2 months ago i posted on here about not having any connection with the players. Now we have Lee, Dobson, Clare, Pearce again all on social media loving life, the fans seeing a reaction from a hard fought win, it’s there and it’s down to one man….Jonnie Jackson. And why…. Because he gets it. Managers at this level need to be young and on a level with the players, ours just happens to be a club legend which makes it even sweeter. Offer him whatever he wants TS.

With Stockley out is it too soon to be putting Burstow on the bench for Plymouth?
Don't think that we have any option, tbh.
Depends on Leko’ s fitness, Washington returning injury free and most importantly whether JJ thinks the lad Burstow is ready.
He isn't. Davison, Washington, Lee and Leko if fit are enough forward options anyway. The defence is a bigger worry with only one centre back he may give Elewere a shot but I doubt it. More likely Pearce and Gunter in the middle or maybe even Purrington. Not ideal whichever it is.
That's what I was thinking though we would lose his threat down the left. One senior CB & Stockley out not great when we're about to face the team top of the league.
Satnav did us proud with perfect directions there & back, with no holdups whatsoever. What went wrong ?
Lovely lunch in the Brewery Tap with our 4 pals then a 20 minute sprint to the ground ( barman told us it was 10 ! ) that Usain Bolt would have been proud of, making kick off by 30 seconds....
Was it worth it ?
100% yes !
A hard fought, tough & testing match against a pretty physical team with, for example, Akin battling hard, shoulder to shoulder with his opponent time after time. Just one of our lads to show guts & determination in the face of our " favourite" man in black's penchant for flourishing yellow cards. Sadly, we'll miss the defender's presence next Saturday.
Where we sat, in the far corner from the afternoon's "heated handbags " moment, it was impossible to see what had caused the ruckus but the carte rouge held aloft, seemingly in triumph by the self appointed star of the day, was a bad sign...We thought initially it was in the direction of Captain Courageous but it soon became evident that Jayden would be the player MIA for the next 3 games. Then, before cries of anguish & anger had the opportunity to blare out of the away end, the sight of a Burton player making the walk of shame made the situation a tad more bearable. Not a memorable afternoon for Stockers & Deji O....
But, we regrouped and Ben's goal was the icing on a slightly wobbly cake, bless his heart. It was good to hear others singing his praises as he's definitely one of our unsung heroes IMO. An honest, no frills guy who's popping up with his share of goals now in addition to his defending duties.
Numerous bookings for both team aside, it was a fairly even game overall but the best chances fell to the men in the red shirts for sure. I wouldn't say that we held on to the 3 points by our fingertips but grinding out a result was the phrase to describe the performance.
But, paramount, was the sight of 10 good men & true, giving their all for the cause despite the call ups for 2 first team regulars who will need to be at their best when the Pilgrims visit SE7 next weekend. Pre match, it was thought that Sean Clare might be deployed at the back & he fitted in there perfectly. As George Dobson has shown, we shouldn't be too quick to criticise those non regulars in this squad....JJ & JE have found the magic formula to get the best out of them all & have instilled pride & confidence in each & every one.
Finally, a special word for young Josh playing up front alone for the majority of the game. Mr F pointed out that he was starting to struggle when subbed which was understandable as he'd totally run his socks off, chasing down defenders, challenging their keeper & defending from the front. Well done, young man !
So, a BIG crowd and the presence of our owner next Saturday.
What a great opportunity to introduce our very own Jacko as permanent Manager on the pitch before kick off !
Come on, Thomas !
You KNOW it makes sense !
Onwards & upwards !
