Holden seemed a good bloke so wish him well for the future and I'm sure he'll succeed somewhere
We either get a manager who just wants a gig and doesn't really give a shit or an idiot who genuinely thinks they can turn the club around, in which case I wouldn't trust them to manage the tea.
Every time we dump a manager we get a little fantasy: Curbs! Powell! then, weirdly, Wilder! Who seems to have become proper Charlton despite never having had anything to do with the club other than a "no thanks" a few years ago.

Well one thing is clear, in this set up the manager has absolutely zero input in terms of signings.
I don’t think Holden has had a good couple of weeks at all, but I also think he has been supported and now treated incredibly shabbily.Fascinated what the next appointment will be. Best man for the job or the football equivalent of the masons?24 -

Whatever way you twist it, sacking a manager only 5 games into the season is showing how shambolic the club is run from the very top.

Anyone remember when Charlton was synonymous with 'well-run, progressive club', the poster-club for sustainable growth? Yeah, I get that was 20 years ago, but we are a true basket case now. I'll give these owners one chance to get this right, but if we don't complete the squad this week and get in a manager with some credibility in the same time frame, it's another season down the pan.19

Play the kids so we can sell them. Like it or lump it.

All these calls for Powell, Curbishley and Bowyer.
Why stop there? Lennie? Steve Gritt? How about Robinson, he's done alright since us? Or Garner? Or how about the great days under Riga? Bob Peeters?19 -

His wife was already working down here I believe.1 -
Crikey. Was only a month ago we was going into the season more positive than many of the previous seasons and predicting top 6 finishes (me included). I thought this season would be different and exciting.
5 games in and we are once again a fcking shambles of a club. Never change Charlton. Never change.8 -
What’s the point of talking about a new manager, they’ll be gone by Jan5
-
Does this mean no more player signings this transfer window as we do not have a manager.
Also a new one would expect a budget for players he can have say over.
This is just such a mess.1 - Sponsored links:

I think players will still sign without a manager, although if we’re competing with other clubs you’d be concerned. Ultimately though players will join us, we signed Gilbey and Washington when the clubs existence was under threat.0

I think Alfies long throws might have made the decision.1

I feel sure this has been terribly upsetting for Dean Holden.
This is not a black and white situation. Yes the results have been terrible, but apart from Newport we have not lost by shedloads of goals. We have missed crucial players with injuries, and at times played well. Holden has even tried to be reactive and attempt to tackle (unsuccessfully) problematic situations.
I do think he is a little bit naïve, and would probably only create teams that punch about their weight so he needed good players. Maybe Holden was actually too sweet a guy for the job that needed to be done.
I wish him the best and will remember him more fondly that many others.
Good luck Dean Holden, real shame it hasn't worked out.58 -
We wont be settled on the pitch - Until we have a settled Manager... This merry go round is fucking ridiculous, how do we build something with this approach?4

We'll smash division 4, and tickets will be cheaper.
We need to concentrate on building in January for our 2025 promotion push.1 -
Jack Ross possible as well as Lee Johnson perhaps?0

Personally, I think we threw away the games v Newport, Bristol R & Port Vale & a point v Oxford due to the manager/coach.
