  • I wonder what 1st team coach Terry Skiverton has been doing with the team?
  • Must admit I tried playing full backs in the centre back roles of a 3 once at Fifa, got the same result. Positionally all over the place. JJ should have asked me first.
  • Matthews
    Purrington
    Clare
    DJ
    Leko

All the above can be said to be playing out of position (I know about Clare, but just to make a point). That's nearly half a team. At some point it begins to show and it has.

What is Clare's position though? He's looked pretty ordinary in midfield. Possibly a right back or right wing back?
  • Another wanky crossbar challenge as well , pathetic .. £6.5k and it didn't get more than a foot off the ground .
We've got some real pony footballers and some real pony footballing fans

Over to you eh @oohaahmortimer, get ya boots on and show us how it's done... B)
  • The strange thing is that you can get somebody else to do it for you. For £6.5k you would think you would put some effort into it.

I know Davison isn’t great yet but it’s a nonsense that we let him go on loan.

Also, unpopular opinion, but why did we re-sign Aneke for so much money, knowing that he’s likely to be regularly injured.  Surely there were better options from cash strapped clubs for less money ?
Aneke scored 15 goals in his cameo appearances for us last season so not surprising we took a punt when he became available. what is surprising is the 3& a half year contract. No wonder he was so keen to return.
Not if he scores 15+ goals in each of the next three seasons! He was an utter beast last season (look back at some of the goals he scored) and the prospect of him, Stockley and Washington as our three first choice strikers at the start of next season is a good one is it not?

Not really. Chuks isn’t able to to start many games & Washington isn’t good enough to be starting for a team with aspirations of promotion - if we can find a Lyle Taylor/BWP equivalent I’d be happy for him to be 4th choice, but nothing more.
  • Jacko Has to do what Chris Powell did. He needs stability at the club to entice the players we need to come here. We already have some good players and like Powell he probably has to be a bit ruthless too. Maybe Powell could do a bit of mentoring and consultancy. Not in terms of identifying players but talking through what needs doing. I think we forget how extreme it was and he did it early so the morale was built through the Summer.
The difference is Powell had played with Morrison and Yann so knew they were undervalued by their clubs.  Ben Roberts had worked with Hammer before.  Powell had played against Hollands, Wiggins and Stephens in the previous 18 months.

How many non Charlton first team games have Jackson and Euell watched in the last 2 years?

Its asking a lot for Jackson to be able to pull that off.  Even if you exclude the kids and irrelevances in the "summer of Powell" your still looking at about 10-12 players.

I know Saturday was as bad as it gets and I have pretty much avoided here and social media since but, now I’m catching up with it the cold light of day, I reckon people definitely need to lighten up a bit! No one died for crying out loud! And as for people moaning that they had to pay a tenner or that they left a game early for the first time ever-get a grip! I spend £100s every month on Charlton and leave loads of games early (as do loads of others on here!) including leaving the game on Saturday when Clare got sent off.  Maybe it comes with having 37 years experience of lots of disappointment but I’m still managing at least six hours uninterrupted sleep every night without too many tears.

Let’s try to be positive everyone - we’ll get some players back soon, Nile John and Juan Castillo are 100% going to come good (you heard it here first), we’ll pick up a couple of wins and then everyone can revert to wearing their normal pants again.

    Up the Addicks!!!
Don't know why but this post has really wound me up
  • Actually I do know why, it's patronising bollocks

I’m not sure how you get a go .. is it valley gold , I’m in that …. I’ll get it in the air and it will threaten the bar,  at least,  before missing but most of these recent attempts are by punters who have clearly never played football … appalling
  • Or I’ll let my nephew have a go who is better than me … either way , you got to give yourself a chance !

I would have thought our players are exempt from this

Sorry you feel that way - please be aware that it was all pretty tongue in cheek and I certainly don't want to wind people up any more than they already are.

I was as wound up and pissed off as anyone during the game on Saturday hence leaving early and avoiding the internet.

However, I just don't think that things are necessarily as bad as they seem and you only need to go back to the comments 10 games ago when everything was rosy in the world and Elliott Lee was the best thing since sliced bread. We are only a few games away from things changing - we have decent players coming back, hopefully the manager that a lot of us want and as long as we avoid relegation this season and have a decent rebuild / clear out in the summer, the longer term prospects look okay to me.....
  • 16th in League One isn't normal fucking pants
  • Getting absolutely destroyed at home by Oxford (and likely MK Dons tomorrow) is pants made out of cellophane and clown horns

Sorry mate, reads much better now I know it's tongue in cheek.

In complete agreement with you on the last bit
  • So glad I happened to come across TS's in depth analysis of the Oxford result.

Made me feel so much better for Tuesday's disemboweling...

  • Crewe have lost their last 6 games. Of course, we managed to lose to them! Supporters reaction from the Oxford game has been brewing...
  • Saturday's problems started with Jacko
Selecting 1 specialist CH, when 2 others were fit enough for the bench is patently questionable.  Is Deji Elerewe unfit?
Leaving Innis on the field when he'd clearly broken down was moronic.  Leaving him on as he became a pathetic liability was Duchatelet level stupid.

Matthews stank the place up from the start - stayed on the pitch.

Conceding goals to decent bits of attacking play is the occupational hazard.
Your goalie letting one through his legs is dismal.  He couldn't catch a cold, was beaten twice from distance but bizarrely makes excellent point blank instinctive stops - does he need his eyes testing?

Leko and Gilbey didn't try a leg from the 5th minute to half-time - unforgivable.

A halftime rethink was needed - the one we got was preposterous.  Burstow yes but DJ off?  For pity's sake, that was Karel Fraeye level random.
To rubberstamp Jacko's miserable failure of an afternoon he took Leko off the minute after he had actually contributed
Sean Clare's twattery came too late to make much difference but was no less reprehensible.

Everybody will have to be 100 times better tomorrow, starting with not selecting drastically unfit players and not jamming square pegs in so many big round holes.
  • Wasn't DJ already on a yellow by that point? Not Karel Fraeye random, but making sure we didn't lose him to a second yellow and end up going down to ten men. Although Clare seeing the red mist made that somewhat academic.

What we were doing this weekend 21 years ago https://www.premierleague.com/match/3934

10th in the Premier league, and out of all of the clubs that have fallen on hard times from that Division, we are currently the lowest on the football ladder.

Other players had also been booked by that stage as well though, Leko and Purrington

And you don't sub a booked player unless they keep making fouls and it's only a matter of time, e.g. Pearce a couple of games ago
  • DJ had made a foul after he was booked, and he did go down quite easily right at the end of the half. But we had about 7 or 8 worse performers, yes
