC back up top now - has killed our forward play with him having to defend - my millwall line up (FA - what's the hold up with the preview?) - i reckon Bell will make a miraculous recovery and our rested (Jones, Coventry, Leaburn and Clarke first half - well done NJ) players from Tuesday will allow us to go: KAM, RAMSEY,JONES,BELL, CLARKE, CHAMBERS,COV/DOC/CAREY/TC/ LEABURN (Leaburn demanding a  start to make up for the fact his dad often contracted millwall flu before a game at the den)

I am excited by the signing; he has good reviews, big club pedigree, and will - hopefully - be keen to prove himself at this level. The risk is that he can't step up or that he aggravates an injury, but this is the pond we are fishing in with signings at the moment.

I hope it offers us a bit more tactical flexibility (Jones hinted at this to Cawley earlier in the week) and the option to play four at the back. Without another out and out left back as a back up you are running a huge risk starting any game that way.  An injury to Chambers would likely mean a right footer at LB, Macca at LB, or a change in formation - assuming Jerome Roussillon will never actually play for us. So hopefully we are able to get another in who can play two out of three LCB / LB / LWB.

    Makes ya laugh.

We are embarrassingly bad on the left hand side of the pitch, so much so we are playing a winger there, and a fridge freezer. Every team exploits our weakness down that side.

The answer so far, 20 days in, an untested, inexperienced Liverpool youth player, returning from injury, when we are in a relegation fight.

This is Roland Duchatelet levels of patchwork/papering over the cracks signing.

Welcome to the lad, but by the looks of things, he couldn't even stand out in League 1, so why have we loaned him. Reeks of desperation.
That is incredibly disrespectful to Gillesphey. I wonder if you were calling him that back in late May.
You can like a player for what he done in one league, and see how bad he does in another.

I am loyal to Charlton Athletic, and support Charlton Athletic, not an individual player.

He's too slow for this league. All there is to it.
Don’t get me wrong, I agree. He has been poor and he isn’t of the required standard for the Championship. Even so I stand by my comment that calling him a fridge freezer is incredibly disrespectful.
Sorry but I just don't see how it is.

Every single person calls him slow, it's such a harmless comparison.

If you play for Charlton and play well you'll get praise, if it goes the other way, you'll obviously get critiqued. That's all.

Appreciate what he did last season, and it will always be remembered, but, he should never have been a serious option in this league. Curbs was right.

It's called sensationalism, unfortunately a few posters on here have resorted to it a lot to try and make themselves stand out more I guess
Posted in this manner since I was first able to use the Internet.

Second time the word 'sensationalism' has been used in regards to one of my posts, and it's bollocks.

I just call things for how they are. People are just a bit sensitive to the harsh truth on here at times. This is one of the least ambitious signings made in the Championship so far, and it is in a priority position for us.

Meanwhile our relegation rivals are signing Championship standard players.
God I hope he’s good and makes you look like a prat after posts like this.
You hope that a player who signs for Charlton does well which in return could mean Charlton do well, which is exactly what I want...

I can't emphasise how much I won't care about being wrong on Charlton Life I will be if we do well from this signing.

I am a Charlton fan before everything, not hoping my predictions come true so I can look knowledgeable on here. That would be mental.

We've just signed Clarke and Dykes.
That's true, but Clarke is a swap for swap as we just lost Bree, and Dykes wasn't in a position we were desperate for signings.

Our issues are the defence and midfield, that is why I said "priority position". Our left side is costing us at the moment, it should have been dealt with as soon as it hit January 1st.

It's remarkably convenient that the way you see things just so happens to be "how things are" and the "harsh truth" when the rest of us plebs just have little things called opinions...
Taking it too literal though, which is a bit of a frequent thing on here. Lot's of nit picking on posts and trying to catch people out.

I don't mean what I say is final, that would be insanely arrogant.

What I mean when I say that, is I say what I think outloud, even if it could go against the popular view. I don't have to agree with everything on here and treat everything like it is positive.

We have signed someone. I reckon he will do shit as it has a feel about previous desperation signings we have made. If he doesn't, brilliant.

Highlighted part is just odd. Putting words in your own mouth there.

He takes a camera to all the games you know. Gives him special insight the rest of us fans who go to just watch the game don't get.
Just an odd comment and a chance to have a sly dig, and not at all really relevant.

Fair enough though, I'm sure you're happy

Dykes not a desperate need? With Leaburns injury record an experienced target man makes perfect sense to bring in.

It ideally would have been, but that’s not how it works in reality. If it did, loads of deals would go through on 1st January. It’s not entirely in the club’s control.

All went to shit when he went off

Bit suspect defensively but looked decent going forward. Unsurprisingly the shape looked better.

    Why was he subbed? Injured?
  • Thought he looked decent, a little rusty as you'd expect but played with confidence and got forward a bit.

Baffling substitution from Jones to take him off at HT and replace him with Fullah tbh, we've been crying out for a left back and looked a bit more balanced in that first half-term, but we changed it and promptly capitulated

was ok but whenever we have this ridiculous shape of wing backs neither helping out with defence nor midfield there's gaping holes behind him and in front of him.

Going fwd he seemed ok but again always too far behind play to really effect it. As an attacking LB, overlapping the left winger and with bell as the LCB i think he'll be good, but with Gillespy I'd seriously worry

Probably because it was his first senior minutes in 12 months. I didn’t expect him to play 90 minutes off the bat personally.

Reckon he gets 60 minutes next weekend.

Fine going forward but we were exposed down his side a lot in the first half. Gave Azeez far too much time and space for the cross that they got their first from.

Was he really that bad? Others have said we lost our shape second half after he went off.

He was decent, just the usual Millwall tax on people’s reactions today

What's bad is that out first choice is not match fit.

Decent?! Stood off Azeez for the first and then was caught napping at the far post and Azeez really should have scored, we'd have given our player absolute pelters if they mis-kicked it as bad as he did. The Coburn miss happened at the back stick too, though that was a breakaway so less his fault.

He was ok, but the lack of match fitness in a key position when our first choice defence is made of glass, is a joke
  • Azeez had his number but azeez is also one of the best wingers in the league
