Nearly didn’t go. So glad I did. Best performance in absolutely ages. No one had a bad game. Plymouth were decent. We gave them a good hiding that, with a few better choices now and again, could have been a lot heavier. Never ever thought I’d see the day where I’d give standing ovations to Nicky Ajose and Ben Reeves!! Both deserved them. Just shows you what happens when you set up to play to the strengths of the players you have. And also just shows what we could and should have achieved this season. If we don’t make the playoffs it will be a crime.
Plymouth fans excellent. So much more enjoyable when there is an atmosphere. Ref a complete clown. Absolutely no idea.
Adams rearranging our cones as he came out for the second half. What a prick.
I enjoyed that. Takeover on Monday and the jobs a good un.
Not a weak link anywhere on the pitch today. Very very impressed with Dijksteel, that's the first time I've seen him play a full game. Also great support from Plymouth today.
Having heard what Bowyer said this week, I was reasonably optimistic, which is unusual for me. And even more unusually I wasn't disappointed. Get in! Most enjoyable game in ages.
Must be something about ex Charlton players 1st game in charge against Plymouth - Powell’s was a 2-0 win against Plymouth as well.
Nice to see a Charlton team play a decent bit of football and put some commitment in. Bowyer was right, he promised 100% effort from the players, and they delivered his promise.
Reeves looked a different player. The change in formation (the change that everybody else apart from the previous manager knew needed to happen) worked a treat. JFC was back on it again as well, which is key for us.
Ajose put in a real shift, was unlucky with 2 good attempts on goal. He linked up well and put in a real “team” performance.
Watched the Sky Sports highlights, we looked unplayable.
That second goal was outstanding football. We appeared to be playing with a swagger and confidence which is rare at this level. Overall, I loved extra second of those highlights. Gutted I missed this match.

