I don't want Powell back, don't want to see people eventually turn on him the way they have with Bowyer. The guy left us as a club legend, let's leave it there.
he's run his race with us and perhaps has lost the confidence of players and the owner .. a new start with (possibly) fresh players and fresh ideas at Brum ? .. remember that Brum are a division above us, albeit they are in serious relegation trouble
I'll be giving him a standing ovation at The Valley next season.
If he knows of Birmingham's interest, which I'm sure he does, then he's done us over here as they should be buying his contract.
I was ambivalent but that doesn't sit well with me,
What? People were on here all about questioning his loyalty to the club when he hadn’t resigned previously. Now it appears he’s done that and his loyalty is being questioned the other way. About sums up the madness of this place really.
Moving on is probably best for everyone at this point, it will give the whole fanbase a chance to reset themselves - some are too far gone.
Just have realistic expectations please. We’re not going to be able to attract Wilder or Howe so let’s put those names to bed.
He's jumped the moment a job has turned up.
Makes it seem like he was waiting around for a payout anyway.
Yes because he didn’t have the chance to jump three of four times in the last 18 months... first sniff of interest elsewhere and he’s gone. That’s exactly what happened. Yep.
Jumped once the pressure was on and he didn't have any answers.
In the previous year he had zero expectations so actually had one of the easiest jobs in league football. We were expected to lose week after week.
Gutted ! We owe that man alot ! He stuck with us in our darkest hours and had we given him time i still think he could have turned it around but nowdays with huge pressure on instant success and fanbases full of toxic fans like ours that cant wait to be negative no manager is ever given time
all the best to the man and thanks for memorys that will last forever
You realise he resigned and has not been sacked yeah? Not exactly sticking with us is he?
Are you having a laugh everything he put up with over the last few years and still brought success then the esi mess and nearly getting dragged under by the scum of elliott farnell and co
he even made sure he was paid last / late before all club employees and stood with us when he could and maybe should have said no thats it iv had enough
im sure hes had feedback or got wind from staff close to him / sandgaard or players about the online toxic talk of fans and feels a fresh start at a club hes loved and will be appreciated is very appealing right now
I don’t think today, the day that he apparently quits to join another team, is the day to make a big thing about Bowyer’s loyalty and sticking with us through thick and thin!
LOL you have a very short memory! im making a big thing cause it was a big thing at the time and still very important ! and had it not been for him and a few of the other lot around the club helping out you and i wouldnt even have a team to support and worry about right now
hes tried his best and done more than most would have and i appreciate it and wish him all the best and success in the future

Jason Euell to the end of the season. Nothing to lose, you’re delusional if you think we’re good enough to get promoted.
But surely this is the time we mustn’t lose. Get the right person now so that we are primed for next season. Anyone inexperienced with a Charlton connection or not, is not the answer.
I'll never understand the mentality of actively wishing that the new manager is someone without a Charlton connection. Just saying "we need a fresh start" doesn't really cut it as a reason either.
The three most successful managers we've had in the past 25 years have been Curbs, Powell and Bowyer in the sense that they all had promotion winning seasons.
If anything, we're lucky as a club to have a number of people in the game with some management experience who'd love to manage us.
Getting in someone completely unconnected hasn't particularly worked for us before has it? Karl Robinson, Russell Slade etc.
I'm not saying that they absolutely must be a Charlton man, but I just don't understand the notion that they should be rejected for being one of our own. It's a weird mentality.
Comments
Personally think Bowyers time had run its course. I would let Jason Euell have a crack until the end of the season.
The main feeling is relief that a) it's done and b) you didn't have to do it.
Powell was more loyal to the club than Bowyer, played more times for us than Bowyer and of course was more successful managing us than Bowyer too.
In the previous year he had zero expectations so actually had one of the easiest jobs in league football. We were expected to lose week after week.

Throughout the past year I don’t think that I have had once heard JJ speak up and voice a comment about the problems.
If it was Curbs as a temporary manager I would prefer Steve Brown to be number 2.
Listening to him when he commentates he speaks so much sense.
