Phillips
Matthews Lockyer Pearce Oshilaja
Field
Morgan Cullen F.Caskey Doughty
Bonne
Which allows Williams to come on when the opposition start to really come at us to break things down with his Am Dram, whilst keeping a level of creativity there.

I had a lot of buffering on my feed in the first half so didn't feel able to allocate players marks. However it looks as if the average mark is going to be quite high for a defeat @lancashire lad . Quite rightly so on what I saw and it'll be interesting to see how this compares to other defeats this season or last come to that.0

The funny thing was that I felt reasonably comfortable until they scored. It was too late to help us but I thought it was incredible leniency for the ref not to give their player a second yellow at the end. One of those games where it felt he helped them more than us.6
-
I thought the Bees goals were coming in the 90th and 94th minute, so getting the disappointment in early was a bonus. We look a better side when Williams is playing.11
-
well i guess we just gotta hope that Millwall and Bristol do us a favour today. also QPR if Wigan do get those points deducted.1

So frustrating to come close to getting a point or even 3 and end up with nothing. However we invited the pressure onto ourselves in the second half. We needed an outlet for the pressure, but we don't have the squad depth at the moment, and it's difficult with the amount of games in a short space of time.
We will need plenty of signings in the summer, especially if we lose the out of contract players (Sarr, Matthews, Forster-Caskey, Hemed etc.)0 -

They'd have won the league in January with Bonne, Hemed, Green as a front 3.Covered End said:

defeat was not unexpected and sadly neither was the concession of very late goals .. still our recent performances have still kept us just above the drop zone0

Perfectly put, Lapslie doesn't hold his position well. He's not quick or strong enough, has a poor touch, doesn't have an eye for a pass or shot. All he does add is fitness to run around the pitch chasing players. Usually a second behind them playing the ball, but it's okay because he's not a great tackler either.SDAddick said:Lapslie: 5 - Yikes. He's just not good enough for this division yet. And tonight it showed. His touch isn't good enough, and he doesn't really have a position, plus he lacks physicality.
I feel like he's confused as to the role he should be playing more often than not and that can't be blamed considering he seems to be played at a different position every week!
We either need to nurture him into a position and focus on improving his ability in that position (not saying we aren't doing that in training btw) or allow him to move on so someone else can develop him. I am not sure his career will have many seasons above League 1, which is sad given his bright start a few seasons back.
From his 48 appearances he has 3 goals and 3 assists. Which is more than I expected as for me he's a defensive player.
G1 - Crawley Town - EFL Trophy (2-0)
G2 & A1 - Stevenage - EFL Trophy (8-0)
A2 - Shrewsbury - L1 (2-1)
A3 -Mansfield Town - FA Cup (5-0)
G3 - Luton - Championship (3-1)
I'd argue he has done his best when played as a RM and especially against Brentford in the home game at RB. I think he is too unpredictable at CM.
I hope we can transform him into Matthews RB support as that game against Brentford he was decent in his time in the RB slot.
This is not scapegoating Lapslie for the loss, that wasn't down to an error he made or a header he ducked etc, it's simply me showing disappointment for the lack of progression he has shown since the 16/17 season.

Someone raised a similar point about players' marks recently: Giving every player 10 after a win undermines the hard work that Lancashire Lad puts in. The marks are routinely wildly overstated - 7s and 8s were thrown around after yesterday's defeat to a far better team. What would you give Benrahma, the Brentford playmaker? 15 out of 10 doesn't work.RedChaser said:I had a lot of buffering on my feed in the first half so didn't feel able to allocate players marks. He'd get a 9, a nuisance all night and a goal, but otherwise wasted plenty of shots when passes were on.Viewfinder said:

A better team we looked comfortable against until our substitutionsViewfinder said:

I'd say your marks were understated.
Edit: and Forster-Caskey 5 :O

Quite simply I base my marks on a players individual performance (isnt that what we're supposed to be doing) rather than anything elseViewfinder said:

The result in my eyes is irrelevant when marking a player unless they were at fault for us losing
Feel too many people will instantly take one or two marks off a player when we lose like last night
Baffles me how a goal can suddenly see someone (lets use Bonne for example) go from being a potential "7" to a "5"3 -
Tough one to take tonight against a top team. Boys gave everything. Rest up and we go again Saturday.4

Great to get the goal, but disappointed falling short of the win. We really feel your support from home! We'll keep pushing!!7

We can talk about the defending for our second goal - Watching back and you have to question how Pinnock allows Bonne to almost ghost in like he doesross1 said:Great to get the goal, but disappointed falling short of the win. We really feel your support from home! We'll keep pushing!!
Of course the second goal we concede is more costly but both equally bad when it comes to defending0 -
For me that was the whole reason for the subs. Williams and Field were the engine room and we seemed to lose all momentum when they were subbed. Obviously Bowyer wanted to try and hang-on - but Saturday's game is more winnable and more important with those 2 driving us forward.blackpool72 said:Win Saturday and we will all be in a good place.

If teams got everything right all of the time, we'd see far fewer goals. It's a great run by Bonne and an even better header from F.Caskey for Bonne to flick in.ForeverAddickted said:

Oh god yeah, for any team to score a goal there is always going to be an element of a mistake from the oppositionDazzler21 said:

4 players involved in the goal, Williams, Doughty, JFC, Bonne. All subbed in the second half1

And people doubt that Bowyer's subs changed the game negatively. He'll learn and grow... I am sure I said this in Octoberkillerandflash said:4 players involved in the goal, Williams, Doughty, JFC, Bonne. All subbed in the second half0 -
Doughty's crossing is a bit erratic (an area for him to work on as he improves as a player), but that was an excellent cross he put over. JFC does really well too as he's not exactly renowned for his aerial presence, and showing the value of a midfiedler willing to get into the opposition box. Delighted to see Bonne on the scoresheet - I think he really needed it. Hopefully it puffs his chest out a bit and we see a scoring streak between now and the end of the season, maybe three more goals from him could make a huge difference to us.

Doughty did put in a couple of good balls. If we have Doughty left, Morgan right and Field holding I think we'll do well.Exiled_Addick said:Doughty's crossing is a bit erratic (an area for him to work on as he improves as a player), but that was an excellent cross he put over. Have to also mention how much better Bonne was on his own, rather than trying to play off Hemed.

It is odd that we have had no williams and doughty then we have both and then we had none again - if you offer no threat going forwards (ability to run at or beyond the defence), you will eventually concede 9 times out of 10. Same problem against Millwall until they came on albeit they scored once they did. I liked the team that started last night but not if the strategy is to change it and have nothing but defensive anti footballers to put on with half hour to go. Be better off having Green on or Aneke on earlier or having doughty and williams on at alternate times.

Could we bring Leko back like we did Field if he's anywhere near fit?0