Just got home, tired but happy. You've summed up my thoughts better than I ever could Fanny. I'd would only add that well, how often has Pearcy been written off and he turns in that sort of Captain Courageous performance. And how many had written off Dobson and Clare by the end of August (yeh, step forward Six-a-bag you prick) Dobbo was here, there and every fking where today. And Sean Clare - what an athlete. I am really starting to like the cut of his jib I didn't really see the sending off incident, but I do feel that Stockers is on a bit of a mission to put it about and with Johnson having marked his card and Kettle on ref duty, maybe he needed to use a bit of savvy. Of course, maybe Deji Mark 1 was the instigator, but I don't recall him having any of that in his locker when he was our player. We earned these 3 points with heart and endeavour. Well done Jacko and the boys
Great result and I’m supportive of JJ getting the job full time but why would you need to do that now. He’s getting results as an interim - he’s not going to try any less if you keep him as an interim for a few more months. If I was TS I wouldn’t change anything right now
Made a late decision to go to Sunderland a few weeks back, thought we’d make a mini weekend of it in Burton this time round. Two fantastic away victories showing different qualities and coming out with the same result.
Got to say, standing on the terraces in and amongst the constant singing and fantastic atmosphere really felt like the Charlton we had under Powell and Bowyer. It’s no surprise Jacko played under Powell and was assistant manager/coach with Bowyer. He’s so far taken the good things from each and added it to his own style. Under Powell we would come away from home and grind out results by leadership, organisation and quality. Under Bowyer the players run through brick walls for each other, pressed high and had quality. In the 4 games since Jackson took charge just before Sunderland, we have shown each of those qualities mentioned. Yes, it’s only a start and we haven’t achieved anything yet, but he’s got to get the job. Even players past and present are speaking out in public about it.
Every player was very good in their own right. But I want to give a special mention to a certain Sean Clare. To come in and play right centre back against a physical and direct team, and not look out of place, but instead look impressive and assured, is a real credit to him.
Losing Stockley and Famewo for next week will be a big miss, Stockley of course for longer. But we should have Gunter, Matthews, Leko, and Washington all to come back into the squad/be available against Plymouth. Fingers crossed.
Is there a Stockley version of the red card incident, haven't seen one yet? Wondered if there was bad blood between the two of them from before? It's unusual for former team mates to get into it with each other like that. Great to see a performance like that from Pearce, he gets a lot of criticism on here, unfairly so in my opinion. COYR
I only saw the stream, but it definitely looked like Stockley was the aggressor after the initial tussle. But I’m sure I saw a good snack from Deji towards the end, before everyone joined in.
Based on what I think I saw, I have no problem with two reds, but I don’t think the linesman could see any of that, as it was largely obscured by their position, and I’m sure Kettle didn’t. I’m not sure what he based his decision on.
We started well. Burton gave us too much space and we delivered a lot of crosses. The "fight" probably caused us more harm than them.
Dobson effective. Lee's workrate was top class. Farmewo was classy but MOTM was Jason Pearce who won everything (and fell to the ground at the right times).
Davison tried but struggled. CBT is NOT a centre forward.
Burton are rank average.
We lose that game with Nigel in charge.
I think the CBT was put on to stop them pushing up too much with his pace and threat of getting in behind them. Seeing as we were winning, it was a sensible move,
Of course......let's put on a winger to do a strikers job just because he is fast.
Next we'll be putting Henderson in for the suspended Fameeo just because he is over 6ft.
if only NA got binned off after the Bolton game, could have been an extra win or two better off by now
Wycombe away was the watershed. He should have walked / resigned that evening. Who knows where we would be now.
Wasn't a terrible performance though, so that wasn't the right match really.
What ?? Not a terrible performance ?? Were you there ??
One of the worst this season - check out the player marks if you don't believe me. We were abject that day & only came alive once CBT came on with 10 mins to go & Wycombe took off their main striker & replaced him with a fridge freezer.
I loved every aspect of that performance, even though it didn’t feel like it in game. Everyone’s covered the main points already, but I particularly appreciated Dobson’s Josh Cullen impersonation, Sean Clare looking like he’s been playing in a back three for years, and Pearcey, well I can’t find the words, other than hats off, sir. And Jacko reducing Piggybank to pathetic finger pointing. And our away support accounting for 30% of the total crowd.
