Forgot about that incident with Sterling - It happened in 2019, and he last played for England in 2020, playing three times that year.

There were quite a few Liverpool fans moaning about him back then, glad that Klopp stuck by him.
Barring further injury I think Southgate would be mad to exclude Gomez. He's extremely versatile across the back line and I wouldn't mind betting he'd do well as a defensive midfielder.

Unfortunately Southgate can often be mad in his pickings. Expect to see Guehi in the squad rather than the inform Konsa and Gomez

Poor treatment but Joe cracks on with it. Many players would run for headlines about it's affect on their mental health. Partly why I'm very very bored of the whole narrative of him not having scored a goal in xxx games. Things like that start light heartedly but it has the potential to become a meme and unnecessary.
Great to see he has got his confidence back and is back to his best. He did have a spell of a few torrid games early last season but this season has been excellent. So much so it is probably questionable where his best position actually is now.

I believe Sterling asked not to be included for a period so that he could regain full fitness. Sounds like he wants back in now though.

Joe just gets on with his job, doesn't moan about it and just plays when and where asked to play. The consummate professional. Carragher is just jealous someone who isn't a scouser is so popular up there. And has won more trophies than he ever did / will
He's also suffered from never being able to hold down a place in what is his best position by virtue of the injuries he's suffered and subsequent loss of confidence.
Ironically, it is the versatility and ability to play anywhere across the back four you refer to that makes him so valuable to Liverpool, in the same way as it was with Millner, but he ends up being perceived by some as the "master of none". That shouldn't be the case but there's no way I would say that he's a better left back than a fit and firing Robertson, for example. He does deserve the opportunity to become VVD's partner but that isn't going to happen all the time Konate is doing the job and Joe is needed to fill in where necessary. Equally, there have been occasions recently where TAA has been pushed into midfield and Joe is the ideal player to slot in at RB whereas Konate couldn't do that job.
Joe has now added CDM to his list of positions. That versatility and his form has had Klopp calling for him to be called up by England:

With squads for the European Championship finals this summer reduced to 23 names, having been 26-strong for the past two tournaments, versatility is a boon and Gomez’s knack of slipping seamlessly from position to position without a dip in standard makes him an attractive proposition.
This season, he has made 17 appearances at right back, 14 at left back, four at centre half and now two starts in the centre of midfield.
Klopp said last week that Gomez had “saved our lives 20 times” this season given the number of injuries that have left his squad depleted. That Klopp saw the potential in Gomez — the only player whose arrival at Anfield, in summer 2015, pre-dates that of his manager — to come into midfield speaks volumes of his natural talent.
“It’s just one of these stories. What a wonderful player he is and I am so happy he can show that again.”

Joe's been excellent every time I've seen him this season. He's been one of the first name in the match day squad and will be for whoever comes in. Where can Liverpool get someone who can slot easily into four different positions - against Forest he played in three of them! Gone are the days when players are seen, at the top level, as "benchwarmers". There are too many games to be played for the top clubs and a player like Joe is worth his weight in gold.
It is that versatility that will mean that we can take one less defenders to the Euros. I don't think England have anyone who can play all positions across the back four do we? In fact, how many have we ever had? Some like Walker or Shaw have played play at FB and at CB but I can't think of many who have played in both FB positions and at CB. The issue is usually that the traditional CB doesn't have the athleticism/speed to play at FB and the FB doesn't have the physical presence to play at CB. Joe is the footballing equivalent of Daley Thompson!
It's always been about confidence with Joe. There have been occasions when that's been severely lacking mainly due, one suspects, to his numerous injuries. He's destined to play 50 games this season and possibly the most of any Liverpool player. That will have done him the world of good.

Totally cobblers that he's not good enough. He might not be in the first choice team when everybody is fit but is an extremely valuable member of their squad. A side fighting for trophies on 4 fronts needs a big squad with injuries and rotation. And this isn;t any side, Liverpool have already won 1 trophy, in the last 8 of the other 2 cups and have only lost twice in the league this season. Only Gakpo has appeared in more games this season!
If Gomez was sold or an offer came in, I think he will only go down a notch, to Villa, or Newcastle, maybe Tottenham or Chelsea. That would mean a fee of which we are due (I think) 25%. Correct me if I'm wrong. So what would a Gomez transfer fee be if he were to move to one of those clubs? I say north of 30 million pounds.

I would say about £50m-£60m. But he won't move. He's settled, contributing in a major way and made himself somewhat unique at club level. If he gets his chance for England then I'm sure that he will cement a place in the Euro squad. Klopp and Liverpool weren't stupid when they extended his contract and it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't give him another one once the new Manager is in situ.
