I wonder if other teams fans go into meltdown when we make a bid for one of their players?3

Like you and everyone else I hope he proves to be a great success.
But it's too early to say I have total faith.
If May leaves he better have a good replacement lined up.6 -

#Millwall have agreed a deal with #cafc for centre-back Alex Mitchell. Personal terms not an issue.Permanent transfer.Edging closer.6 -
Really happy with Alex Mitchell. Feel like that's the type of centre back we have been missing.
Just a shame around the uncertainty with Alf12 -
Would the Mitchell signing be a replacement for Jones the defender, or Hector / Thomas?0

Found this from a Lincoln fan on Mitchell & echoed by others: "We would be very sad to see Mitchell rock up anywhere other than at Lincoln in League One. Became a fans favourite with his attitude and commitment, let alone his defensive performances for us. Not just down to him but a good reason we had one of the best defensive stats for goals conceded last season. IMO a top player."
Think that extra commitment and desire is part of what we've been missing at CB. We've had players who switch on and off throughout games. A proper 100% battling defender could be one of the upgrades we need.21 -

Given Jones was in talks to take over that lot not a surprise to see us buying Mitchell, you’d imagine he’d assessed their squad in depth. Lincoln fans seem positive so I’m optimistic

told of of any bids made as far as he concerned he will
be a Charlton player come start of season , and he does not want to uproot his family again now there settled and happy ..

The whole business plan for these investors, or any tbh, only works if we get out of L1 asap. You only sell May, imo, if overall the money enables you to buy other key players that brings that closer than having a 20 goal plus striker. If they sell him for cash as they see it as value, that’s a mistake imo as a false economy if it reduces the chance of promotion, they will lose more in the long term with an extended stay at this level than the make from the sale.
Although the ideal is keep him and get other key players in but have to balance that with some realism. So I’d be ok with if the sale enabled bringing in already identified players that notably upgrade the team. Not if an opportunist sale to turn a short term profit.I hope and believe NJ wouldn’t be here if the latter were the approach, so will trust the process.2 -

RM - Richard Murray.
I think he's true identity has been rumbled 😀.8 -

NJ has got promotion out of this league before, so I think he knows what he is doing, and if alfie doesn't fit in with NJ'S ideas so be it...3

Some standout comments on Mitchell from The 100% Imps forums:
'He's our quickest centre back, covers well, strong as an ox and has battling fearlessness. I would say that if you are playing Roughan on the left and one of Jackson/O'Connor he is one of our important three. I wouldn't ideally want to play O'C and Jacko together due to the pace issue.Mitchell's passing appears to have picked up judging by some of his diagonals recently, and if he can add that consistently he would be a favourable addition; with due acknowledgement to your caveat about cost.'
-
'I have been very impressed with him. Not sure what the diff would be between his Millwall salary and what we’d pay him but I’d hope we’d go all out to sign him. Future captain in my humble opinion'
-
'I’ll go for ALEX MITCHELL - terrific all round contribution and would love to sign him permanently. So much passion and fight, but I don’t think Millwall will let us have him if we go up.'
-
'If he does go to Charlton, as appears, really disappointing, but not at all surprised. South London club, potential sleeping giant who should be up there this season under Jones, but above all, money and location were always going to be the big persuader for him no matter how much of a passion he had shown for us. Good luck to the lad, apart from the two games against us.'

The general opinion seems to be that he's a solid defender. With Lincolns fantastic run towards the end of last season, and Mitchell being a regular feature, it sounds quite a promising signing.25 -

Seen some say it's Mcgrandles and some say it's Tom Bayliss the ex Cov and Shrewsbury midfielder.1

I do agree that a basic issue with our side for the last few years is that there are not enough goals through the team. But there is a simple formula that IMO works in a rough sense at least. If you score 85-90 goals in a season, you will usually be well up there. And if you look at averages in terms of goals, it is harder for young players without that history to go on, but if you look at averages and apply them you need to see the goals figure there or there abouts. That will mean from defence and midfield as well as attack. I agree about not counting pens as somebody else can score them, but if you lose the major source of your goals you are already playing catch up trying to find them from other areas.1

My question re Mitchell would be why was he surplus at Millwall last season ?2
