Morata booked for his celebration and he's another one missing out on the semi final
    What a twat.
  • Well that's Spain fucked for the semi then.

  • Germany: Right party is over, f**k off home the lot of you
  • No reset of yellow cards until after the QF is quite harsh. That's 5 games to avoid a second yellow
  • Few more beautiful sights than disappointed German footballers.
  • That was entertaining
  • Seven Spanish yellow cards in that match. Pedri injured. Going to be heavily rotated team for the semi final…

This might be working out in France’s favour…

    France eh
  • What a day of high quality football though… rematch of the 2008 final followed by a rematch of the 2016 final…

Late in the game, Dembele and Coman on as subs, running at Pepe the Pensioner
  • Does the red card still count as a one match ban for Spain? - Seeing it was just the standard, two yellow cards

Or will he potentially miss the final seeing he was already on a booking?

Should stack up and miss both but it doesn't. Essentially a free booking to help kill the game in the last seconds
  • Wright telling Morata to calm down 😂

Will we be left with Spain vs Netherlands in the Final then, repeat of the 2010 World Cup Final

If not England, I would like the Dutch to do it… good fans and they’d enjoy it even more on German soil.
  • As an aside, how have we managed to get 2 referees into the quarter finals?
  • edited July 5
Daniele Orsato the ref for England v Switzerland tomorrow.

Orsato was in charge of our game against Serbia as well as the opening game in 2021 against Croatia. Both were 1-0 wins to England.

He is due to retire after Euro 2024 so it might be his last game as a pro ref.

Wasnt the worst referee in the world for that Serbia clash - Just let them get away with fouling a bit too long.

They'd need about 30 mins added on for fake injuries!

Would there be anyone to lift the trophy?
  • Bruno misses the free kick, so Ronaldo gets to take the next 20.

That's a handball from most of the refs at this tournament, far enough away from Musiala and hand isn't right next to his body
Cucurella’s arm was right in the grey area of “making his body unnaturally bigger”  BUT was bringing his arm into his torso, not away from. With the current rules that’s saved Cucurella there…
Bizarre rule isn't it. Leaves far too much up to interpretation
Agree, it does seem unfair that for instance Denmark conceded a penalty to Germany but Germany didn’t get this one against Spain.

Unfortunately I don’t know how you remove the subjectivity of what is and isn’t deliberate handball without significantly changing the rules. The problem is that the punishment of a penalty is often way too harsh for what actually happened.

One suggestion has been to look at making all instances of ball to hand across the pitch (deliberate or not) a handball offence, awarding indirect free kicks instead of penalties when it occurs in the penalty area.

That way you can be more black and white about saying “ok ball hit the arm here, free kick” without worrying about over punishing defenders for a cross brushing their hand on the way through etc…

One extra piece, you could say only handballs inside the six yard box are penalties, that ensures you still stop defenders from using their hands on the line etc.
