My thoughts on the game (most has been said already, but who gives a damn !)
For those who said we should stick with Robbo & we are mad for wanting a change..........stick that in your pipe & smoke it !!!
So refreshing to see us pass & move & none of this tippy-tappy stuff. Defenders did what they are paid to do (and boy, didn't they just) & not pass it amongst themselves.
Robbo is a clown. End of. We all could see that 4-4-2, with more urgency, was the way forward. Stubborn pr**k couldn't or wouldn't change it. Had we been playing like that since xmas we'd be safely in the top 4. What a season he's wasted.
Djikstel was immense. May have been out of position a few times (but lacked cover sometimes) but got out of trouble & helped the team going forward.
Crossing a lot better. The cross for Zyro's goal plus a couple more in the first half were excellent.
Movement up front was the best all season, Zyro won most of the headers & good on the floor too. Magennis should be on the bench next Friday (got our tickets)
Keeper should have got at least a yellow. Read what someone had posted about the laws of the game - rubbish ! We had a keeper sent off at Orient for the exact same thing.
Ref was a numpty all game. Even booked Pearce after the final whistle for a challenge he made a minute or two earlier, even though he had time after the incident when Amos took a goal kick. Obviously had seen the form guide & had lumped a pony on them to win. The foul given against Zyro in the first half was a classic.
Place was rocking after Page's goal & don't think I've seen Golfie Jnr so elated in years - he was buzzing on the way home.
Thought Plymouth fans were scummy. Booed very loudly when our team was read out (at 2.30pm & at the start). Really glad we won.
What to add to the above? Just that everybody seemed to know what their job was and did it, every minute. Including Naby Sarr when he came on. And so many 50:50s won. Plymouth bullied out of it at times, and that's something I never expected to write this season.
If all the rumours are true the new Aussie owners have a huge call to make, even before they officially take over. Why would you bring in Kewell now, after that?
Because Crawley scored three at home today...............Bowyer out!!!
Crawley no win in 5. Do we really want Kuell just cos he is an Aussie?
I was travelling back from Pershore today and passed through Evesham the historic river market town... I can confirm that I am not surprised by the improper spelling on this occasion.
I would also agree I don't want Kewell Kwell or Kuell any where near us.
About bloody time we saw a proper Charlton performance. Reminded of the time when a 18 /19 year old Bowyer was scoring goals for fun in the 95/96 season when everyone in that side gave 100% and could not give anymore.
Pearce was like Webster. Aribo like Mortimer. Ajose was Whyte. Zyro like Leaburn. You get where I'm coming from.
If we played like that with 2 up front then we would be top 2 by now, but only one idiot thought that his formation would work.
A long way to go but a play off spot is possible under Bow and Jacko. Plus we have Mavididi, Magennis, Da Silva and Konsa available soon.

That KAG kid can sign up straight away though.
Yes, letting in 5 goals at home (to a team below them in the league) is pretty poor really
I think the ref got the handball correct. The keeper made an error catching the ball, instinctively tried to re-catch it and lost sight of where he was on the pitch. Be very cruel to call it malicious.
I have never seen anything like the decision the ref made giving them a free kick in the first half. Their 19 who was as dirty as they come went into Bauer who was looking up at the ball to make a header and the ref gave them a free kick. Now I know he wasn't a cheat, but what must go on in his head to be so clueless. The 19's arms were all over the place - he never went for the ball but played the man every time and the only free kick against him was when the lino gave it when it was right in front of him. Not material to the game, but you can't reward donkeys over skill - too many League One refs need to look at themselves! Rant over!

I don't know if someone had a word with him at half time (or threatened to give him a rectal prostate examination!) but he improved in the second half, giving Plymouth far fewer free kicks for nothing challenges.

I think we were reminded of Hamer's red against Orient. You have to decide on intent I suppose. Some refs would have sent him off, but probably one of the few decisions the ref got right today!

I wouldn't say the ref was a cheat, but I think most Charlton fans would agree, that they got the benefit of the questionable decisions. Specifically, he appeared to be completely bias in their favour. I don't say that lightly, but I can't remember such a one sided referee for many a year.
It was Ben Hamer @golfaddick who was sent off at Orient and this was Chris Powell's post match view on it;
"First of all it was a bad decision by my keeper, but is it a goal scoring opportunity? I don't think so.
IIRC Hamer was more central and one on one but Argyle's keeper was to the right hand side of the 18 yard box close to the line with two defenders goal side of him. Now I'm not defending the ref who apparently had a stinker but it's all down to interpretation and the two situations were not the same for comparison purposes. The Orient sending off was more justifiable than showing a card (red or yellow) for todays incident IMO.
I know lots of people were concerned about Bow's behaviour when he was very young but he was always a superb footballer and I will never forget how he beat Wimbledon over two-legs in the league cup as a teenager on his own. I hope that he is given a chance as he has played at the highest level under the best coaches including Curbs.

NO referee would have sent the keeper off The law is clear - it has to be (and I quote) an OBVIOUS goalscoring opportunity.
Please consider whether you should be giving an opinion on a subject you are clueless about - embarrassing.
I said he got the decision not to send their keeper off right! But I only respect the good ones. Hated them when I played but I do give credit when deserved. you just defend refs because they are refs.

