None of my business I suppose, but any idea if something happened to Andre Green this week? Seemed a bit emotional after he scored and the players all huddled round him. Looked like Bowyer came and had a longish chat with him at full time and then pointed something out to him in the stands.
I heard his grandad passed away this week.
Doesn’t seem appropriate to “like” this, so thanks.
Sad news for him. Great to see the way the team rallies around at a time like that.
Thought Green was excellent today, so credit to him for using it to help up his game.
Mowatt is a good player. They played some nice stuff. We were happy just to get rid of the ball up the field at times. Alfie needs to release the ball going forward.
Much needed 3 points, but we made a lot harder than it needed to be. If only we could defend..... Green worked his socks off, Cullen was immense - as he always is. Thank god we didn’t lose Taylor otherwise we would be really in the shit.
As unconvincing a win as you can get. 2-0 flattered us at h/t and other than the goals not another effort on target. Thank Gawd for Dills and the woodwork. A much needed three points though so no real complaints.
Totally different side with our main players back in the team. Great to get the three points and looking forward to going to stoke next week. But right now I just wanna get home I'm absolutely freezing.
Davis coming in and sitting in front of the defence is going to be crucial over the run in. That’s his game and given our shaky defending it might just make the difference.
Forster-Caskey coming on changed the game, half a yard slower than everybody else on the pitch and offers fairly little going forwards and back. Should’ve been Field or McGeady.
But I am more than worried that we were out-possessed 61-39, out passed 70-52, out shot 16-8, out-shot in goal 6-4 and needed 2x as many saves....
all to scrape by maybe the worst team in the division, at home, with a big crowd and the owner present.
I worry we have a very difficult slog to the end of the season. We wasted all our transfer window trying to get midfielders and strikers instead of shoring up the actual part of our play that is costing us points.. defense.
That's the last time JFC comes on in midfield hopefully. He looked good at LWB for a bit earlier this season but has been a complete disaster in the middle
Alfie needs to play wing back IMO. Let him get further forward and run at the defense. Great to have someone with his pace. Did I hear correctly that Fulham put a bid in for him?
We got lucky if we're honest. Still not convinced wing backs is a good option for us, we looked much more solid against Fulham.
Maybe today's gameplan was meant to be best use of available players, bearing in mind limited fitness of some. Plus the wing backs could provide a bit of pace?
Once the 3 new players are assessed and integrated in training, maybe a different gameplan and formation will be used?
Made hard work of it, as usual, but generally a good all round performance. We were cruising at half time and probably guilty of being a bit over confident in the second half. Thankfully they were able to up the work rate again after conceding, although there was a brief wobble and the woodwork came to our rescue too. It wasn’t pretty, in the end, but the result mattered above all else today.
One absolute worldy save from Phillips Matthews can’t cross for toffee but he’s looking assured defensively. Back three were mostly good, no glaring errors from any of them. Alfie Gump needs to learn to get his head up, but much promise from the lad, and boy can he run.
Midfield we’re running on fumes by the end. Cullen and Williams make such a difference. Such a shame Cullen couldn’t direct that diving header better. I might a creamed my pants if that went in, would’ve been a stunning goal.
You can see all that Taylor brings by how we looked after Hemed came on. Not digging Hemed our because he did his best to put himself about, but Taylor has that extra bit of pace, strength, and street smarts to give defenders a tough time. No doubts about his commitment - contract or no contract. Hemed will get there with matches and once we start playing to his strengths rather than trying to us him as a Taylor clone.
I’m going to give motm to Green. Worked really hard, held the ball up, won headers, worried them with his pace, and took his goal ever so well.
Forster-Caskey coming on changed the game, half a yard slower than everybody else on the pitch and offers fairly little going forwards and back. Should’ve been Field or McGeady.
It will be next week, probably?
Forster-Caskey hasn't played since October - not surprising he wasn't sharp. At least it gave JFC some 'minutes' towards vital match fitness.

"Charlton earned only their second win in 18 Championship games ....".
Or they could have said, "Charlton earned only their second win in 7 Championship games .....".
Or even, "Charlton earned only their eighth win in 30 Championship games .....".
Or even "Charlton earned only their sixty second win in 100 Championship games .....".
They are all true. Where do you draw the line.? Hacks trying to be sensationalist.
I like Hemed though he works hard, he needs a goal badly.
How the hell the ref only showed their number 18 a card once is beyond me.
