Better performance. Actully played some nice stuff at times. After the opening 10 mins I didnt see that coming, we looked shaky at the back and vulnerable down both flanks.
Ultimately, we arent a great team, so if you are going to win games the work rate has to be spot on. For whatever reason that has been lacking in recent weeks, was definitely back tonight.
Clare was superb and my MOM. Looked like an absolute Rolls Royce of a player tonight. Best game I have seen CBT have for us and had that first half shot gone in, he may now be the holder of our best goal ever title!
Still concerns me how fragile we looked after Innis went off. Hopefully Lavelle isn't far off. Innis was limping when he left the field so who knows whethe he is gong to miss games again.
Chuks started slowly but was a real handful over all. What was he playing at at the end though? You can't be putting an arm on the Ref. Pretty sure he has been booked for stupid petualant reactions in all 3 games since he has been back.
If only Gilbey's ball skills were as good as his engine? Bloke never stops running.
Wil be interested to see where Fraser fits as I doubt he has come to sit on the bench, assume it will be for Glbey.
Very strange that neither of the other loan signings were even on the bench?
Overall a deserved win, but missed chances ended up making it far harder work than it should have been.
And bloody hell, Jackson did not look well at all! Assume he had a Covid test beforehand!!!

I imagine Fraser will take Albie's place.
A few weeks ago yes … now I’m not so sure … however Gilbey Dobson and Fraser looks good
A curious game, in that Pompey started well and should have scored early, but we got back into the game got a lucky goal, and then dominated the next 45 minutes, until Pompey's subs turned things round, and made the ending really tense.
Clare my MOTM, excellent at both ends of the pitch. Morgan, Dobson, Matthews, CBT all played well also. Chuks was a handful, but he REALLY needs to stop acting like an arsehole on the pitch, the ref could easily have sent him off and cost us a 3 match ban
Craig played well in front of his former home fans BUT will be disappointed with the goal he conceded in front of the Fratton End.
Any news on Innis? Quickly taken off in the second half. Hope nothing is wrong with him.
Thought it was mentioned that he was feeling his hamstring and was taken off as a precaution. More concerned about Aneke as it looked as though he limped off. And do we know what has happened to Lavelle?

Yeah Albie was decent tonight overall so deserves to keep his place for now. Extra competition for places can only be healthy and will hopefully let us make subs that can positively influence games for once.
Managed to get to a Portsmouth TV, sorry I mean Sky connected TV after we went ahead🙂
Entertaining match that we deserved to win.
Dobson looked class, very influential.
Morgan showed enough about him that answered his critics tonight. Of course he wasn't perfect but he played his part.
Clare was working hard to very good effect.
CBT was scaring the life out of their defence and the best I've seen him play for us.
Chuks was causing problems as usual. It must have been very frustrating for him that the officials almost never protected him from the incessant shirt pulling and I'm sure this contributed to his silly behaviour that led to his booking and substitution.
As for our disallowed goal, does anyone know what the issue was? There was no replay or discussion about it and I clearly missed it.
Any news on Innis? Quickly taken off in the second half. Hope nothing is wrong with him.
He looked completely shattered so hopefully it was just precautionary as tonight proved just how important he is. That tackle in the second half was Balloon d'Or worthy and we absolutely and predictably collapsed when Pearce came on.
Bell still ringing through CBT and Washington's interview
Thought he'd passed away tbh
I thought he'd moved thousands of miles away but maybe I'm confusing him with Collingwood FC's Joffa, who is another prize pillock.
Joffa turned up for a couple of the early Melbourne Heart (City)games then was never seen again. Probably got confused by the skill and science of the 'beautiful game' compared to the village green football ,that is Aussie Rules
Ashamed how little I've seen of Charlton this season and I was expecting the worst tonight - however, I thought we were excellent for the majority of the game - solid in defence and very dangerous breaking forward.
With more composure and better decision making, we'd have won more comfortably.
There is the basis of a decent team there if we could ever keep our key players fit for long enough.
Special mention to Clare and Dobson - proper team players.
Having said all that, Pompey were toilet and looked exactly like us when we concede the 1st goal.
