One of my mates (well loose acquaintance really) is Dave Ryding - he's from a village up the road from me and I regularly ride with mates from his cycling club and he's tagged along with them a few times. He's retiring at the end of this season and has a final shot at an Olympic medal this week. Be amazing if he could get it - not sure anyone would think someone who started on a dry ski slope on the Nick o Pendle would ever have a chance of an Olympic medal!
Absolute legend is Dave Ryding - I don't think the average Brit understands the amount of effort and work this guy has put into skiing. I mean, he's just like a normal guy that loves his skiing, but actually is really good at it.

If he had been born in Switzerland or Austria, this guy would be a gold medal winner.

I always start off with enthusiasm for the Winter Olympics, but it all soons ebbs away into the borefest, and made up sports that it gradually becomes

Do they still do that one where they do nordic skiing and then shooting? Maybe they could add some high air snowboarding in the middle if it was considered too dull

Yeah the biathlon was on earlier and one of the Norwegian medalists admitted to having an affair in his post race press conference.
  • Blades of glory bloke is back on in the figure skating..
  • Not sure on his music choice but he is pretty good at this skating malarkey

When they really go for it then the snowboard half pipe is very impressive especially the speed and height they can reach.

    So many ridiculous events...

    Weirdest story so far.

Imagine dating a guy for 6 months, you find out he's already cheated on you, dump him, then he goes in front of millions of people to reveal it all and whinge about it.   I'd seriously consider a restraining order!

Apparently his teammate was trying to pay tribute to a team member who had died too and the cheater stole attention away from that.

Would be more exciting if the nordic ski-ers shot the snowboarders whilst they were in mid air, like clay pigeon shooting 😄
  • First run of the skeleton he wasn't as far ahead as he was hoping for, but leading by a whisker. Looking OK so far.

The Ukrainian guy with the "controversial" helmet has been banned by the IOC because apparently commemorating people killed in a war is making a political statement. Of course, he's now got far more publicity for it than he could have hoped for if they'd let him compete, so job done I guess.
  • Matt Weston nailed the second run and has a lead of 0.3 seconds at half way. Looking very optimistic for tomorrow but like lots of these sports one mistake and it's all over.

Typical woke nonsense. Can’t see a Strightathlon anywhere in the event schedule

    This is exciting to watch.

Charlotte Banks won her heat and is through to the QF.

Yeah - they all look extremely focused - which has often been a problem for them in the past. McDavid set the tone early on - probably the biggest hit I've ever seen him make 😂

The depth of talent is insane. Crosby centering a THIRD line of Marner and Stone is almost incomprehensible.

Yanks looked good too, unfortunately - a bit more disjointed, but they were snakebitten in that first period, yet pulled away in the second & third.

Can't see past Canada if they play like that all tournament. Be good to watch them destroy the Tkachuks in the final.

I'm sure there's a reason for skiing with no shirt om, but bloody hell.

Out in the quarter final, like last time. There does seem to be a theme developing of those GB athletes who dominate regular competition missing out here, while those who were expected to be also-rans are often exceeding expectations.

    Women’s Snowboard Cross

Been an event in 6 different Olympics and 6 different nations have won gold.

Where as the men’s event, just 3 men have won it twice each.

So in this specific case it seems she may have just been spectacularly unlucky with the draw - the two who qualified from here quarter final ended up gold and silver overall.

An affair in his press conference? Shame I missed that, but if it was that quick, it probably didn't mean anything.
