I wouldn't mind Pardew as England manager, Palace have looked better since he took over, maybe if he left they could return to type. Also England managers don't have very long tenure, (maybe even less after today), so we could probably have two or three in this world cup qualifying campaign.
There are some unscrupulous bastards in the press out there conning people into extracting information by being nice and friendly and Big Sam fell for it it seems.

Well quite but to actually be taken in by them after everything that has happened before is either ridiculously stupid, extremely naive, unbelievable arrogance or a bit of all of them. Either way he has to go imo. There aren't really any decent options to replace him with but that isn't a reason to not do it either.

good point.
if your local MP was advising developers how to get around planning/building regulations for personal gain, would you want them kept in office if it was going to be a bit of a pain replacing them with the next best of a bad bunch?
1983: He came close to joining Charlton Athletic on a free transfer in March 1983, but Charlton boss Lennie Lawrence did not complete the move before the end of the transfer deadline.
The above is taken from his Wikipedia page. Never knew that.

There was no transfer deadline day back then surely?

before the transfer window was introduced there was a deadline to stop clubs buying players at the end of the season to push for the title/safety/promotion, not sure when that was introduced though.
I was actually quite pleased Big Sam got the job based on the fact I thought he has the right passion for the job and felt is record at club level warranted more respect than it sometimes got. I wanted him to go in there and bang some heads together. I was bit annoyed about his reaction to Rooney after the Slovakia game, ie 'he can play anywhere', although I accept he probably got caught up in the last minute win, first time he's managed his country etc.
It would be a shame if he had to go based on this act of stupidity. Another set back for England, when we're pretty much our nadir in terms of the national team as it stands.
The press are scum mate but he's only got himself to blame.
No doubting that but its the same old shit year after year when it comes to England. Then they'll be the first to stick the knife in when we are shit under an even worse manager.

Agree but he really should have thought about it. How many others have been caught out by the gutter press by fake sheikhs and the like. As England manager, he should have seen it coming.

before you became a father obviously mate

I can't see how he's going to keep his job re: accepting the £400k deal if true

1. Get a championship manager, pay him a lot less. Use the stupidly excessive money cut/saved on the managers wage...on something more worthwhile.
2. No player is allowed to play for England if they are earning more then £40,000PW
3. He's a nob that's achieved nothing in football management, but get shearer in on the coaching side of things.
Bring the football back down to earth.
Apparent world class England players of recent years have achieve nothing of any magnitude.
It doesn't work for us.
English players are mostly non glamorous footballers, so why are we pretending that they are?
It's because (not always there fault) they don't live on planet earth....because a lot of things they don't deserve is handed to them.
Money has ruined the national football team, on every corner.
Make it so that the fans can once again relate to the players...at least in some way.
The team needs men. Not boys. That includes the manager and everyone involved.
Iceland beat England very convincingly and too easily.
Remember that. Then look at the points I make.
Would you like the England job?
allardyce not to be in charge malta 2/5
allardyce to be manager 7/4
next manager
steve bruce 11/4
pardew 6/1
howe 8/1
southgate 9/1
klinsman 12/1
