For god sake. A respected itk poster says we are trying for a permanent deal but won’t out of respect to his source give an exact name but a few hints to help us and he gets pelters. Some people are knobs of the highest order.17

I rarely read the transfer rumour threads on this forum, and only dipped in today as recovering from New Years celebrations and have nothing better to do.
I can however imagine that giving vague clues and then hiding behind the veil that releasing the exact information would somehow potentially cause the transfer to fall through would irk other posters. That is playground level shenanigans.

1) Yes I am afraid I do find that to be ludicrous. The idea that the name of a potential transfer target being unknown to other teams vast scouting networks, until it has been mentioned on specific football teams forum seems entirely unfeasible to me. A players agent would be touting his client to a variety of contacts to assist in getting the best possible deal for him.
Furthermore if a rival team had no idea that 'Player A' was for sale, and then someone mentioned we were close to signing 'Player A' on a relatively small football forum thread where hundred of players names are mentioned. I literally don't see how 'Player As' name filters back to the appropriate people, unless you either think that rival teams scouts read rival teams transfer forum rumour threads, or that a journalist does that same and is going to publish that unsubstantiated rumour somewhere.
2) I can actually get behind this a bit more. Whether it helps in a game or not, teams increasingly do use technology and data to scout opposition teams and come up with effective plans against them. However following on from the second part of my first point, I just don't see how the name of that player if it was posted on this forum would become public knowledge beyond those who read this thread.0 -

Bowyer was reported as saying he was intending to bring in a player from a Premier League club on loan today.1 -
Cawley saying announced in morning but done0

Correct Oggy. And not necessarily today or even this week.0
-
Charlton loan signing will be confirmed tomorrow morning. It's definitely done.

These journos are sooooo attention seeking.8

will he be okay to play tomorrow?0

I reckon we need at least five
My wish list
Left Back. Page is still out. Purrington has been disappointing.
Central Defender. Lockyer needs a partner who is more reliable than Pearce / Sarr.
Midfielder. Pratley rotation to replace Kayal / Ledley.
Two strikers. One to replace Leko and an alternative target man.13 -

Wonder whether it's to stop Swansea having heads up on squad, such is our plight in the 'lower end of the table'

In Bowyer we trust. (The same doesn't apply to Roland however)1

How is it that both the Sale thread and this one sees people arguing and being generally rude to each other? I know forums are for debate, but once again we are falling into playground stuff again. I believe all this nonsense on both threads will hopefully stop when RD goes and we all get back to normal (whatever that is), however in the meantime, let's just wait and see who it is we've signed, who is coming on loan and then debate their potential effect on up coming games. Let everyone just bloody chill out!!14

Dammed if you dont or do say anything. I have told someone who it is and then they confirm it when announced on a permanent basis. One thing is for sure when people close to a move pass on information I ain't going to say a word.2 -

'You posting the name of whoever it is your heard we are signing will literally have 0% impact on any potential transfer'
This is what I wanted to have a discussion around, and in what the original poster backtracked on then accused me of 'acting like royalty' because I called him out on it.
You eventually gave me a response to which I appreciated and then gave what I thought to be a decent counter response, but now you've just reverted back to being your normal defensive self.

Probably best to just say fuck all then really. Alternatively, If you wanna come on a forum giving it the Charlie big potatoes cos you know more than the next charlton fan, prepare yourself for a bit of stick. I’m sure you’ll survive.10

Can't wait to find out who the loan signing is tomorrow ..... and reading that 20 posters are "underwhelmed".6

If it’s a done deal why do we all have to wait until tomorrow morning for an announcement?1

Suspect the players agent/partner/friend will leak it before then anyway.0