Just did the same, looks like another day we could've scored 4 or 5 against the form team in the league. Very nice.
I suppose for a Charlton footballer you needed a Phd in astrophysics to understand Robinson's instructions, but today it was back to a good old grade 'D' in woodwork was all they needed to worry about.
It was a proper competitive game of comprehensible football we saw out there today.
Pearce the battling, hand clapping, arm waving, instruction giving, gesticulating Captain in a right old physical battle with their centre forward. Ajose played in an effective role since he first joined us, the midfield of Aribo, Reeves, JFC and Fosu who knew they had to win the ball and keep it, to earn the right to play and show their considerable skills, Zyro who knew his job was to lead the line and try to nick a goal, Bauer immense and so 'present' although modified by his early booking, Page who's early spectacular goal gave him the belief to keep going and get something from the game, and of course Djiksteel who had to slot in to right back in his second best position, and who probably edged man of the match in a team performance where everybody looked pretty damn good. Amos made a couple of decent decisions, and got told off by the ref for telling the ball boy to slow down...good bit of teamwork that.
That was different.
The turn out of Argyle support was very impressive, but the early goal seemed to suck the life out of them, we were kicking the wrong way, and Plymouth fans influenced a few ref's decisions (why wasn't their keeper booked for handball?), but apart from one shot that grazed the outside of the post, and a close free kick, that's all the Pilgrims had today. We delivered close shaves, and forced their keeper into a number of decent saves from Ajose and Reeves, and of course there were the two goals.
For Page the relationship of his body to the ball sort of gave him no choice but to lamp it, and fortune favours the brave...well it did today. One of our frequent dangerous attacks led to the second goal taken well by Zyro who put a nice little edge to his header.
We were the better team today, outbattled a decent side, and were on top. Plymouth were by no means dire, and as i said they were supported in numbers if not vocally, and those fans face a long journey home having to accept a correct result, no fluke whatsoever. There were a lot of first time touristy fans in the ground today and they will have enjoyed Charlton's performance.
Amazing to think that we are still welded into the Duchatelet era as I type, yet today there was a much more authentic vibe around the place, and part of that reminds me that if we head in the right direction the club is far from finished.
I don't know if was a massive stroke of good fortune for him today, but Lee Boyer deserves a huge amount of credit this evening, and Jacko too, and I am looking forward to catching up with his post match.
Feeling rather cheerful for the first time in ages.
What to add to the above? Just that everybody seemed to know what their job was and did it, every minute. Including Naby Sarr when he came on. And so many 50:50s won. Plymouth bullied out of it at times, and that's something I never expected to write this season.
If all the rumours are true the new Aussie owners have a huge call to make, even before they officially take over. Why would you bring in Kewell now, after that?
Because Crawley scored three at home today...............Bowyer out!!!
Crawley no win in 5. Do we really want Kuell just cos he is an Aussie?
A fantastic game, felt like a performance of charlton team managed by SCP except today was played with serious flair and freedom! Never really felt threatened by a team who are in serious form (apart from when they hit the post early doors)! Wouldn’t mind signing there number 10 Carey, thought he was a serious player!
Couldn’t pick out a single player as MOM but two comments I must make:
1) Our full backs were absolutely outstanding especially Dijksteel... he has got some future ahead of him!
2) I honestly thought that after the effort the boys put in in the first half, they would flag around the 70 minute mark....how wrong was I! Every player today looked like they could have gone the full 90 including Reeves who in recent weeks/months has typically tired towards the end when starting! To add to that, today he was 100 times more effective than any other game I have seen him play in a Charlton shirt!
Fair play to Bowyer and Jackson! Felt like the Charlton we all know and love today!
Also want to add special mention to Taylor Maloney, didnt get on the ball in his very brief cameo yet for such a slight build... Blimey was he good challenging in the air
I wasn't going to Go today. But Robinson going I changed my mind and that is pretty much the best I have seen us play this season. Absolutely No way would Robinson have played two up front so well done to Bowyer for changing things. It's early days yet but I would love to see Bowyer given a run of games to see how he goes. The one thing today's performance showed me is that this group of players have totally underperformed under Robinson and with a better coach we should be in a far better position than we are. Well done Lee Bowyer let's hope you are given more time to see how it goes.
Also want to add special mention to Taylor Maloney, didnt get on the ball in his very brief cameo yet for such a slight build... Blimey was he good challenging in the air
I know one or two others like me who watch the U23's will have loved seeing Taylor make his league debut.

