MS being very careful and thinking about what he says when he's talking about Lyle Taylor - Interesting the way he spoke about his door being always open, wonder if he wont push Lyle yet leave it to him if he wants to sign a new deal

Did anyone think that when Gallagher was being discussed that SG’s comment to LB was suggesting he would like to keep him permanently?

Been out and just catching up.

    Thanks for the write up.

I said the Bowyer and Taylor contract fuss was all part of a negotiation and it looks like it is. Let's see if one or hopefully both sign soon.

Assume the marquee signing is Tom Verlaine.

    ALL IS GOOD

Watching it now, MS is very measured with his answers. He takes his time and makes sure he says the right things.

As an ex agent I’d imagine he could spout some old spin but listening to him as our chairman, he’s being quite held back with his responses.

I’m not sure if that’s nervousness or whether he’s making sure he’s not letting on more than there is and he doesn’t put his foot in it.

All looks fairly positive to me.
It’s what I took from the interview the other day as well.  I can understand to an extent some of the worrying on here today given the 6 years endured under RD and the noises coming from the London News Online article about Bowyer ‘demanding’ a new contract, and news that we weren’t pursuing the Blackpool lad, given we need bodies.

However, this is the second time I’ve watched MS and I agree with you.  Yes, they are just words, but that’s all he can give us at the moment, given we’re a week or so into his actual tenure.

If you combine here, Twitter and what is being circulated in the press, plus the circumstances surrounding how dire it’s been under RD, I feel it’s understandable to an extent for people to be nervous, excited, apprehensive, cautious and god knows what else.

We’re all just desperate for a bit of success and positivity, but as Bowyer said and many people have mentioned on here, it’s going to take time.  Jan is a terrible month to try and buy, because selling clubs know that the clubs looking to buy are doing so for good reason, and to an extent, hold a slightly stronger negotiating stance (imo).  Factor in every club knows we’ve just been taken over, I’m not surprised Blackpool reportedly upped their asking price.  I’m very pleased we didn’t go for it based on what I understand to be that we won’t be held to ransom.  I don’t think it’s a case of not having the money to go another £500k, more the principle, plus the value we attach to the player.

I would rather that than we buckle and have set out that yes, if Blackpool can do it, then I’m sure other clubs can do it.

Also, I, like many others aren’t in the know.  A few on here are, and grateful for their info, but even they aren’t fully in the know.

I was a little disconcerted about Bowyer’s comments re: contract and what MS said y’day in the interview, but again, there’s what we think might be going on, and what is actually going on.

I don’t really question people who jump to conclusions based on how emotionally attached we all are to this club, but would echo what others have said, try and exercise a bit of calm.  This is the start of a long term project as I understand it, and it is only a week old (officially).  I’m really not sure what else MS and Nimer can be doing at this stage, other than what they have done

I think any Charlton fan would be a fool not to want to keep him permanently. However he will be playing premiership football next year.

Have to assume he would be a minimum of £10M and don’t see how that works with FFP. Our total turnover as a club is only £14M. Connor might be worth way more than £10M, actually.

The video list on the side showing the Bowyer v Dyer bust up. Very entertaining!

I am a lot happier with that interview than I was the first, we need to give everyone some time and space and stop looking at every detail. Lets get the injured players back, some new players in and get some points on the board.

    £77m is my guess.

    Exciting times. Charlton are back.
  • Interesting that Oztumer is at a similar stage to Cullen

Seems there will be one more potential back too that Bowyer isnt naming so wonder if that'll be Aneke due to the uncertainties of him getting fit this season
  • I like how Southall says he shouldnt have to lure or tempt fans back instead they should want to come back themselves

Love the reaction on Southall's face when Bowyer says a 10-year contract with unlimited budget - Got no concerns between these two

Damn... Bowyer's face is unreadable when the five year deal is mentioned

This thread has been the best thread for a long time. Has made me feel confident of the future and some genuine laughs thrown in with the questions to ask Southall. One happy fan here.

I thought that he looked uncomfortable discussing Lyle, struggling to find words at times.

Matt, What is the largest animal that you think you could catch if it was shot at you from a cannon?

"wow, that's not something that can really be answered here and now, it probably needs it's own platform for discussion."
This deserves more LOL’s, effortlessly slipped in, well played sir

Southall also mentioning he’s going to meet the CAST - positive news continues!

Didn’t he kind of contradict that by saying that if an offer came in he would discuss it with LB but ultimately do what he thought was in the long term interest of the club, even though it may not be a popular decision.

Making sure he didn't say "you know", plus not putting his foot in it.

He said they were going to go with three floors to enable on site accommodation and athlete sleep areas for rest and recovery.

  • Matt Southall is very likeable.  We're due some luck.

Got a really good feeling about this bunch,

    No "kind of" about it!
