Three games in and even the naysayers now realise you can't win fuck all with no left back, no left winger and no creativity in.the middle of the park.

Kirk SHOULD have been on the bench.  Ridiculous to not think he could have done 20 mins.

Oxford will be up there.  At this point we are SO far away it is sad.

NOW people realise we are FIVE or SIX players off competing.

We have gone backwards.   Hate it.  Really hate how poor our current position is.

Yes Kirk could have done 20 mins, but as he's been mourning the death of his father, it is understandable he may have needed some time.
He managed to sign his bumper new contract after his £500,000 transfer.

20 minutes and a chance to earn us a point isn't beyond reasonable.
    Well that's utterly unpleasant.
Why?  It is 100% factually correct
And it's entitled dickhead comments like this that are why I'm outta here for a bit.

I’m rather sad how many posters have felt the need to say Kirk should have been in squad today. Considering what the guy has been through this week. For all we know, he may have been at the funeral today.
He said in his interview he was hoping to be involved today. Not sure why he would say that if he isn’t ready to play.

Agreed. Whilst I was thinking “he could have managed 20 mins” the flip side is, his head can’t be right.  we should be pleased that we’ve actually signed the boy - would have been very easy for him to stay up north, get the funeral out of the way and then decide his future. Really don’t expect him to be involved until next Saturday at the earliest.

Am Mr Pessimist but we have played two teams who I think will be top 3 or 4 at end of season.

You might want to take a break before you degrade yourself any further.
Genuinely feel sorry for the lad but do we also give him Tuesday off?  And next Saturday?  He took part in a signing.  He gave club interviews.  I'm interested to know people's genuine opinions.

    Degrade?

    Really?

Great to do an away day out, its been far too long.

More booing of the taking of the knee followed by louder applause to drown it out

Todays performance no different to either of the previous 2. We never look like scoring from open play, including the penalty, the opposition keepers have been forced to make 3 saves in 270 minutes of which only the pen we have scored.

The tactics with the players we currently have are so wrong, Stockley is far too isolated, the wide men are not close enough, and no one from midfield has the nous or ability to run beyond Stockley from a flick on.

In simple terms we only replaced Miller from last season on Friday and we are still waiting on replacements for Aneke, Maatsen. Neither JFC or Gilbert have been replaced. Long way to go but that is poor.

Comfortably beaten by a tin pot club with a tin pot manager is a worry.

Great to see Colin Clarke get introduced at half time, very little response from the travelling support.

This kind of start to the season was always inevitable when we didn’t get that majority of our transfer business done early enough to start with a new-look team. It is basically last season’s team and subsequently has most of the same flaws. Unusually, we didn’t defend very well today which maybe cost us a point, but quite typically we never looked remotely like creating enough chances to score the goals required to win 3 points.

The spotlight is falling on Morgan right now because we all hope, and some believe, he can provide the creative spark but it’s not quite happening for him at the moment. That being said, for 3 games now he’s looked perhaps the most likely to make something happen. Anything we did do today involved him whereas DJ and Clare may as well not have been on the pitch. Clare was particularly disappointing because, for a supposedly all action midfielder there was a real lack of action! DJ I don’t think received a decent pass all afternoon. The lack of balance and pace in our make-shift left side means if DJ is shut out we have nothing. In fact, I’m worried by the lack of attacking input currently offered by both fullbacks because Matthews is fine but also not at all exciting. Gunter wasn’t good enough at right back let alone left back.

Adkins sides are supposed to be dynamic and high energy but I have yet to see much evidence of that so far. In particular we are very one paced. I hope Kirk injects some but I don’t know if he is a genuinely rapid player like Millar was.

There could be many reasons for the relative lack of signings, and some of them may be good reasons, but, whatever lies at the root of it, there is no denying it is hurting us badly. The next two weeks will
be crucial, but I don’t expect much of a change in our form until
after the transfer window has closed. I don’t doubt Sandgaard and co do intend to address it though, the question is can we do the all the deals we need to in 2 weeks?

I'm making an opinion.  Nobody needs to like it, but I would want to take my mind off things.   Each to their own.

Remove the Kirk issue, we're still left with a totally inadequate squad.

Exactly why we should have brought bodies in weeks ago......
  • Said this since last season with stockley upfront we do not play well more often than not yes he will score goals and be a handful for defenders but hoofball is hard to watch and we are not good at it

everytime we brought aneke on last season we played better and it was a relief
we need an alternative or this season is going to be seriously hard work

So one player is going to make the world of difference, it isn't. More signings need to be made, we know that, have a look at the average age of the midfield three. All three were not first team regulars last season and we wonder why we created very little.

I got a day off work when my parents died and a day for the funeral. No disrespect, but why should, Footballers be any different. After that it was use your holiday. An that’s working for major FTSE company.  An this is not directed at Kirk, this is just a basic life statement.

Oxford - 3 sided ground, 8k attendance, very few years as a league side compared to a lot of the 92. Compared to what we should be i would regard them as tinpot.

Robinson- One promotion despite having a bigger budget than most in lot of other seasons. Once in the Championship he finished below us despite us having Luzon/Freaye/Riga.

Also people talking about writing off the season already is crazy.

Look at Blackpool last season, 4 points from their first 7 games, 27 points from 21 games.......and finished the season 3rd.
    Sanity to this thread.
Were you watching? We look a poorer side than last year.

  • PWR. At half time I heard the Oxford commentary describing out midfield as non existent and noted how Clare has continued from his performances at Oxford where they cited him as being next to useless during his time there.

Only watched second half, but looked toothless and no midfield powerhouse to drive us forward. It appeared that our defence just lumped it forward, poorly, and our forwards attempted to compete in the air, often with little effect, thus a wave of Oxford pressure resumed.

A rethink is required from Sandgaard (and Adkins). This squad is going nowhere near top six at this rate. Whether he wants to invest is up to him, but expectations need to be tempered. I doubt Adkins is viewing this squad as anywhere near capable of a promotion spot, if he is he's being very coy.

    Summing up, Disjointed!

I honestly have no idea where Sandgaard stands and I don't think anybody does, outlandish European football aims and a self proclaimed lack of patience, yet a woefully thin squad to start the season leaving everyone else a step ahead.
I think it's fairly obvious the budget is ridiculously small & it's difficult to understand why Adkins came to the club when he has turned down all offers made to him for the last two years & yet Sandgaard seems to have made in nigh on impossible to build a promotion chasing team.

Thanks to Sandgaard we still have a club to support, we got the Range Rovers back from the thieving scum, we have the womens team in house, we have a technical director + his son, we have an improved medical department, we have a fans advisor & we have a clear pathway into the first team for the youngsters (whether they're good enough or not). Unfortunately it seems he's unable or unwilling to fund a squad building that would give us a chance of winning promotion. We've had 3 months to build a squad plus most of last season to spot our targets & yet we're looking at maybe bringing in a few more at the end of the month. Obviously loans & who knows what sort of quality they will be. Premiership in 5 years ? hahaha
