Charlton travelled down to Fratton Park this evening before the proverbial January transfer window “slammed” shut. Our new signings were not available and young Mason Burstow didn’t travel as he’s subject to a potential transfer to west London.
For the first fifteen minutes the momentum shifted back and forth. Our back three likes to live on the edge and gifted Pompey some clear chances which they couldn’t finish. They looked devoid of confidence, as much as we often to. On twenty minutes we grew into the match, slicing through Portsmouth seemingly at will. Corey Blackett-Taylor’s mazey run, almost the length of the pitch, resulted in a rocket of a shot that just swerved the wrong side of the left post. Aneke then skidded a ball of the crossbar and Morgan had his own long range blast swerve outside the same upright. It wasn’t long until we broke through and Washington found the back of the net. Portsmouth looked even more devoid of ideas; it wasn’t until the 65 minute that they had a shot on target. Our second goal came from a sustained bout of pressure. They’re centre back headed the ball past his own keeper under pressure from Washington.
Portsmouth made some changes and managed to shift the momentum a little. They found the back of the net with twenty minutes remaining, putting us under a bit of pressure to stop the comeback.
We played the better football tonight, but with a bit more luck, Portsmouth could have found themselves on level terms. Thankfully, we did enough to see them off and take all three points.

Based on recent performances away from home, and given the timing... I hope thats partly down to Terry Skiverton incoming and offering his experience, rather than just a bit of a lucky win away from home where we usually win anyway.
The players all put a shift in for the shirt tonight and looked a team playing for each other
CBT is a menace was lethal tonight.
Morgan I'm usually his biggest critic, but was superb showing positive signs.
Clare solid as was Innis.
I did think Gilbey was very poor tho.
But a great night overall
However, we did more than enough to have put this game well out of sight by then.
Proper team performance tonight, with nobody hiding or not putting in a shift. Well done to all and a special mention to the 1200 who made so much noise throughout.
I will now teleport back to Sydney from the Philippines...good coverage from Charlton TV
Shouldn’t have been so nervy at the end but a solid 3 points which we should back up on Saturday
Clare MOTM
Clare was outstanding
