Right decision however I remain to be convinced about JJ. I simply can’t tell how good he is, or could be, or how much responsibility he has for the current situation. Knowing and having loyalties to the club, being a great player and well liked, does not necessarily equate to being a good manager. Personally I don’t think pitching him into the current situation is good for his development and is unreasonable.
Viewed from another perspective Sandgaard has dithered over Adkins and is now dithering over a replacement. If this goes wrong we might end up in an even worse situation in three games. Of course he will gain short term popularity (which he clearly loves) and save money with this decision, however it it’s certainly not without its risks, and doesn’t suggest an underlying strategy. Seriously what was being discussed into the small hours?!?
I sincerely hope I’m wrong and JJ is the next Curbs
I don't think any fans knew Curbs was going to become what he become. When the decision to lose Gritt was made, I thought we had lost the wrong man at the time. JJ deserves a chance. He has wanted the job for years and this is his time. He has to be given this time and I was for it happening when Bowyer left. If it doesn't work out we have another card to play. But we should all hope that we don't need to play it.
Like is said I hope I’m wrong however deserving to have a go and fairness should be secondary considerations given the current state of the team /club. Personally I think this situation requires proven ability and experience in a relegation fight and should go to whoever is best placed to deliver such. Now that may be JJ, however I don’t feel I have enough info re the areas mentioned to make an informed comment and I don’t think pitching him into the current desperate situation is a fair way of assessing him - It’s a big ask
I don’t think TS is doing this out of a sense of fairness, as much as an avoidance of difficult decisions, dodgy advice, a poor management setup, money, an apparent lack of strategy and popularity.
Anyway no one will be happier than I if JJ does manage to turn this around and I look forward to seeing his team play. If he pulls it off it would be very good news for the club and I will happily eat my words washed down with a celebratory beer!
Not read all the comments on here, got work to do.
Listened to the Talksport interview, TS was asked if the fans were for or had turned on Adkins. His response was along the lines that a minority of gobby fans wanted him out. I paraphrase BTW.
I'm sure that TS has come under pressure from lots of knobs giving him unwarranted abuse but to try and spin the sacking that way seems very strange and of course far from the truth.
Was driving when I heard the interview. Roddy is charge of Sport Science and yet we now have the owner telling us the players are not fit enough and we need to run more miles.
Getting rid of Adkins is only a part of what needs to happen. Having Roddy is this role has brought no positives to us, and when the areas he is charge of are highlighted by the owner as failing he still stays in the job.
I’m also worried about giving JJ a bit of time. It’s the cheap option and I can’t see this producing a ‘new manager’ positive effect. The players need a good kick up the arse by someone new.
JJ got the job easily by just mentioning what a wand of a left foot Jacob Roddy has! He's being fast tracked as a right back, seeing as Matthews and Gunter can't defend off their back foot.
A very good call Canters, should have happened weeks ago.
I think given the opponents on Saturday, it is the way to go. We are playing two wide men and they are not consistently contributing to attack and/or defence at the moment so that has to be a starting point. That isn't to say we won't find a system to accommodate one or two of them, but now it is making sure we compete or even win the midfield battles.
In many ways Sunderland away is a great first game. Nobody is expecting much from it and I have a suspicion that Sunderland aren't that good. With a diamond midfield and the quality we do have, I think we can frustrate them. It is going to be important that we carry a threat and I think Stockley and Leko up top ought to pose problems.
I hope this decision quells some of the anti-Sandgaard sentiment that was beginning to rear its ugly head.
It was duly warranted, the bloke's been sitting on his hands for a month longer than necessary & now we're 3rd from bottom, stop feeding into this "sandgaard the saviour", he's made mistakes and needs to be called out on them. It' just feeding his Shaquille O'Neal sized ego constantly criticizing those who don't like how he runs the club & treating him like a god.
Do you have a hotline to him? Do you know what he does all day? "Sitting on his hands" is not a statement of fact, it is your judgement based on the fact that he's publicly been very quiet recently. Personally, I think that it's probably a good thing that he's been quieter - long may it continue. Sure he's made mistakes, but he also seems to be a quick learner and has rectified them as best possible. As for needs "to be called out on them", in what way does he need to be called out on them? Do you think he's spending all day on social media and treating it as a personal learning session? Perhaps he's sitting in his hotel room right now thinking 'I must say thank you to Sam from Sidcup and Brian from Bexley for showing me the error of my ways'.
