@Bolderhumphreyreid i cant and won't confirm who told me, but i have no reason to disbelieve him.

In some ways its quite good we aren't hearing rumours or ITK 'sources'. Seems like we are going about our business in the intended way.21

I don't expect anything to happen today. I reckon the deal we were close to was either the Sheff Utd lad (he was perhaps a back up option and although it was all agreed we would prefer another target) or it was the Blackpool lad and we've not willing to pay over the odds).
Gallen said we have 3 bids in for players, so we'd have to have a bid accepted, contracts agreed and signed, medical carried out and passed all today in order to announce something... I can't see it.7 -
Dont forget... Bowyer went to speak with a player on Wednesday then a lot of that would have been out the waycovered_end_junior said:I don't expect anything to happen today. Whichever club that player belongs to; Bowyer wouldnt have been allowed to meet them until the clubs agreed a fee

Or Andre Green signing... We all mentioned names but dont think anyone actually thought of him as an option before it was announcedcharltonbob said:

Agreeing on terms of contract is done well before the medical. If terms of both the player and the receiving club have been agreed, a medical is the final piece really. That and the paperwork all signed prior to faxing it over the to EFL and FA.covered_end_junior said:I don't expect anything to happen today. Something could be done today, but yes, it might be a bit of a push.5 -
True but Bowyer also said that the player asked him about his own (Bowyers contract). That's unlikely to be sorted until Saturday when Lees agent meets Matt.ForeverAddickted said:

After all watching Southall and Bowyer I've got no concerns about them having a fractuous relationship2 -
tomorrow is a bit of a 'free hit' really in terms of West Brom's league position etc.
more important to get the right players in before the end of the month with a view to the games coming up from Feb onwards, have got alot of the sides in and around us.
I'd rather we didn't rush signings in order to get the right players in.....if for example the Blackpool lad and the Sheff Utd fella were virtually done, but we've pulled out as we are shopping in a better quality shop now, then so be it - don't just want bodies for the sake of it.13 -

Josh will be fine with Green and Doughty either side of him with Conor in behind.BR7_addick said:
I completely agree, would’ve just been nice to have one in for this game seen as they’re as good as it gets in this league. Feel for Josh Davidson the job being asked of him.Redrobo said:
I take it we have dropped out of two signings because better are available. Still two hours to go and the fat lady hasn’t even put her makeup on yet.BR7_addick said:Take it we’ve ruled out a signing to make the squad tomorrow? Not even any pretend rumours now..
No doubt they are trying, but getting the signings right is more important that one game.1 -
Regarding the potential loan signing, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if we make another one at the end of the month, so long as we manage to get Cullen in on a permanent contract. He’s falling further down the pecking order at West Ham, especially as they’ve got in Fernandes and apparently looking at getting in Fellaini too. The longer it goes on, the less chance he has of getting into that side. He’d be far better off signing for us permanently.10

Dont know why clubs dont just let clubs sign players yet include an opportunity to buy back / first refusal on any future dealsSage said:Regarding the potential loan signing, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if we make another one at the end of the month, so long as we manage to get Cullen in on a permanent contract. Means Cullen could come join us - No pissing about with going back every year - if he then reaches any potential; West Ham can purchase him again for a cheaper fee!!
Takes the piss a bit out of the club who have purchased the player in the first place and showed a bit of that with Deulofeu and Barcelona1 -
i'm sure the spanish teams do that. Also that lad from Shef Utd that was meant to be coming, they have that clause on him tooForeverAddickted said:

I think an important part of what Southall said is that we are not getting players in to save us from relegation but to help us go forwards over a number of years. Therefore, to me, it seems the likes of the Blackpool striker and Sheffield U centre back were seen more as getting bodies through the door for more short term gain. That approach makes sense to me and could result in these ‘marquee’ signings which may take a little longer to get over the line.2
-
Yeah Spanish teams do it a lot. Carvajal, Casemiro and Morata all went back to Real on buy back clauses after being sold.robroy said:

Then Fulham, for example offer us £10 million for Cullen. We tell them to jog on. They tell westham they will pay £10 mill for him so westham buy him back from us for 5 and sell him on for ten.ForeverAddickted said:

not sure you can have two moves in the same window though, maybe to stop this sort of thing?Cafc43v3r said:

In that case we'd be stupid not to take the £10m in the first place. I think wages are the problem not the registration. Cullen is probably earning more than we are paying him, certainly last season
I think sale and buyback clause happens a lot more in top leagues because of the restrictions on the number of loans teams can have generally get stricter. Chelsea have one for Ake and Bournemouth for instance0 -
Toney seems well out of our budget, I can't see a championship club going for him, 8 figures for a player unproven in the championship is insane. I imagine he will be off somewhere in the summer, maybe a relegated prem team with parachute payments.Scoham said:0 -
Wolves did something similar with Afobe - had him on loan and then signed him on a perm for £10m. The next day they loaned him to stoke for 6 months on the proviso that stoke signed him permanently at the end of the loan for £12m.LargeAddick said:

I honestly think that if we sign anybody from Peterborough it will be Eisa. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we did that and loaned them a player (I’m thinking Morgan) to sweeten the deal.Braziliance said:

Happenede to my Spanish team, Deportivo. We bought a decent winger from Atletico Madrid, he had a stormer for us, and hey presto, they gave us the money back, took the player and sold him for triple to Zaragoza. I really fail to see the advantage in that - if they player turns out to be rubbish you're stuck with a dud, and if he improves, he goes back and the parent club get a bonus.ForeverAddickted said:
