Post-Match Thread: Barnsley vs Charlton Athletic | Saturday 24th September 2022 - 3pm

The second half was similar to the first. But Barnsley scored two this period. So, really it was worse! Charlton’s second half was laboured and poor, but after a slew(sp?) of substitutions, Payne scored a consolation goal. We showcased some comedic defending at times to cap off a bad day. We’re really not very good at either end.
Barnsley 3 Charlton 1
Over to you.

Garner out.
Protests against TS.
Nothing else to suggest2 -
Garnerball is ineffective and needs to change, we just don't have the players for it. Stockley although hopeless so far this season can score goals at this level.
Long season ahead, expect Garner will be gone before Xmas the way its going1 -
We’re on our way to break even so nothing to worry about 🙄39

Brownie ripping into us and rightly so11

2 wins in 10 and 16th in League One just above the relegation zone.
We kidded ourselves our team/ squad is an improvement on last year. It’s not. Or Garner is not as good a manager as Jackson.
An owner insisting on a style of play but not investing in the players to deliver it. We’ve signed a bunch of cheap and lower league players and it shows. You get what you pay for (or don’t in our case).
Feel sorry for the manager and the players as neither are good enough to overcome the set up to fail framework Sandgaard has put in place.
The sooner he sells up to someone who has the nous to get football people in to run the club and/or can back up words with actions the better. Heading to the lower leagues on and off the pitch under his stewardship. He’s clueless and it shows and we’re only going in one direction under him.
Grim.

Trying to think of another game where a losing manager has took his 5 best players off1
-
Yes, we lost 3-1, but think of the Xg!1

If I was Garner I would out TS in the hope I would get the sack to get me out of this shit show of a club.6

We controlled large periods of the game, but we're so poor in the final third & the defending was woeful.

Any suggestions on what manager/coach [mad enough to come to us] might get more out of our squad?
Bowyer is an obvious starter for 10.9 -
I don't blame Garner.
He clearly wanted to get a striker who would fit the system and another left back, he mentioned both specifically.
TS didn't back him, we look short of goals and have players being played out of position at LB.
Funny that.42 -
Garner: "I'm not blaming anyone but myself."
Fair play, but taking the blame is only one part of the equation. The next is analyzing what went wrong and improving it.
I don't think Garner is the biggest problem here, I think he's a bright young coach, but he does need to do better with things like defensive shape in our own third, defending in transition, and working on the final ball matching runners into the box.10 -
Players should be ashamed of that performance. Sandgaard and Garner both clueless. Another season over before it's started, save for the possible thrill of a relegation battle or a pizza cup run.3

Ben Garner “they (Barnsley) were boooed off at ht”
more evidence for my boooing works theory

Garner getting some stick on the match thread and I must admit I'm not totally convinced by him.
But

Asking Garner to challenge for promotion with this group of players is like asking Lewis Hamilton to win a grand prix race in a Ford Capri.
Only on person to blame for how this season is playing out and that's Sandgaard for not giving Garner the players he needs.30 -
Utter 💩2

Can almost hear that Garner doesn't really believe what he's saying here.0

No decent players, no shop, no staff, no hope.4

4-3-3 didn't work under Adkins and isn't working now
big test for the manager now, will he change things or will he stick with it. Unfortunately I think he wont try anything different and have the BristolRovers Garner rather than the Swindon Garner3 -

It’s going the same way it has in the past every time we get a manager intending to play attractive football. Starts well, loses effectiveness and then falls apart.
Where do we go from here? We’d be in the playoffs if we could take more chances, but we’ll be in a relegation battle if we don’t improve.7 -

‘Stockley don’t like it,
Hitting the target, hitting the target (interchangeable with Corey and Rak-Sakyi because I don’t think Stockley even has shots any more)

Garner is our fourth manager in less than two years. I think he's the brightest and seems the most highly regarded within the game. Changing him now won't make things better.13 -
Garner will be the next fall guy/excuse, but we all know what/who the problem is. Sell up.

Stockley should not start the next game, all he does is blame others. He didn't win a fucking header. I hate watching him. Yes the rest of the team isn't great but he is massively at fault. Worst player at the club.5