I can't comment about Shaquille O'Neal as the only thing I know about him is that Larry David tripped him up, but as for Sandgaard, yes he has a big ego but so what? It doesn't seem to me to be a problem at all other than in the heads of those who want a stick to beat him with. Why on earth should any Charlton fan care about the size of his ego, do you seriously suppose that it gets in the way of his running the club? Absolutely no on-one is treating him as a god, frankly the claim is ridiculous. What is true though is this club has gone through a massive period of instability - and still faces one with the separation from its key assets. Unless you are aware of a massive queue of multi-millionaires lining up to take over, Sandgaard is by far and away the best option we have to bring stability. I would hate to see that jeopardised.
OK folks, one last time and then we can all move on.
My deepest sympathies and condolences to the 57 arseholes that LOLd me back in March when I pointed out that Adkins was an “awful appointment.”
Also in my thoughts and prayers are the jokers that tied themselves in knots trying to convince people that his 33% win rate at Hull was not an abject failure.
To be fair though compared to this season with us - win ratio of 15.3% - his time at Hull was a raging success.
After Jacko won that game vs Bristol Rovers we should have given him the job till the end of the season to see how he went, there was really nothing to lose.
Now there very much is.
Jesus wept lad, who hurt you? I can only imagine the burning rage you've had in your heart ever since 57 people laughed at you for being a bit of a ranting nut. I imagine there's a Sainsbury's employee who didn't give you your nectar points once sat there not knowng they're on your list, unready for the comeuppance they're about to receive. What a life.
They’ve already heard about it on Sainsbury’s Life
Farewell Nigel and best of luck to him. It was just never going to work out for him here for some reason and I wish him all the best.
As for JJ, I'm not sure yet, and I have a slight doubt that we have the No1 & No2 roles the wrong way around. But we are about to find out and JJ deserves his chance. A Notts Forest style upturn in form is maybe too much to expect but would be amazing please JJ!
Back to basics - solid - Lee, CBT and Davidson to come off bench as game opens up
No Gilbey?
I would honestly play Clare RB at the moment. We are so poor RB and Clare is meant to be decent there. I know that's why he left Oxford but needs must at the moment and promise him game time. Can re-evaluate in January but I don't trust Matthews or Gunter there at the moment. It's that bad that if Clare is preferred in CM I would put a u23 RB.
I like this. I can’t hide my disdain for Gunter and Matthews didn’t excite me when he re-signed.
Clare has played there before and although it might not be his preferred position, I think he can do no worse than Gunter or Matthews.
Also, and I’m only saying this because I didn’t get to see him play that much before he got bombed out, but can Dobson come back and offer something perhaps?
One player I would like to see start is Washington. He was one of the only players from last season that I was happy was still here this season. He works hard, and has spent most of his life as a forward, not a wide player, so why can’t we go two up top with him and Stockley/Davison?
Sure Nige will be a bit miffed and pissed off with the outcome but we really had no choice, it just wasn't working out, and I for one wish him well in his next venture, he comes over as a nice genuine guy and he will come good in his next role, just couldn't get it sorted here, i wish Nige all the best for the future, he was certainly a positive input at the begining and came over sincere in his beliefs, so all the best Nige. Lets just see how Jacko does in the next couple of games starting Saturday, but I hope it goes well because it would be great if he proved any doubters wrong and took on the job full time, club legend
If he gets another role at another professional football club it will be as a physio.
I'm confident that we will soon highlight how bad his management is by slowly lifting ourselves up the league to at least a comfort zone finish.

If if it was just about pressure from the fans, even now Adkins may still be manager.
But it was more than that. the results were dreadful. The players unfit. We're sat in a relegation position, 4 points from 'safety'. It was clearly not working.
Further, nothing looked like it was going to turn around soon.
Sandgaard flew in from the States to get this mess sorted out. And at last, he's taken action.

Would have also saved a £1m or 2

Just speak to Charlton TV or something

Gives us a slightly unfair advantage I'll Grant you but I reckon we could come away with a point.