I was starting to worry about Stockley missing for Plymouth, but only after opening the thread I remembered Jon Leko should be fit. And in this formation I think Gunter can do a job alongside Pearcey. Of course he isnt Famewo, but its 11 against 11. And we beat them 6-0 at theirs just a few months ago.
I’m starting to believe. At my age I really should know better.
Of we beat Plymouth then I say give Jacko the job straight after.
Good performance. Scrappy game. Tired legs by the end. The reds seemed to stretch the game meaning Gilbey and Lee had trouble influencing the game.
Clare looked great. Can now see why Robinson was playing him in defence at Oxford. Worrying that he didn't want to play there. Could see him being first choice there, but still a concern defensively if DJ plays Infront of him. Could have been 1-1 soon after the break and DJ Was a spectator. Generally, it worked well down that side.
Scrappy and hard fought, Chris Powell-style, away win.
I was particularly impressd by DJ. I had him down as a luxury Jonny step-over type of player when he joined but he has defended well and delivered good crosses with both feet. You also feel he could cut inside and get a shot away too. Looks very classy to me and will improve with more confidence.
Means that Leko (when fit) could play up front with Josh or Washington which could be an exciting combinination and DJ can retain his place on the right.
Some excellent performances notably from DJ and Ben Purrington as wing backs Akin Famewo and Sean Clare but man of the match for me was Elliott Lee. Dobson again turned into Kante and has set his bar for performance really high now
I'm even happier we won as Kettle did his best to kill the game along with the linesmen and I just sound really bitter when I moan about referees costing us games. Hopefully now Stockley has had a red card referees stop penalising him, hopefully it gets overturned but I doubt it
What did the ref (not the lino) get wrong in this game?
Specifics please.
The way he handled the sending off. Being at the other of the ground and not watching the ruck from the off as I was following the ball but I could see Stockley swing and this was more than just the usual push and shove melee so a red card a piece was fair enough. But he handled it so poor. He sent off Stockley when Stockley was about 30 yards away and therefore allowed himself to be crowded by our players who appeared to get him to go back to the lino to get Deji sent off as well. Great for us to get it evened up but this is really poor officiating.
The booking of Famewo was a joke.
The handling of their player with a cut being off the pitch but he still held the game up.
Constant run of soft calls.
20 minutes for half time
The booking of their bloke for a dive. It wasn't a dive as their was contact but neither was it a pen, it was just hat happens in a contact sport
I've been very poorly since last Tuesday night, I've picked up a virus (not Covid) and been really struggling. I've been bedridden since Friday, but managed to listen to the game. It sounded as though we had the best of the first half, and defended for our lives in the second. Dobson has come really good in the last few games and his name was mentioned all game on the commentary, Clare can obviously play in a back 3 and what can you say about Lee! JJ has this team playing for each other with fight and passion, TS should make him perm before the Plymouth game and see how much that would help with 'fill The Valley'. I really hope to be there to cheer them on! Yesterday's win made me feel much better for an hour or so after the game, now I just need to fight this bug and be back on my feet before next Saturday.

Blackett Taylor was our best player up until recently and won't be costing us much as it stands.
I like him a lot. But we have the squad at its limit (JFC will replace Ronnie) and we are desperate for those 2 positions to be covered with the change in formation.
Blackett Taylor is out of contract then and Arter's loan I presume can be terminated. Cant see us getting anyone else out the door who is not in the team us getting the fee we need for them (e.g. Kirk) and the players won't go unless a contract is paid up.

A typical performance from Kettle
He added time on for the booking of Arter
He needed 5 minutes to caution Arter, why not just show a yellow card at him from yards away like he did throughout the game, would have taken him seconds

Need to get in a CH and another forward in the window. Could be Arter and Blackett Taylor have to be moved on to make room in the squad.
