Michael Vaughan has stated that Bell-Drummond should open with Cook in the 2017 Ashes.
Big big shout from Vaughan. He said that he only averages thirty but it is not always about numbers.

D B-D needs to improve two aspects of his game. The first is concentration because that is the main reason he gets out so often in the 20s and 30s and the other is his ability to play quality spin. The former is a mental thing but the other he is unlikely to succeed at playing in Division 2 of the CC.

I tend to agree. I was surprised by Vaughan's comments to be honest. Very talented though, hope he does become the batsman that his potential indicates.

On another note. You always worry that you are going to lose players to the top flight. You cannot blame them for wanting to be tested by the best. In fact Hussein said that you should only be considered for the test team if you are playing in Div one.
Has promotion and relegation really worked? I am not sure it has. There are so many players with potential in Div2 that could be stuck in a rut for a long while. Not sure that the ECCB is seeing the benefit as much as they thought they would.

    Lancs 104-5 at lunch!

Two apiece for the old firm of Stevens & Coles one for the articled clerk Hunn.

When I was there on Tuesday I was surprised to see quite so many Lancs supporters. If I had travelled so far I would expect the side to be picked with a view to winning the Championship and to perform accordingly.

All they have succeeded in doing is to potentially give the opportunity to one or two of our players to earn an extended contract!

    0-1 already

    Brown lbw b Coles 0
  • And Coles has taken a wicket with the second ball of the innings.
  • 47-2 at close just 8 wkts. tomorrow.
  • It would be extraordinary if Kent went on to actually win this game tomorrow wouldn't it?
  • 117-3. Wickets to Coles, Stevens and Tredwell including those of Alviro Petersen and Ashwell Prince.

More like a miracle, Bryan !

Yes sorry everyone. Fat fingers to go with the rest of the body!
  • 175-4 at tea and 136 behind

Treders, Haggett and Denly have combined figures of 36-17-39-2 with Croft and Davies unbeaten on 48 in total from 236 balls.

And some people the four day game is dead!

I think I am correct in saying that a draw would ensure promotion for Lancashire hence the determined rearguard action.
  • Match drawn.
  • Told you we'd need a miracle !
  • does anyone remember Kent beating Warwickshire at lords in, I think, a gillete cup final either late 60's or early 70's. could possibly be a benson & hedges final? I know I went but can't find any links?
  • Thanks to Kent for securing a draw with Lancashire to help Surrey get to the top of the table! ! :)

Cant find any record of Kent playing Warwickshire in a one day final around that time. The Benson & Hedges didn't start until 1972. Kent won B&H finals against Worcestershire a couple of times in 1973 and 1976. Kent were an excellent one day side then and also won two finals of the Gillette Cup at Lord's in 1967 (Somerset) and 1974 (Lancashire).
