Bonne was bought as a punt and at the time wasn’t expected to feature much. That he has is down to others not being able to get Bowyer the right tools to work with.
As an aside I don’t like Bowyer’s recent digging out of players in public, especially young, inexperienced ones. Do that it private, it does no one any good to do so in public. We need the players to be together to get out of this.
Bowyer has my 1000% support. Bloke is a Charlton legend. If I could offer some advice it would be I prefer to loose 5-0 in two of the games and win one than draw and loose the rest 1-0.
Just have ago against Birmingham. I know the forwards are terrible but at least have a go and set up for the win.
Taylor brought mobility up front (amongst finishing and other bits lol) but i feel that bonne doesnt quite have that at this level and cant hold it up or make the ball... hes a yard too short, i think if williams or mcgeady were up there alongside aneke they could run channels and catch the ball and hold it up use their experience to win fouls corners etc... then bring a another into the midfield. In fact just play the liverpool formation.
Bonne's confidence will be too low to start the next game for me. He needs to cut out this strange left foot prodding thingy when dribbling, passing and shooting. Stick to stronger foot and be decisive.
Bonne aint the problem. Lyle taylor is the problem. And arguably Hemed. I expected more from him this season as an experienced pro. Instead id rather we took a chance with bonne and davison. I would also love to know who recruited chuks. I think there is a player there, just not a bowyer player.
Rubbish. 7 points from 9 in the 3 games Taylor could have played. After that he would not have been playing.
Exactly , everyone saying I wish he had seen out his contract and he could have left a legend are now cunting him off for not playing when his contract would have run out !! As you correctly point out 7 points from 9 in the 3 games he missed whilst under contract .
Aside from the daft defending for the goal, I thought we played alright. A lot of people are understandably on a downer now because of the result, but I don't think the performance was as bad as some are making out. I think if our goal had stood and it had finished 1-1 or, better still, if we'd got a penalty and won 2-1, people would be saying how well we'd done. With the benefit of a few hours to calm down, I'd like to mention a few positives: We showed desire and were first to most loose balls, we defended solidly and gave Reading nothing (first 2 minutes aside), we passed it around quite nicely got to their end of the pitch quickly and regularly and we created several good chances. And that's where the problem is. We desperately need someone who can put the ball in the net, and we haven't got anyone. It's a problem because all our apples were in one rotten basket.
I just wanted to query Bowyer's reasoning for the Morgan substitution. I know he's vastly more experienced and qualified than I am, and I can't disagree about the need to track back, but it seems an odd reason to sub him at this stage. Surely you want players on the pitch based on what they'll do for the remainder of the match, not based on what they've just done. Early on in the season, I can see that subbing someone like Morgan for a misdemeanour like that could have a positive effect later on, but we've got just a handful of matches left now we need our best team out there. Would it not be best just to tell the man what he's done wrong and that you expect better - I'm sure someone as vocal as Bows could have found a way to make himself heard above the crowd noise. Now is not the time to use substitutions as punishment beatings.
Not trying to out guess Bow as I greatly admire what he has done for the club but I would have thought a bollocking at HT would have been sufficient? Or extra training? Seems a bit like cutting off the nose to spite the face to sub him. Still I wasn't in the dressing room, so who knows what went down.

I think he knows what he's doing.
He dug Bonne out after the Millwall game and then he went and scored against Brentford. Albie has also put in some great performances recently even with the criticism and it's clear to all of us how much LB wants him to work on the defensive side of the game. He knows it's for his own good as there's a top quality player there if he has it all.
Don't forget that LB knows the character of these players a lot better than anyone on here does.
The goal was Albies fault and Oshilaja is getting some undeserved criticism on here. If you take out him giving away the penalty (which was Albies fault for losing his man) then he had a pretty decent game, off the top of my head I can't think of any other glaring mistakes he made at least. He also put in some great crosses first half which no doubt a proper striker would've done more with.

This. If you subbed a player every time he made a mistake you'd shortly have no-one left on the pitch.
We have 3 games left. 3 games that will decide our fate. Play our best 11 & stick with it. Those players should be able to play 3 games in a week. Ffs they are athletes & have been back in full training for a month now.
I would like to see the team & formation that started against Brentford. 3 at the back (Lockyer, Pearce & Sarr) with Matthews & Doughty as wingbacks (both can run at defenders & cross). The fact that Doughty's run & cross set up the goal against Brentford must have passed Bowyer by as he then drops him and puts Oshilaja back in there (who is not left footed).

Why not? Cullen extended his contract to play all remaining games. Why couldn’t Lyle have done that too?
I don't disagree with what Taylor did.
What ?!! You agree that he shouldn't have honoured his contract & simply not play for the final 2 weeks of June ? Yeah......model pro.
I'm not sure but I think most players n the Championship have signed extensions to their contracts & played during July.