Clearly no respect for referees - rant over.
Bit ott, there was no malice from him towards referees in that post.

I guess you could argue with a keeper 20 yards from goal, any shot is an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
I was personally surprised there was no card for the keeper but would've been equally surprised by a red. Think that a yellow card was a fair call for that particular situation.
He knows I hate them! My son is a qualified ref too. I can tell some tales that justify my position from my playing days. But I do believe refs at lower levels allow teams to stifle football more than they do at higher levels.
Strangely an example I would give is about Plymouth. A few years back they set out to kick us off the park and the ref let them and it ended up finishing Todorov's career.
I recall a game I played in where I did foul the opponent a few times and got a yellow card and talking too which was fair, then this player tried to break my leg - broke my shin pad - and the ref let him get away with it. Probably because I had fouled him earlier - my fouls were not dangerous more small and persistant!
Watching the highlights, the biggest thing that stands out is the tempo in attack, moving the ball much more quickly and subsequently getting more space and clear sights of goal. That was always the thing that needed to be changed the most, even more than the formation, even if that change probably helped.
Hopefully the fact Plymouth will have been preparing all week to face a short passing 4231 wasn't the decisive factor.
Could climb to fifth once all the games in hand have been played, let's hope today is a sign of how we will finish the season and not a flash in the pan. Hopefully Bowyer will be given at least a couple more games to show what he can do.

I think you are right, faster, more risks taken in attack, more direct.

Not OTT - he has form.
There was clearly no red card offence so why be so controversial?
It can be argued that it could have been a yellow; however the counter argument for no card is that the keeper slipped (watch his feet) and his reaction was instinctive. Opinions, opinions.
Lets call a truce - I hate refs - I manage a team and I always tell my players to respect the ref. My son is a ref - but I think there are some terrible ones - fair play to you for defending them - they have always been my enemy but without refs we wouldn't have a game! If today's one packed it in the game wouldn't be poorer for it though! Sorry, I can't write a para about refs without slagging them off - it is in my DNA.
My son plays which I think makes him a better ref. But that is for another thread.
What I don't understand is that I said that the ref got that decision right!

I rarely comment on home matches as there are plenty of other Lifers attending to give their thoughts.
However, today was a one off ( but let's hope it isn't IYKWIM) so a few thoughts from this old timer.
We were treated to hospitality in the Centre Circle Suite and seats in the West today thanks to @HantsAddick who was celebrating her birthday - and what a day it turned out to be !
The 3 course meal, wine and of course the company was really excellent as was the visits to our table from Keith Peacock, Bob Bolder and Theo Foley plus a special guest for Jean arranged by her good friend @GlassHalfFull - Nicky Johns who is one of her all time favourite players. How special was that !
And so to the stuff on the pitch.
Suffice to say that our lads did Jean proud today. What a start from our newest managerial pairing - to me that's what they are.
For me, this team was unrecognisable from the one we've agonised over for the past few months. This was more akin to the buoyant, energetic outfit that gave us so much hope at the start of the season, and boy, was it exciting !
From that wonder goal from a renewed Lewis, to the great header from Michael from young Joe's pinpoint cross and on to the final whistle, we battled for every ball, bullied ( a word not heard often enough of late) the Pilgrims & rained more shots on their goal than since Christmas I think. What a performance from a group of lads that looked tired, stale & unmotivated under the previous incumbent. Sorry, Robbo, but it had to be said.
Back in hospitality, we had the opportunity to vote for MOTM ....a task we would of late found impossible.
THIS time, yes, it was still impossible but because every player in the red shirt today had a shout for that accolade. What a turnaround !
Whilst JFC had his best game since he joined us IMO, whilst Joe was confidence personified, whilst Lewis & Michael scored the most important goals of the campaign ( AND the former managed to stay injury free !) , whilst Patrick showed his class despite the ref's best efforts to red card him, whilst Jason was his usual immense self in repelling all potential boarders and whilst Ajose showed why he was he was revered at Swindon, my choice had to be our young right back, Anfernee. Such a mature & dominant performance deserved its reward and I was clearly in good company with my vote. The award was made, with the young man taking the presentation & request for photos completely in his stride. Bless his heart.
And so, it would appear, the first green shoots of recovery from a dismal & heart wrenching period on the pitch are appearing. Lee & JJ were spot on with their choice of the starting eleven and with their tactics against an impressive Argyle who managed to give us some anxious moments as we began to tire. They clearly have the backing of the faithful and whatever comes to pass behind the scenes regarding the ownership of our famous football club, it would be unfair to say the least if they were not given more matches to show their competence in the role.
Whilst our club is still in a state of flux, it is heartening to have two such characters managing our squad. And with the fitness of a certain Mr Mavididi improving week by week, surely those elusive Play Offs that I, for one, had dismissed out of hand up until now, could prove to be within reach ?

Bowyer hasn't got the necessary badges/qualifications to become the full time manager. He can cover it on a temporary basis.