Having seen my first 2 matches on Charlton T V and being rather nonplussed (particularly the Gateshead Clash) in the P J Cup. Then listening to Audio link up where we dominated for an estimated 75%-80% according to the commentators i can only think of Murphys Law. I thought to 2 commentators were very good, and liked the sporting, minutes clapping for a 'passed on', 47 yo Pompey fan. Hearing Claire mentioned numerous times, made me think how C L, respondents rubbish him ,so much, My memories of Charlton V Pompey -I went to Fratten Park in the early 60s.My first and only time. Score 2-2 Our mid field--- Brian Tocknell, Marvin Hinton and Mike Bailey. The best M F in div 2 by a country mile, and probably better than some in Div 1. We just missed promotion that year ,and by memory Eddie Firmani had just returned from Italy for his last few matches. He didn't score though
Clare and Dobson, and as a result, Gallen were getting ripped a new one after 2-3 games saying recruitment is terrible. It’s not. They know what their doing and combine that with McG, Famewo, Aneke, Fraser and Stockley, we’re starting to recruit some serious talent in this league.
One of our better performances this season & deservedly came away with all 3 points. Clare was my MOTM with CBT a close second with probably his best match since Gills away. Gilbey made some decent runs with the ball & Matthews showed that wing backs needn't be 20 year old Premiership loanees. All in all a good Sky viewing experience, which hasn't been said for a while.
I thought both Innis & Aneke were subbed as a precaution - Innis after the great tackle to avoid their player scoring & Aneke to stop him getting sent off (as well as not being able to play sat/sat/sat 😄).
WOW - The Sky coverage after the game, just shocking - Briefly chat with CBT and Washington - Then quick back to Deadline Day, when its being covered on another bloody channel
Think you switched off too early then. There was an interview with Jacko and Cowley too then McAnuff said some nice things about us.
A shaky first 10 or 15 minutes during which we could easily have conceded but, thereafter, we took control of the game in midfield, with Morgan - in particular - and Dobson very impressive. There was an almost uncharacteristic calmness to our play, although Portsmouth were poor out of (as well as in) possession and afforded us an awful lot of time and space in the middle of the park.
Blackett-Taylor terrified Pompey with his electric pace and nearly scored the goal of the season after running practically the length of the pitch. Our half time lead was well deserved, even if Chuks was blatantly offside, although when Gilbey missed a gilt-edged chance to make it 2-0, the fear was that we’d live to regret it.
In the event, Portsmouth produced no meaningful reaction after the break, lacking both any creativity in midfield and any penetration up front. We made it 2-0 after a lovely overlap and cross from Clare and that appeared to be that until Pompey pulled a goal back late on, totally out of the blue. With Inniss off and Jacobs and Curtis livening up the home side, we had to endure a nervous last 10 minutes or so, plus 6 of injury time but thankfully saw it out for a vital 3 points. We had a couple of scares although could easily have scored a third goal to make the game safe, with Chuks having a goal disallowed and Washington slashing a good chance wide.
We’re now 8 points clear of Morecambe in the last relegation slot and a win on Saturday at Wimbledon should more or less banish any residual concerns, even with two tough away games next week.
I thought Pompey looked pretty bovine in their approach and I can see why they’ve struggled to score goals. On the basis of that performance and recent form, I think the Cowleys’ days are numbered.
We defended very well for the greater part of the game and Clare was particularly impressive in his athleticism, his reading of the game defensively and his decisive foray forward and cross from the right for our winner. Inniss has real presence at both ends of the pitch and is a major headache for opponents at set plays, including long throws. Mathews had a very solid game on the right and Blackett-Taylor was a revelation on the left. The final ball might not always be there but it’s refreshing to see a Charlton player with the confidence to take on defenders and try and make things happen.
In midfield, Dobson hunted the ball down extremely well as usual and moved it around nicely. Morgan was very impressive with his range of passing and general endeavour. Whilst his tackling is not (and will never be) the best, his level of fitness and ability to anticipate and intercept the ball were impressive. Gilbey had an unhappy evening, miscontrolling the ball and turning over possession a couple of times early on and then failing to capitalise on a couple of opportunities. A shame, because he make a lot of intelligent late runs into the box and just seems to be lacking the confidence to apply the finishing touch.
Up top, Chuks had a very quiet start to the game but grew into it and had a good second half, other than his moment of madness in barging into the ref (just as well Kettle wasn’t in charge). Wahington’s movement and endeavour was good as usual and he showed good anticipation for his goal. His poor effort near the end did, however, illustrate his limitations and why he’s never scored more than 12 goals in a season.
Overall, a very good team performance and a just reward for the travelling faithful, whose support sounded excellent on the telly. Many would have been reliant upon the vagaries of SouthWestern Railways and I hope the train they put on after the earlier cancellation of the last direct service post-match materialised. A big result and one we will hopefully build upon on Saturday before a couple of testing trips up to the north west.
Bit a of a scrappy opening 10/15 minutes from both sides, then the next 50 odd was Caretaker Jacko level of performance, last 20 was "typical Charlton" territory.
A very good away win and a much needed 3 points for confidence and to pull away from the danger of relegation. Still won't get carried away and declare it a new (third) dawn.
Special mention for our offside goal, nice to get one given for a change!
Their openings seemed to mainly come when CBT was caught on the wrong side tracking his man. That's something we need to work on as a team when he's bombing forward.
In a way it suits us having the more defensive of our wing backs on the right, so Clare has more license to surprise them going forward.
Everything has been said but just wanted to add that i thought the team played as a team and run themselves into the ground, it was a pleasure to watch, well done to the team and the amazing travelling fans!!

@cafc4life kindly pointed out that I was watching on the "wrong" channel
I had Sky Sports Main Event on, whereas I guess you all had Sky Sports Football on
Managed to switch over just in time for the Jackson interview
Think Clare will get MOTM this week. Superb performance defensively and a brilliant assist. As someone said earlier, a Rolls Royce of a player who's improving as the season progresses. Thoroughly enjoyable match to watch, apart from the last ten minutes. We lost our composure, and Portsmouth gained some self belief and energy from somewhere. I fear that Inniss going off was at least 50% responsible for the panic stations, so let's hope he's ok for Saturday. He really adds so much at both ends of the pitch. Chuks needs to see a top sports psychologist asap - he so easy to wind up, which is a real Achilles heel for a forward. He was good otherwise. Morrell needs a retrospective second yellow for going round slapping our players all over the shop. Right in front of the ref as well. Dobbo was great again despite mistiming a couple of challenges slightly. The fact that he doesn't get more yellows is a testament to what a great tackler he is. Really need to hang on to him in the summer. CBT seems to be growing in confidence, and it's great to see a forward not being afraid to shoot. If that long range effort had swerved a little less we might have received last minute Prem interest ;-) The only way to stop him is to put two players on him, and in the second half they sometimes had three. It was great to have that two goal cushion, but we should really have made it three. Albie I'd written off completely a few weeks ago, but now wouldn't be unhappy if we kept him as a squad player at least. He's certainly been getting more involved over the last few matches, and his free kicks and corners are a step up from Lee's. Gilbey is such a frustrating player. Looks quite elegant, but his control and passing keep letting him down. Again, fine as a squad player, for me. I'm quite excited to see what the new signings will offer over the next few weeks. Bring on Wimbledon! (Will Burstowe play?) I hope we might get a decent crowd for that one, and a win (and other results going in our favour) might *almost* rekindle hopes of a late push for the playoffs, something I'd written off completely after the Crewe match. We're 13 points behind Karl Robinson's Oxford though, so it still seems massively unlikely. Even so, a higher finish will only help us attract quality players in the summer, when we can make use of the munificent funds received from Chelsea.

Extra special mention to Inniss for that tackle.
When they scored it was 100% against the run of play, as mentioned by the commentators. There were ten minutes left at that point. Not sure where they found the six minutes of injury time. And we did lose our composure when we should have been playing keep ball. Should really have hit them on the break during that period though, although we were a bit leggy by then.
Comments
I imagine Fraser will take Albie's place.
He acknowledged the offside goal, but didn't whinge for 5 minutes about officials not doing their job properly and "killing us"
