If you read the article, it makes some sense. What they need to make sure of is they run sufficient trains for demand - which seems to be the aim, but... The trouble is they need to keep making big profits from the commuters and government subsidies.

Goes beyond annoying but the fact that in the past five days five of my colleagues, two I consider good mates, being assaulted for just doing their jobs. Equally ‘annoying’ is the fact that after police investigations it will no doubt be deemed ‘not in the public interest’ to take further action. Boils my piss.

Sorry to hear this and feel for you and your colleagues. I work in forensic psychiatry, so a relatively similar field. Personally I feel that every incident of assault in such environments is very much in the public interest to prosecute as it creates a recorded history that can help in evaluating future risk.
I hope no one is too badly hurt or emotionally traumatised and that your team reoceives decent psychological support. It’s a horrible feeling going to work in an environment where you are under risk of serious assault. I really hope the situation settles down soon for you all.

Thank you @Gary Poole. No serious injuries have been received, bruised jaws, a couple of black eyes and scratches and bruises though that’s not really the point. We’re not there to be someone else’s punch bag nor should anyone have to enter a workplace concerned that today’s the day it’s their ‘turn’ to have someone’s frustration taken out on them. Sadly it’s something we know is a possibility from the moment we sign up due to who we’re employed to look after. It doesn’t hurt us any less when it does happen though. It’s especially galling when the cause is a minor thing. One of the incidents was the result of a prisoner simply being asked to move his TV from one place in his cell to another. There will be aftercare for the victims of these assaults and I’m sure governors will be making personal phone calls to check on them but I also know from years of experience that those phone calls will soon be replaced by ones asking them when they’ll be ready to return to work.
I’m hoping that this cluster of separate incidents is just a blip but fear that the effects of nearly a year of lockdown due to Covid is starting to take its toll on the minds of individuals who have reached the end of their patience and we’ll see more of these assaults in the coming weeks and months. However I also have faith that myself and my fellow officers will continue to deal with what’s thrown at us in a completely professional manner. It’s who we are and it’s what we do.
I hope the Police/CPS treat any accidents where prisoners slip over clumsily and get the mothers beaten out of them in a CCTV blackspot with equal lightness.
