  • Most exciting piece of football theatre since Wembley. Yeah wow

When was the last time we scored a last minute/stoppage time goal that counted for something? Obviously we got one at Accrington but conceded immediately after.

Was it Cullen away at West Brom?
Bonne vs Wigan but it was behind closed doors

Saiid in the Match thread: ‘Aneke and CBT coming on in the 2nd half could be key, so long as we’re not a couple of goals down by then.’
Well they came on when we were a couple down, and it was a just couple of minutes before they combined to create our first.
From that moment on the atmosphere was electric. It shut the Tractor Boys up a bit, and the second silenced them completely.
Their third was a neat turn and shot but Lavelle could have done better.
    Couple of points::
Thought Thomas had an excellent first half. He’s very good on the ball, and looked solid, apart from the shank into the crowd. Couldn’t see him so well in the second half from the Covered End, and missed his goal too. Great for him to score on his debut start though.
Dobson and Fraser were immense all game.
Rak Sakyi doesn’t get enough of the ball when playing centrally.
Aneke makes us a much better side as soon as he comes on. He wins more in the air than you think he might and he’s so strong. Skilful too. I think he nutmegged the full back when setting up our first.
Wollocott hasn’t got great reach when trying to stop shots. It’s almost like he’s 5’9” tall.
If Egbo and O’Connell are out for any significant period we’re in trouble.
The team showed great spirit today. 👍

I actually thought against MK Dons when he moved into the middle, before the penalty and it all went wrong, he started to pick up pockets of space and receive the ball to feet well.

So I’d still be tempted to play him there against a team who sits back. But not against an Ipswich who press and shut off the passer before he can look to pick that pass.

That's what used to be called a 'Grandstand finish'.

    Only on the BBC.
    No Golfie, back in the 60s and 70s when late fightbacks were something we specialised in ........  it's what we in the crowd at The Valley would call it;
what the newspaper sports pages called it. 'Grandstand finish' was what it was known as.

I thought you would have known that. You're not just another Jonny-come-lately are you?

I was referring to the BBC sports programme than was on Saturday afternoons for about 40 years, but probably before your time 😅😅

Garner not holding back in his criticism of the ref.
Good on him. The referees need holding to account. Absolutely shocking
I dont disagree, love his passion, but he does need to be careful. He is going to get a touchline ban   but this may be extended as he was refusing to leave the pitch and may  have it extended for coming onto the pitch after goal 4

Dobbo captain seems entirely the right thing to do
And take it away from Captain Fantasic Stockley?
  • Ha ha, amazing, he won’t have a voice for the podcast recording now.

Keith Peacock with a 92nd minute equaliser for 10-man Charlton v League leaders QPR. Result 3-3 ....... erm, in 1968.

  • I think what that second half showed is how much we just need to simplify things in the final third. Aneke obviously makes a huge difference but you can’t tell me Stockley, however poor his form has been, wouldn’t be more of a threat with a few more balls into the box like we put in second half. We have to find that way to transition from patient build up to being quicker and more direct once we’re within 40 yards of goal.

Worried about the defence with O’Connell and Innis missing, and Wollacott seems to have caught Charltongoalkeeperitis whe it comes to stopping long shots, but we’ll park that for now.

What a game and great belief and determination to get back into it twice.

So great for Dobbo to be the one who got the winner.
    We didn’t win, alas.
  • I think I pulled a chest muscle.

I don't think so, Golfie. No doubt you're younger than me. Everybody else is!

By the way, who else was up at Portman Road that time we drew 4-4 there? I'm sure the scoring went the same way then too ...... 0-2 down, back to 2-2, 2-4 down and then 4-4 right at the death. I'm sure we got a late penalty - Tommy Caton?

Or have I imagined all that?
    You are correct,
I was there and I remember it well.
