I respect Southgate for trying the attacking line up. It was a very good time to try it out.
It’s also my biggest concern with him as a manager. I don’t think he knows how to play an attacking system.
There’s almost too much attacking quality there and he’s trying to just squash it all together, but it doesn’t quite work.
It doesn’t help that he seems to see Mount as the first name on the team sheet, when in all honesty I think he may be the weakest player of that attacking group (Kane, Grealish, Foden, Sterling, Saka). That is not to say he’s bad, I just don’t quite think he warrants a guaranteed starting spot in the team.
When the oppo sit that deep and we're playing in such tight spaces, surely Grealish is exactly what we need. Really strange decision to take him off and we didn't threaten them after that.
That was painful. But better to get it out of tge system tonight.
Taking Grealish off was a bit of tactical stupidity.
Bang on mate.
Grealish was the only one with intent and capable of making something happen.
To much going back, also thought Mings was taking to long with the ball and to negative at times when he could have pinged the ball to the flanks quicker.
Thought Sterling was not at his best tonight as well.
I thought we would go up a gear 2nd half after getting a decent Rhythm as the first half went on. Didn't happen.
Hungary were good tonight and it was a good test for England but I wanted Southgate to trust Foden in the middle and Grealish on the left with Shaw for the duration of the game.
There was 5 Man City players on show tonight; Harry Kane looked upset he wasn't the 6th.
Comments
He has struggled tonight but Harry had scored in 15 straight qualifiers.
Four - Poland | Andorra | Czech Republic | Bulgaria
Ten goals werent penalties
Two penalties and goals against a Slovenian team.
Poland have to play Hungary themselves
down the left side.
Grealish coming off nullified any threat we had.
Fair play to Hungary though. They have played very well with some nice pressing and smooth counter attacking football.

I do feel it’ll be his decision making that costs us though.
