Haven't read all the comments on this thread, so forgive me if this has been said. IF he signs, then who the hell has identified him as a player we want or need? Riga......doubt it? RD, unlikely, as he knows nothing about football. Powell and Dyer.......no chance!. I doubt Bob Peeters knows anything about O'Grady either, and would he want him? So this prospective signing would appear to be most strange.

    Unless.......
Unless he is an example of a signing discovered from stats and videos by the new breed of scouts Alex Dyer referred to.

Maybe Richard Murray had something to do with it too. Perhaps one of the deals he said he was working on.

Or maybe Chapple or more likely Matthew? Maybe Peeters has been watching Charlton from afar for several months now?

Phil Chapple is still employed by the club as chief scout i presume ?. If so , i would think he would have had some input into this.

What do the Comms team actually do ? I wish they would get a bleedin' grip. Whilst it can be difficult to control information these days. It would be nice if they comms team actually got out ahead of something for a change.

For the record Chris O'Grady would be a good addition to the current team.

Sounds like you're the one who needs to get a grip!
Member of the comms team ?

Wouldn't Peeters want to identify his own players. Would he really be happy in taking a player suggested by Murray, Matthew, Chapple. Can't really buy into the idea of Peeters watching Charlton from afar for several months.

Lets hope if COG does sign that he can bring the best out of Simon Church.
  • I'll believe it when he signs.

Doesn't sound like a RD signing in the slightest... I hope to eat my words soon so please stuff this post down my throat when I'm proven wrong.

However I too expect this to be feeble RD sleight of hand to try and appease the plebs (us).

I am hoping that if we are looking at this sort of proven Championship player that it means that RD has taken on board that you need Championship quality players and not just SL cast offs and that maybe he has directed his trusted scouts to look for these players.

If the above is the case I think it is a step in the right direction.

Nice to see Charlton actually spending some money and starting to get the long term replacements in early in the close season. double bonus for nicking him rom under Millwall's noses.

Not many Championship clubs have actually bought any players yet.

Let's hope that COG is the first of several more.

    We haven't spent anything yet.
My mistake - I'll wait for confirmation on the OS.

Or perhaps we could ask your 'reliable source' TRR and he can confirm what part of Flanders COG comes from and whether we actually paid in Euros for him?
My reliable source? Was I wrong then? Is Alex Dyer lying as well?

I hope he does turn the deal down if we go in for him. I'm really surprised that everyone seems to be foaming at the mouth about this guy, maybe it's more to do with us actually spending some money so people finding that more exciting then who the actual player is. Not trying to dig the player out he did have a very good season for Barnsley last season, but that has been pretty much it in his 11 year career, oh sorry he done ok at Rochdale on loan but once he signed for them his goal scoring was average at best. These type of journeyman players have one good season once every 4 or 5 years. If we sign him he will be a handful for defenders and will score 7-8 goals tops. Like I said in a previous post if his a 3rd of 4th striker then fine but first choice I reckon we will be bang in trouble.

Someone somewhere probably once said the same thing about Rikki Lambert
Know where your coming from but Lambert started banging them in for Rochdale when he was about 23/24 and has been consistent ever since. Also he has only played for a few clubs.

I know I seem really harsh on him but too many times teams get too excited about a player who has one decent season in their career and get their fingers burned when they pay over the odds.

And Grant Holt, who proceeded to get Norwich in the PL. Think he would be a decent signing and better than we've got.

Pretty good signing, if it happens.

He's 28, so in his prime, and he scored 15 goals for a struggling Championship team last season.

He would definitely be an upgrade on what we have IMO.

We need a few strikers this summer and I'd be happy if he was one.

"Excess of 500k" seems a bit steep, but if he comes in and score goals then i'll be happy.

Makes sense the fact all the Barnsley fans thought it was way too low , hope we get him now and obviously a few more of he's calibre .

FFS why are we signing a striker when we've got no defenders or goalkeeper, we've got our priorities all wrong.

if we're spending this kind of money on every player we're bringing in (we need about 11-12 to replace who's going) then i'll be quietly impressed with the summer's activities.
