Charlton v Barnsley | Sat 1 Feb | 3pm KO | Post-match Thread

Finally, a result. Looked much better with Taylor, Green and Williams going forward, and Cullen anchoring the centre of the park. A worldie save or two from Phillips. We commanded the first half.

Then we were lulled into a lethargic second half, particularly after Barnsley's substitutions injected a bit of pace into their attack. We were under the cosh from then on, but able to see the game out after conceding.

Good result, but room for improvement.

Most importantly, three points feel so good!

Let's hope we can go on a bit of a run.

Huge result. Shame about Leeds doing their usual bottle job against Wigan.

Did you see how Kyle waved as he was leaving the pitch. He must be off.....
he was waving at the Barnsley fans
  • Shame about Wigan winning but this looks better already.

Fantastic to get the three points - let’s hope we can build some momentum from here.

  • Thats looking a bit more healthy.

  • None of my business I suppose, but any idea if something happened to Andre Green this week? Seemed a bit emotional after he scored and the players all huddled round him. Looked like Bowyer came and had a longish chat with him at full time and then pointed something out to him in the stands.
  • Table would've looked a lot nicer if Wigan had lost.

Another huge game next weekend at Stoke.

Rode our luck. They hit the woodwork 3 times. Very poor once Williams and Taylor went off. The Taylor sub baffled me as he did not look injured. But 3 points were vital.Jumped above Hudds and Stoke which is good.

Cheeky Charlton WUM awards: First half—Lyle winding up Barnsley's great unwashed with paparazzi poses and, second half, Prattley giving a kiss on the nose to a Barnsley player that fronted up to him after he stole a cheeky swig from their water bottles (at the end of the second, when Andre Green was wiped out).
  • At that two nil we were cruising but it’s never straightforward is it.

Very scrappy game. Proper Charlton ending there!

We cannot defend. We are so poorly organized all over the pitch. It's basic stuff like diving into tackles and not getting anywhere near the ball, leaving a player to run free into space. Just stay on your feet and keep the shape! Or knowing when to go the ball and when to stay with your man. Work needs to be done on the training ground.

We might have been lucky in the end but we deserved our luck turning. It's about time!

I heard his grandad passed away this week.

We never make it easy, but that was a must win and we got it done. Quite a finish from Woodrow for theirs (should be after him this summer), defense had it all to deal with but at the end they stepped up and did their jobs. Look the world with Green, Lyle, and Williams going forward. Hopefully a turning point this one!
  • That was a needed win on so many levels. I hope HE enjoyed the game.

Get in, off to go and celebrate in The Swan for free!

    You're welcome.
  • Massive result but  very very fortunate.  They forced a worldie from Philips and hit the woodwork at least twice.

Without Lyle and William's we looked very League 1..

    Awful second half.

    Thought Matthews played well.

Our subs meant we took our foot off the gas as we adjusted, whilst at the same time, their subs injected some much needed pace. That caught us off guard a bit. Still, being able to hold them off shows we can manage a bit of pressure and adversity. Just keeping everyone fit is the challenge.