No, it appears Elf’s is saying he doesn’t disagree with LT not extending past 30/06 like Cullen did.
I just don't get why the challenge was made for the pen, may as well let him get the shot out with Dillon running at him 5 yds away rather than a free hit with no pressure.
It's the timing of Morgan not bothering to track his man which would have exasperated - after 2 mins. Last word in the dressing room would have been to track your midfield runners, then......
Second half team should of started bows got it all wrong
this - why the hell oshilaja and pratley start in a must win home game when we have doughty and williams sitting on the bench is baffling - oshilaja played left wing most of the first half when he isn't fit to lace doughty or williams boots - it also means morgan is expected to cover - we have our worst footballer getting loads of ball on ghe left wing - i wonder why reading let him have that much ball - pratley is a battler and pops up with the odd goal but cannot play creative football. we may be a league 1 side but at least use the best players you have - that starting 11 were shocking against millwall at home and we repeat it other than aneke for hemed - strange.

It's a shame for Morgan because he made some decent passes and challenges however he did exactly the same thing last Friday week against the Spanners when Jed Wallace came past him except Dillon saved his bacon with a point blank save.
Bowyer was outspoken on that occasion and yesterday would have been like a red rag to a bull. If the manager says to you 'right you screwed up now don't let me down and do that again' and you go and repeat it within 10 days you're going to suffer the consequences.
Not sure doing it publically is good man management but Bowyer has years of experience in this industry at the top with some old school managers and has decided this is the way he wants to deal such indiscretions.
Morgan should of tracked his man, yes. However, you’re 1-0 down after 2 mins. You give him the glare from the sidelines and have a word at HT. You don’t drag him to make an example. He’s one of the only players in the side that can pass the ball forward with any intent or quality. Sit him down in the changing room, or get him in the office Monday morning, don’t punish the side to make a point in a must win game we are already behind in.
The Millwall one was harsh anyway. Morgan was back in line with the defence, Wallace just pulled out wide and made an intelligent run. That’s experience more than concentration.
Reminds me of when Glenn Hoddle was manager of Swindon and the players said he’d regularly get the hump because the manager was still a better player than most of the squad. Bowyer cannot expect too much from Morgan too soon when it comes to his all round game, which is probably why an experienced left back behind him is even more important. I can’t imagine Oshilaja is constantly talking to Albie, when he’s not even natural in what he’s doing himself.

Totally agree with this.
I also say this with a heavy heart.......great players don't necessarily make great managers. Loved Bows as a player but as a manager I don't really think he knows what he is doing. Keeps changing the side around & playing players in the wrong positions. By all means play Pratley but not from the start. It seems if we go 1-0 up we generally see a game out (Brentford not withstanding but they are an excellent side).....but if we go 1-0 down we generally lose. We need to be at it from the off, play our best attacking players from the start & try to score first.
To me they were both very similar situations and his reaction is one of surprise when the players go past him. We don't see what goes on at the training ground and with the need to keep at least half an eye on your opppsite number and players around you, making a dart into the box. This comes more naturally to defenders or defensively minded players. It's about awareness as well as concentration.
Afie I understand was a number 10 throughout his development yet Bowyer wants him to play a deeper role in midfield which in turn means upping the defensive side of the game. This is improving but there is still a way to go.
There's two likely outcomes as I see it here, Bowyer just lets him have a free role and gives up on playing him as an all round midfielder or he'll be bench warming. As I said earlier a shame but the boss is the boss.

Unbelievable Jeff. He’s just shy of 2 full seasons as a manager, one of those involved promotion, the other he has us still in the mix to stay up with 3 games to go, managing a team with the lowest playing budget in the league and the biggest circus playing out in the background.
That’s damn fine coffee you got there in twin peaks, and damn good cherry pie too
Seems like there's a bit of a theme developing here folks with VG and Golfie two centre forwards in their playing days having differing opinions to an ex defensive midfielder come full back. All makes for good debate though chaps 👍😉.

I don't like it either, it suggests that Bowyer is really feeling the pressure right now.

Nothing better on a Sunday morning than a good old football debate about yesterday’s game mate.
I think Bowyer does know what he’s doing. I also think he has the makings of an excellent manager.
I just think football is a fairly simple game. I’m always of the opinion, that if you play a flat back four, it is mandatory to play the correct footed player at full back. Otherwise it totally effects your ability to do the job. The instinct to come inside in dangerous areas, your body shape, communication with whoever is in front. To then do it 3 of the last 4 games or whatever it is, is just criminal!
Bowyer knows a hell of a lot more about the game than me, and I do trust him. I just can’t get my head round his thinking.
Did anyone else wake up still fuming about yesterday? I’m trying to convince myself that we’d have gone on to lose it Aneke’s goal had been given since it didn’t really look like Reading were working that hard. But I’m still absolutely seething.
Albie has been dug out before for not tracking his man,he must learn one way or another if he is to progress,i think Bowyer might have just been answering a question when he said why he took he took him off.

Boro can feel hard done by, a clear handball in the box by a Brizzle player when they were only 1-0 down, and a minute later it's 2-0
Ditto, a ridiculous decision to not send a Wigan player off (Robinson)