He certainly looked more comfortable than Lapslie (Unfortunately a wrong intro for him) - Watching them on a regular basis who would you say is ahead in their development?
Dijksteel is a bit raw. He got caught out of position a few times (and was woefully unprotected on at least one occasion) but his recovery was very impressive, getting back to tackle someone who's already past you takes some doing.
Żyro is so much more mobile than Mag, better with his feet and at least nearly as good with his head.
Ajose is like the player we thought we were signing.
You could not fault the commitment of any of them.
Fosu can still be very annoying when he doesn't pass to a teammate in a better position and takes a shot were he has hardly any chance to score.
Get a pwoper English coach in. Go 4-4-2, little and large up front. One wide one narrow. Center backs win your headers. Two touch and lump it.
Go 4-4-2 with a diamond with the forwards splitting and 4-3-3 with Tarique as a false 9.
But I think to focus on the formation is to somewhat lose the forest for the trees. At times we weren't drastically different to the 4-2-3-1 in terms of shape. But it was style and patterns of play that were night and day different. The movement was FANTASTIC off the ball. It's as if we saved four months of off the ball runs for today. Our forward players interchanged incredibly well. Our players got closer together to play triangles in tight space, and made runs off the ball to create space for a player running at them with the ball at his feet. When we turned over the ball, the attackers defended where they were. We did so much defending in the middle third that Amos had little to do (and still made a great save).
Ajose made the out-to-in runs from the left that we've desperately needed, he worked so hard, he ran channels, he put in a couple very good cross, and he drew two excellent saves from the keeper, deserved a goal. Fosu's work rate and positioning were fantastic. Reeves put in a a shift. Aribo was absolutely everywhere today, a real terror. Page, what a goal, and generally looked very solid. Pearce was very good today, and I say that as someone who is not a fan of his. And Bauer, solid as ever, snuffs out danger before it becomes danger.
To single three out.
Zyro: Hero. He has everything, touch, pace, aerial ability, and at one point he picked out Fosu with a 50 yard diagonal with his weaker right foot. His movement and interchange were really good. He is excellent at finding pockets of space. Put two chances just wide or he could have had a hat trick.
Dijksteel: He looks a bit good this lad, doesn't he? His 1-v-1 defending was absolutely excellent. He put in a couple good crosses, including the one that fell to Page for his goal. He is incredibly skillful on the ball. A couple times where he got really narrow and basically ended up playing as a defensive midfielder, but it was a good preview for what he'll be like when he gets a run out in his natural position.
Forster-Caskey: My Man of the Match. He was everywhere. His positional sense and reading of the game were fantastic. He was the foundation around which the performance was built. He did so well at covering for players bombing forward and breaking up play. When he joined us I thought he'd be playing more in a role like this, breaking up play and then starting attacks from the back of midfield. Absolutely ace, well done young man.
All eleven played very well especially Dijksteel who was fo me man of the match. Reeves played very well and had his best game for us which shows he has got something about him after all. Even Ajose had a good game. Pearce showed what a good captain does; shout a lot. Solly may struggle to get back in the side.Page’s goal was outstanding and if he plays like that from now on the dasilva may struggle to replace him. Zyro is much better than Magennis right now and should start regardless. So many good points about Charlton’s game ; speed, momentum, quick balls, deft passing, tackling and winning possesion, hitting the target, calmness and focus. Happy day.
Also want to add special mention to Taylor Maloney, didnt get on the ball in his very brief cameo yet for such a slight build... Blimey was he good challenging in the air

Lapslie has shown a consistency of performance over time, Maloney has to get that series of performances in. I like them both.
Can anyone confirm why the Argyle keeper escaped any punishment for what seemed a deliberate handball outside the box? The ref seemed to take an age explaining something the JFC before the resultant free kick.
Now remind me again why it was so difficult to play two upfront again? We came out of the traps on fire and Zyro was played in with a minute gone. Lovely hit from Page to open the scoring and then a perfect cross from Aribo for Zyro to nod in. The only times that Plymouth got behind our defence saw Amos tip a daisy cutter onto the post and to safety and one angled shot go just wide. Ajose and Zyro had plenty more chances to finish them off. Dijksteel looked a bit nervy in the first half and his first touch was poor but got right back into it in the second half and pulled off some smart tackles to stop their attacks down the wing. Aribo worked hard along with JFC in the middle and the whole team seemed to keep its shape well when they didn’t have the ball. We seemed to tire in the last 15 minutes but still managed to stop them playing their game. First time in a longtime I have come away from a game feeling positive about our chances for the play offs and as has been mentioned previously we still have Mav to come back.

@addick05 this was posted on the match thread; ross1 4:04PM Free Kick Once the referee decides that the goalie has illegally handled the ball outside the box, the whistle blows and play stops. The referee places the ball at the spot of the infraction. When play resumes, the opposing team receives a direct free kick at the goal.
Discipline A goalie who commits a violation outside the box typically will only risk receiving a card or being sent off the pitch if the handling was clearly committed to prevent an impending goal from going into the net.

Their good run clearly not a fluke.
And we outplayed them in every part of the pitch all game.
That's how good, and how much better we were.
442 is not better than 4231 but it doesn't rely on one player playing well.
442 suits our squad and this league.
All the players did well. Reeves had his best game for us, Page solid as were the BFG and Pearce.
Dijksteel couldn't get a game before. Should have replaced Kashi.
JFC my motm.
Fosu tried a lot that didn't come off and maybe wasn't at his best but he kept going and should have had a pen at the end.
The second half wasn't as entertaining but we were in total control and didn't give them a sniff.
Agression, energy, teamwork and great finishes plus a clean sheet.
That we do me.
Poor ref.
