If you had £60m, how much of it would you blow on Charlton? All of it or just some of it?
If I had £60m, I probably wouldn't do much more than buy a season ticket for me and a few good people. Why? Because I've seen the geezers at Fulham/QPR/Blackburn spend £100s of millions and get vey little for their investment. I wouldn't run the risk of doing the lot in two seasons.
If I won the Euromillions next weekend I would try and buy Charlton with some of that money (surely could get us for less than £60m?) however as I admittedly know nothing about running a football club, and I know that the business model is ridiculously flawed I would have to have an exit strategy in place after a year. I know that if any Charlton fan were to buy the club now from Roland you would probably be loved forever by the fans and that wouldn't be forgotten, and what I would also do is immediately agree compensation packages with Huddersfield for Chris Powell and Alex Dyer, as well as with Fulham for Alan Curbishley to come in as Director of Football, give them whatever budget I could and say sign whoever you like.
Much of the criticism of Fraeye isn't levelled at him as a coach, he is who he is and is as good as he is. If a CEO and owner wanted to get their team further up the table surely they'd parachute in an interim coach who was better than the coach they just got rid of. If that weren't possible in the short term they would keep their current coach and silently to find a replacement. It will be interesting and telling to see their next move.

Arrived back home around 3.30pm after a looong journey down the A1 etc and have been trying to plough through this thread but sadly, gave up half way as I was in danger of slitting my wrists.
What a waste of a couple of days, circa £200( petrol/overnighter at Travelodge/ mucho wine to deaden the pain etc) Don't think I've EVER felt like this after an away day. No passion, no commitment, no finesse, no hope. For the very first time since this nightmare began, I'm seriously considering boycotting a home game in the near future. Never thought in a month of Sundays that I'd consider going that far.
I'm afraid that I have no confidence in the meeting scheduled for 10th November. Nothing will be achieved except to alienate us, the faithful from our owner & his CEO even further. It is 100% clear to me now that they will never change their "gameplan" and that nothing they do has ANY connection to the Beautiful Game. For the first time, I'm starting to believe that the petition to the FA isn't such a bad idea after all....Fit & proper ? You're having a laugh !

Woke up this morning still feeling sick to the pit of my stomach and wishing I had £60 million. Charlton Athletic is the plaything of Mr Duchatelet and he hasn't got a clue how to run us, even to the point of cost cutting because our relegation will wipe out any current savings made. I can see with Euell involved that Lookman travelled with the team. I would like to think there were footballing reasons for that, but I fear it is the nurturing of a potential big money sale for Roland somewhere down the line.

The problem is not the system, although playing one short in midfield as against Preston & Brentford doesn't help, it's the lack of quality & depth in the squad. Choose whatever system you like, but it's still the same players.

If I was in Fraeye position I would of set out the team pretty similar in formation and shape. Get men behind the ball keep things tight and be hard to breakdown. At the end of the day Boro are better then us and quality will always prevail. As a coach you can only work with the players you've got, set them up in the best way you can and give tactics that they may or may not keep to. Some people on here might say we should of gone for it we lost 3-0 anyway. It doesn't work like that, you have to have a game plan. We didn't loose yesterday because of Fraeye we lost because this team isn't good enough. Players in the past we've relied on can no longer cut it or just aren't performing. Boro away is a tough game no matter who's manager. MK Dons is another story. Managers do prioritise and out of the two Tuesday is winnable. It's now down to the gaffer to get the players organised, and up for it.

That's the point i was making to you last week, if a team play rubbish,CAFC say, you can play any permutation of 11 players and if the other team even play average at the moment we are doomed. We looked like we were playing 4-5-1 and still get out passed. Any decent movement in the second half of a match by the opposition and we can't compete.
MK is the real test, don't think anybody expected any points today.
Anything but a win against MK and the pitchforks will be out. Again.

