Away support was excellent the whole game

Some excellent performances notably from DJ and Ben Purrington as wing backs Akin Famewo and Sean Clare but man of the match for me was Elliott Lee. Dobson again turned into Kante and has set his bar for performance really high now

I'm even happier we won as Kettle did his best to kill the game along with the linesmen and I just sound really bitter when I moan about referees costing us games. Hopefully now Stockley has had a red card referees stop penalising him, hopefully it gets overturned but I doubt it
No chance Stockley's red card will be over-turned looking at that footage. He's lashed out with his arm while the bloke is on the floor. These days, straight red all day long. In the old days, a talking to and maybe a booking....but Stockley isn't playing in the old days, so he should know better.

I've been very poorly since last Tuesday night, I've picked up a virus (not Covid) and been really struggling.
I've been bedridden since Friday, but managed to listen to the game. It sounded as though we had the best of the first half, and defended for our lives in the second.
Dobson has come really good in the last few games and his name was mentioned all game on the commentary, Clare can obviously play in a back 3 and what can you say about Lee!
JJ has this team playing for each other with fight and passion, TS should make him perm before the Plymouth game and see how much that would help with 'fill The Valley'.
I really hope to be there to cheer them on!
Yesterday's win made me feel much better for an hour or so after the game, now I just need to fight this bug and be back on my feet before next Saturday.

Wouldn’t say we defended for our lives second half, we kept our shape and limited them to half chances, I think Big Mac had to make one good save the whole game, that was probably the commentators making it sound more backs to the wall than it was. We were pretty comfortable most of the game. Hope you feel better soon.

Jesus....how poor was that Burton defending for our goal?! Not the slightest effort made to a) stop the short corner b) close the cross.
I noticed the same and poor marking too on Purrington. I'd be livid if I were JFH. The type of goal we were conceding earlier in the season.
  • Fantastic result yesterday and thankfully the turnaround continues!
Players that had been written off are stepping up and as usual Lee makes us tick, really hope he doesnt get called back to Luton in January.
The people who got slaughtered on here when it was said we would get 70+ points from the remaining games ince JJ took over are not looking so silly now, 3 points next week and off we go
  • Problem is we didn't have a midfielder to bring on for Gilbey when it's not clicking. Albie or Watson, well no more analysis needed.

Perhaps Clare when on the bench.

I hope Stockley takes these few games now to work out how he wants to approach games and the rest of the season. It was a definite red.We are usually hard done by and weak in our protesting to refs, so looks like we've learnt from Rotherham already :)

I agree entirely Simmo and I'm pretty hacked off with Stocks, as it's really bad timing.  Injuries are stacking up, as are accumulative yellow card suspensions. 3 tough league games coming up that he will miss. I really hope this stupidity doesn't halt our momentum.

Stocks also needs to be careful he doesn't become a marked man. Streaky johnson made some shameful comments about Stocks the other week. All this does is give that idiot credibility.

Fingers crossed Washington returns fit. Handy his game is tomorrow rather than later in the week.
  • Great result and well done boys and for all those who made the trip up there, gutted as i missed out but promised my daughter a helping hand 6 weeks ago and had to keep it.

Haven't seen any highlights yet but so disappointed in Stockley, he knows managers send their players out to wind him up and we now lose him for 3 games. particularly as its Plymouth next.

So assuming that Stockley and Famewo are suspended is this how we line up on the weekend?

    MacGillivray
    Gunter - Elerewe - Pearce
    Jaiyesimi - Lee - Dobson - Gilbey - Purrington
    Davison - Washington

    Or this:

    MacGillivray
    Clare - Pearce - Gunter
    Jaiyesimi - Lee - Dobson - Gilbey - Purrington
    Davison - Washington

Another option would be to put Blackett-Taylor in as we don't know the extent of Davison's limp... Injury or tired bop?

I think your 1st selection will be the starting team mate. That why Clare is free to come on later in midfield. Gunter can do the job required next week.
Hoping Gilbey has his shooting boots on as I think we may need a goal or 2 from midfield next week

Agree with the team but being Charlton, we don't know if Gunter/Washy will come back with a hammie from getting off the plane.

Selection wise from the players on paper, we have the numbers to play NA's 433! Good learning is that we've seen from 13 games what it yields on the pitch.

  • A post I put on the player ratings but was politely advised to plonk it here.

Is there any reason we let our players who get sent off (injuries are understandable) before 30 minutes a chance to have an early bath from the ratings? Stupidity and a 3 match ban deserves as much, if not more recognition <30 minutes than in the 90th minute.

    Post:
@lancashire lad Surely you should include Stockley on the player ratings?

By not doing so, it skews his overall end of season rating by blanking out a red card for an unnecessary ruck, 15 mins into a game?

    No
The rules of the statbank are that a player has to spend 30 minutes on the pitch to receive a mark. To change this then skews all comparisons with previous weeks/months/years.

Please keep this thread for marks, I do read the post match thread so put such queries there - thanks

If thems the rules then I think Stockley gets off lightly.
To show that sort of cavalier indiscipline and rob his manager and teammates of his services for 3 games shows a lack of intelligence or maybe a touch of arrogance.
    Player rating 3.
I think what pisses me off, notwithstanding he often gets a raw deal.from refs, is that this has been coming and plays into the hands of oppo managers like the odious Johnson
  • Potentially shows that 30 minutes is far too long for the threshold/cutoff of being able to rate a performance.

In theory, a striker could come off the bench, play 25 minutes, be the best player on the pitch by a mile, score a hat trick and not be eligible for a rating.

Understand how the rules have been and can’t change them now, that’s fair enough, but for a third of the game not to count towards an overall rating also massively skews the validity of the actual ratings.

I feel similarly. Even though Johnson blew the incident at Sunderland out of proportion, it was a stupid thing to do and he's overstepping the line. He barged the bloke in the chest at a corner really hard. Asking for trouble really. Technically, it could be argued, violent conduct. To then go on Charlton Live and play the poor me card and 'refs are going to mark me.' Ultimately he's a player of limited ability and needs to put it about to make up for that. But he's crossed the line recently.
  • We were way too ‘nice’ under Adkins, a major feature of our problematic results.
Stockley has always evidenced a ‘streak’ and he gets booked as much as Pratley used to, however it is a price we have paid (greater pugnaciousness) for improved results.
We have to deal with player loss through injuries and suspensions as best we can.
We can still put out 11 players against Plymouth even if it isn’t ideal.

Didn't Jacko say Burton may come just too soon for Burton? He may be available next Saturday?
    Eh

  • Wow, that shows that someone from that paper actually watches the games. Very well deserved both.

I'd like to think Dobson and Clare came close too.
The pair of them deserved to have their names sung.
Remember that old song "He's here, he's there, he's every fcuking where, Graham Moore, Graham Moore"?
It's a shame George Dobson's name doesn't scan as well in that one.
  • Just seen DJ's rainbow flick... absolute piss take 🤣

Agreed, I thought they were the standout players too

Sean Clare works perfectly for that song though, and with playing in multiple positions in the short time he’s been here, it could work.

Well, both names have three syllables. 🧐

    Different emphasis.
Try singing it. It  works after a fashion but not so well.
Now, if his name was Georgie Dobbs  :)
