If you don't like a stat-based system for picking your GN selections, try this one....................another vote for the Dude

If it's William Hartson, he was being touted around last year - by William Hill if I recall - and he picked out Seabass then.
I don't like to diss a fellow nut but it looked a bit bonkers - something to do with frequency of winners whose names started with particular letters of the alphabet.....................I prefer the sheep.

William Hartson - former British Chess champion and regular on Channel 4 Googlebox.
I understand the Grand National thing was just a bit of fun.

I see the reports say that after the Seabass flop last year, he's revised his formula to place more emphasis on a horse's form and, err, the owner's and trainer's names...................hmmmmm.

great horse and great jockey would love them to win but they won't unless its on the good side going wise which looks unlikely.

Only just tuned into this thread so I hope I've read the abridged highlights correctly. Going all out with Peanuts' model. £5.00 e/w Bet Vic 6 places NRNB on Teaforthree, Monbeg Dude, Chance Du Roy, Mountainous, Swing Bill and Shakalakaboomboom.

    Fingers crossed!

Interesting stat showing how much easier the Nat fences are now.............
    Fallers

    2008 -11
    2009 -12
    2010 -11
    2011 -11
    2012 -11
    2013 - 2

    2013 - 2

There were also 6 URs and 1 Refusal last time. Still in total well down and no doubt the fences are not as formidable.
Not much change seen in number of finishers however:

    2008 - 15
    2009 - 17
    2010 - 14
    2011 - 19
    2012 - 16

Strewth. Much appreciate the faith Exiled. Hope my model doesn't choose this year to go into meltdown.
TBH, I scale my bets because of the range of odds. My aim every year is to have 2 making the frame (hopefully one coming home first of course) but if the stakes are level a T43 win (alone) would only be a breakeven with 5 others on the slip, which would be a shame.
On the other hand, if Mountainous does the biz................................or if Bill does a Foinavon!.......................
    Best of luck.

Actually I'm getting a bit pessimistic about Bill getting a run. Can't recall when all top 40 at Monday's confirmations ended up being the final field.
By now, you'd normally be hearing of "doubtfuls" for declarations but there is a deafening silence. Ground looks like it will be in the middle ground to accommodate good (Balthazar King) and softer (Mountainous and Hawkes Point) ground preferences.
Maybe reliant on a late niggle for one of them.
If he doesn't get in at today's decs, he's got until 9am tomorrow.

Going stick reading on the GN course last evening was 6.3. Last year's reading on the Saturday for the GN was 6.0 so ground slightly better now than then. Suggests more Good than Good-to-Soft.
If, this afternoon, the Foxhunters clock 5m30s or thereabouts that would suggest Good ground or around 5m45s would suggest GS. If the official description of GS(Gd places) is right, the winner should be finishing in about 5m40s.

    Cheers PBS,
Most of my friends have an interest in my book, tbh, and while I fully expect Mrs Molloy to summon the men in white coats one of these days, her annual Jewels of the Med cruise funded by Paddy and Victor has sufficed to date. Mind you, these Caribbean Islands brochures that appeared on the kitchen table yesterday were a nasty shock.

Suggest backing Alvarado "place only" then ;-)
