Preston v Charlton | Sat 18 Jan | 3pm KO | Post-match Thread

A moment or two of complete collapse leaves us without any points and in a precarious position. Roland's underdevelopment is the cause of this, but the new owners have now assumed the responsibility and, given the circumstances, must act quickly. With the state we're in, there's no room for them to learn, or make mistakes.

We just don't have enough in us at this point. In the last 15 or so games, even when we've been able to equalise we've had to work too hard to do so and are never actually in a position to take all the points. We will be in serious difficulty if we don't get new blood in.

Disappointing all round.

  • Are we in massive trouble yet ?
  • Underwhelming
  • Just a reminder when we score early we lose 2-1
  • Defence is horrific, can't rely on conceding at least 2 a game to get a result
  • Caps off quite a rubbish week doesnt it?

For information, I have no interest of glossy images of the sun in Dubai.
  • Surely we have been the worst team in the division, form wise, since Derby at home? How many points is that?

We desperately need players in the door and soon. We will have players back, yes, but they'll be lacking match fitness and will not be able to pick up where they left off.
  • This is really boring huh

Preston where there for the taking and with Gallagher we may even have taken them. One or two players short as we could have predicted before the game. Still let's target Barnsley, only 3 points. Southall needs to get his finger out.
  • Well , we're still in 19th place , but a win can't come soon enough. Hopefully will be on Wednesday night , but we'll have to wait and see. Get Bowyer signed up and a few new bodies in quick.
  • Hemed should have been brought on at half time as nothing was sticking up front. When he was finally on he won 2 headers immediately.
Bowyer needs to act more decisively when nothing is working.
Apart from that it was a lot of disjointed play from semi-fit senior players and the youth team. Something has to change before February when relegation will be pretty much settled either way.

I think maybe our midfield's inability to keep the ball has something to do with that
  • Surprised Bowyer is not snapping up the new contract given this run

  • Since our 1-0 win over Leeds in September

When we don't score we lose 1-0. When we do score we let in at least 2

So we've been needing 2 goals just to get a point (and 3 for a win), which is untenable if we want to stay up.

I posted this before the match, and once again it happened. We've GOT to find a way of keeping clean sheets, even if it means grinding out a 0-0

I don’t think the situation tonight meets the strict criteria clearly laid out for “massive trouble”.

We are/were in a position where we couldn't wait. Bowyer knows that, he can hardly scream it out given the takeover.
  • Too many long balls, too many poor crosses. Scoring early rarely seems to bring success for us.
  • Keep the faith, don't lose your nerve.

Still 54 more points to play for.
Definitely, on current form we’ll get 10 of them.
  • Can't believe Preston have turned us over twice. They are just not very good. But then again nor are we at the moment.

The basics were not there. Time and time again we failed to pick a simple pass, to control it, or track a runner. At times it looked like a bunch of fat amateurs out playing with professional footballers.

Forget the youth element, the big players, too. Everyone was bad.

And Preston were not even good!

We don’t have enough players coming back from injury to sort out the tiredness in the squad. We need people in and fast.

Need to concentrate on the Fulham game, will have a look at the contract after
  • Time to get Bowyers contract sorted and some new signings made. Can't go on like this and expect everything to be fine. We waited too long to get back into the Championship to just let it slip through our fingers in our first season. Time for the new owners to make an impact.
  • My thoughts exactly...  maybe that contract is "strange"
