Josh McEachran hails from Campbeltown, Mull of Kintyre. Or at least his grandfather does. A natural for the Addicks with the VFR links. Go get him, Bow.
Josh McEachran who has been on trial with Sheffield Wednesday is no longer wanted. DMF who has good Championship experience. Could be worth a punt.
Any idea why Brentford let him go?
He has a poor attitude apparently. Chelsea thought he was going to be the next big thing but he just wouldn’t put the work in to develop and that’s been the story of his career. Always struggled to stay in one place too long and never really quite trusted to be essential to a team. Definitely good enough for us though
What is watt up to these days. If anyone can kick him into shape it’s Bowyer
Not too sure about that to be completely honest. Remember Bowyer saying at Bromley Addicks that Watt is the only striker he has ever known who isn’t interested in scoring goals. If that original desire isn’t there, I don’t know if Bowyer could even pull something out. Tony Watt is an anomaly.
In terms of midfielders. I think we need at least one who has played at this level before.
McEacran would excite me. He might be up for Bowyer revitalising his career.
Other names are Derby's Jacob Butterfield (currently on trail at Luton), Forest's Liam Bridcutt or Ben Watson.Robert Lee's son Olly is available from Hearts
It also is not a question of Bielik and Cullen returning but finding the next gem. Maybe that is Connor Gallagher.
No, I just mentioned that he was on trial at Sheffield Wednesday (after being released by Brentford), and that they let him go So is available on a free.
McNulty would clearly rather be a big fish in a small pond. Not the sort of personality we would need in the dressing room this season.
We beat them to Lyle last summer. I know exactly which of the two I’d prefer. :-)
His record doesn’t look really superb and reading seem keen to let him go. That said, if bowyer wanted him then he must have been decent. Shame.
What about Parker, he wasn’t decent. Bowyer will make mistakes and with the budget it’s to be expected.
Parker was the free cover in case the deal we were going for fell through. It did fall through and despite his limitations, he played a key part in our promotion. Watch the closing stages of Wembley and if you don't get it, keep watching it until you do. In the context of why he was signed, I think it was a bloody spectacular signing. Parker deserves our gratitude. I'm not going to argue he was a great player, but he made a difference. We ought to be a bit more appreciative IMO.
completely agree.. he was a constant nuisance and even in 90+ he was getting in the right positions, and then obviously won the free kick for 'that' goal with some great backing in
Not sure if we could afford him but Steven Naismith has been on loan at Hearts from Norwich city for the last couple of seasons and now released by Norwich. Hearts were keen to sign him on a permanent but not sure it happened. Very nice bloke and good footballer.
If you really know your football then you'd realise that Parker was instrumental in us beating Sunderland @ Wembley, yes he was limited and crap in front of goal but his running throughout and pulling their defenders all over the place provided a lot of space for our midfielders, particularly when Williams came on, to run into. he also won us the free kick that we moved the ball rather than launch it that led to the winner.
So he did a job for us but League one is his level and I thank him for his efforts, he never hid and did a job Bowyer & JJ asked him to do.
Parker definitely played his part in our end of season run and certainly in the Wembley win. Am I sorry he’s left ? No. Am I glad we had him last season ? Absolutely.

This.
I do not understand why some of our fans are so negative about a journeyman player who played his part in our promotion.
In fact it further demonstrates how astute Gallen is
Parker was like a poor man's Emile Heskey for me - never going to be a prolific goalscorer but added to our forward threat. I'd have him back as a squad player if that's all we can afford.
He was limited as an individual threat but worked his nadgers off for the cause. I won’t forget that it was him that won the free kick that led to our winning goal at Wembley. He deserved his day of glory just like the others. I wish him well.

Surely not?
If we would even consider Parker squad player for the Championship then we are fucked.
He did well for us in the time we needed him yes, granted but no way is he anywhere near championship level.
Parker will not have been an a top wage at Charlton, for what it would cost I personally think on occasions he could do a job as a late sub or be a nuisance value when we are under the cosh.Agree he would never set the championship alight, but he was invaluable ar wembley and probably was unlucky to be let go.
Parker was good enough at the tail end of the season and stepped up when we needed him against Doncaster and Sunderland. Particularly against Sunderland, where we really needed a player to hold the ball up at their end of the pitch, stretch the backline and win free kicks. L1 was definitely his upper limit though. I don't see him being anywhere near as effective as a target man against higher level defences and I think he would be completely dominated in the Championship. You can just about get away with a non-scoring striker if he affects the play positively in the final third, but if that goes too then he's got nothing.

If we need squad players and we have no budget then our options will be limited. I'm certainly not advocating Parker but if we have no other options.

If we have no other options then I'd prefer to see some of the academy players run around a lot.

But then we dont want to damage them by throwing them in too early as we'd just set back their development; Joe Pigott and Karlan Grant should be clear warnings of doing that