The magnitude of this post must not go unnoticed in amongst the many, many other disgruntled, upset and angry comments written in the last few weeks. Not because FF's comments are anymore important than anyone else's, we all have an equal stake in this club. But for FF to compile such a damning indictment on the current state of affairs and what we are seeing in the pitch is alarming. One of the regular posters on here, one who like many others regulars, goes home and away. However one now that has just mentioned she would coinsider boycotting the next home game and who I believe is in the most part a positive and optimistic supporter who tries to see the best and remain loyal to the team.
Again, I know many fans, loyal fans have already taken this action, but this post just hit home how bad it really is, for me anyway.
Unless we see a complete change of direction from RD, ie a reversal of his approach to date, then we will fail. The problem is how do you tell/demonstrate/communicate with someone this is the case? There are many logical arguments
- we are in exactly the same league position as we were when they took over. However, we don't have the games in hand, weren't on the shocking run we are now, and I don't believe the morale was anywhere near as bad. We have also got there via 5 managers and countless poor players who just aren't up to standard
- RD doesn't seem to know the rigours of the league well enough, certainly what type of manager may be the right person to get us out of, or even compete at a decent standard
- You may argue that the managers may have been good enough but were not given the right tools to do the job. Either way it is again a reason he's getting it wrong
- Their communication and interaction with the fans, and many fans' opinions right now is one of distrust. Countless examples documented in their 2 year tenure of poor communication, silly initiatives and muck ups
Yes they can spout the financial mess rhetoric the club were in prior to their takeover, yes we are grateful they picked up the bill when no else did, but ultimately, their product (if you want to look at us like a business), is the end product on the pitch. This has been woeful. If RD only cares about new fans and not the old ones (which is a suicidal way of looking at things IMO), then I can guarantee the only way he will acquire new fans is if the club are winning or at least look like they might win. At the moment, we are playing some of the worst football I have ever witnessed. Sofas, pies and cheerleaders will not get new fans to stadium. Where the hell did he think the extra 10,000 odd fans came from in our premiership days???? Why do you think we had a sudden influx on our say core 15,000 support (dread to think what it is now). They came because there was a team winning and competing at the highest level.
If you put in place a structure and team not even capable of competing at League 2 level (given how bad we look), then you reap everything that comes with that.
Can't remember what thread it was on or who put it up, but a chap put up a photo of his boy in the Di Canio shirt who is now 12 and can't/won't go to games because it is so bad. You lose them, you lose the future. Some of us are so ingrained in it we're not done yet, but RD his starting to lose 'the regulars' the ones he deems don't need much attention.
I can't see it changing unfortunately so we need him OUT sooner rather than later, and sorry to say it, I believe the only way that can happen is by him presiding over a continuation of the last 10 games or so. Of course I don't want us to lose and for many this might be flawed logic, but I truly believe the only hope we have of convincing him to go would be for him to preside over a shitfest. He cannot hide then. At the moment he is cluelessly thinking his way will work. It will be painful and no it's not good to go down but unless we can flush him out with evidence he hasn't a pissing clue how to run a successful football team, I fear he's happy to carry on regardless.

- we are in exactly the same league position as we were when they took over. However, we don't have the games in hand, weren't on the shocking run we are now, and I don't believe the morale was anywhere near as bad. We have also got there via 5 managers and countless poor players who just aren't up to standard
- RD doesn't seem to know the rigours of the league well enough, certainly what type of manager may be the right person to get us out of, or even compete at a decent standard
- You may argue that the managers may have been good enough but were not given the right tools to do the job. Either way it is again a reason he's getting it wrong
- Their communication and interaction with the fans, and many fans' opinions right now is one of distrust. Countless examples documented in their 2 year tenure of poor communication, silly initiatives and muck ups
Yes they can spout the financial mess rhetoric the club were in prior to their takeover, yes we are grateful they picked up the bill when no else did, but ultimately, their product (if you want to look at us like a business), is the end product on the pitch. This has been woeful. If RD only cares about new fans and not the old ones (which is a suicidal way of looking at things IMO), then I can guarantee the only way he will acquire new fans is if the club are winning or at least look like they might win. At the moment, we are playing some of the worst football I have ever witnessed. Sofas, pies and cheerleaders will not get new fans to stadium. Where the hell did he think the extra 10,000 odd fans came from in our premiership days???? Why do you think we had a sudden influx on our say core 15,000 support (dread to think what it is now). They came because there was a team winning and competing at the highest level.
If you put in place a structure and team not even capable of competing at League 2 level (given how bad we look), then you reap everything that comes with that.
Can't remember what thread it was on or who put it up, but a chap put up a photo of his boy in the Di Canio shirt who is now 12 and can't/won't go to games because it is so bad. You lose them, you lose the future. Some of us are so ingrained in it we're not done yet, but RD his starting to lose 'the regulars' the ones he deems don't need much attention.
I can't see it changing unfortunately so we need him OUT sooner rather than later, and sorry to say it, I believe the only way that can happen is by him presiding over a continuation of the last 10 games or so. Of course I don't want us to lose and for many this might be flawed logic, but I truly believe the only hope we have of convincing him to go would be for him to preside over a shitfest. He cannot hide then. At the moment he is cluelessly thinking his way will work. It will be painful and no it's not good to go down but unless we can flush him out with evidence he hasn't a pissing clue how to run a successful football team, I fear he's happy to carry on regardless.
