I'm coming up from Cardiff, thinking of driving to Reading then getting the train into to Paddington and tube to Wembley. If anyone else is coming up from the West let me know what your plans are see if we can meet on the way etc.
Beardface - last year when we saw ELO play at Wembley, my brother and sister in law who live in Henley (close to both Reading and High Wycombe) got a train from High Wycombe to Wembley. That avoided the need to go into Paddington from Reading and then get the tube on to Wembley. They said afterwards they got on a train pretty quickly back to High Wycombe. Might be worth you checking that out.
On a hen weekend in Brighton from Friday so going easy on the shots Saturday night and driving home early doors Sunday morning. Drop mum home. Drop car home. Meet my gang. Train up to Charing x, and drinks around Marylebone/Baker St I should imagine.
I am on a cruise that lands at Southampton on Sunday morning. It’s going to be a mad dash upto the dome, the underground to Wembley and hopefully make it before kickoff

In 1998 I went with some mates & we got a dartford train into charing x & then walked (????) to Baker street for beers & train from Marylebone. This time I'm coming from Swanley (with 15 yr old son) so either into Victoria or Blackfriars....... and probably no beers Is Marylebone into Wembley Sradium still the best route or should we tube it to Wembley Park ??

The later you leave it the more rammed the underground will be.

Do yourself a favour and make that 12.30 allow for delays/crowd congestion. But yes, normally this would be ample.

Yeah definitely don't plan to arrive at 2.45 and stroll through! Getting away will depend like others have said what happens. If we are getting tonked then I would expect the journey to be pretty smooth. Likewise if we win early. In fact getting away assuming we will hang around and celebrate for a bit or gtfo if we lose shouldn't be chaotic as it's a one off game. in theory one set of fans will all clear out first as opposed to 70 odd thousand after a good England game or a gig

Wembley is excellent for public transport really, ANY stadium with 90000 people attending will take some time to clear
There is something quite iconic about the walk down Wembley Way from Wembley Park station, approaching the stadium that way really builds up the excitement
I get to Wembley a fair bit for England & NFL games and for the size of the stadium its very well organised for those using Wembley Park, I would say on average 25 mins from gate to platform.
The MPS have 2/3 pauses where you are held to let the steps up to the station clear, these take no longer than 5 minutes, and as well as seeing the steps clear, they hold signs up saying wait please/walk please and loud speakers.
It allows just enough time for Northerners to moan about how clueless everyone is in London and how much better things are at the Grimthorpe annual turnip growers fair. Then you move forward onto the next one.
Sunday will be even easier as the crowd is effectively half and half so one lot will be long gone by the time those celebrating come out. For England/NFL its pretty much all at the same time and still works.
It really is a well drilled operation, after all, they do it 20 times a year and Grimthorpe is an annual event.
Expect a packed tube until Baker Street but as we locals know the trains come in every 3 minutes not once a day.

Would welcome some advice, will be coming up to Wembley from Bristol with my old man, he is one week away from a knee replacement, what would people suggest either train or driving to get us as close as possible with little walking?

Going to the 7s at Twickenham on Saturday, semi tempted to get a hotel near(ish) Wembley for the Saturday night - this bank holiday weekend if going to destroy my bank balance!
Wembley, among the most inaccessible football stadiums in the country. This will only be the second time I have been there with Charlton and the coach will be my method of transport. If on the piss and time or company is not going to be an issue then get the train and spend a few hours fart arsing about and go for beers afterwards.
If you are driving, firstly I salute you, as parking round Wembley has become big business. There is a fairly easily accessible car park at the back of a working mens club at the Brent council end of Wembley. There will be a lot of signs up of people offering to park on their drives for anything from a tenner further out to 30 quid nearby.
Don't expect to get anywhere quickly though

Depends, it's not the stadiums fault. It is where it is, it's a nasty part of London to get to. The shiny new station and the volume of police that are involved helps but I wouldn't say it is any quicker to get there and back now as it was 20 years ago.

Ah right - no idea on driving. Have been relatively frequently for NFL/England/Spurs matches and I think the public transport situation has improved massively in recent times. They have worked hard on the scheduling of trains and tubes to match peak demand and also controls the crowds along Wembley Way (or whatever it’s called these days) to Wembley Park a lot more effectively. Obviously getting 90,000 people away from a single geographic point isn’t going to be easy, but they’re a lot better at it than used to be

One word of warning they are usually short trains. Don't leave it too late in case you can't get on the train.
Though how long due people reckon thr coaches will have to wait to get out?
