Post-match Thread: Charlton Athletic v Hull City | Sun 9th May 2021
Injuries took their toll on our COVID-affected season. We came out of the gate this season with a run of fine form and finished the same. Can’t help but think what would’ve been if we’d had a consistent, solid centre-back pairing. If we’d performed marginally better in the middle of the season, perhaps we’d have been sitting pretty in a playoffs spot.
Now we’re able to concentrate on building for a League One challenge under Adkins.
Over to you.

Walking is brilliant, whatever your day holds.....ah £uck it, I can’t be bothered......5

Didn't expect anything today but one thing that really is frustrating is our lack of action to remove Bowyer, we would be in the playoffs if we didn't spend 2 months exercising Einstein's definition of insanity.

Played well today and definitely did enough for the win which was all we could do. Ultimately the awful performances towards the end of Bowyers reign cost us.
Looking forward to seeing the squad we build over the summer. Just can’t wait to get back to the valley next season.

What date does next season start?2

Lost one game since February. Bowyer’s last four games and the eleven games since have yielded 30 points. That form through the last third of the season is table topping form. As it was through the first third too.
Unfortunately that two/three month period from Christmas really killed our season. So many stupid lost points.23 -
Hopefully he goes again - on a free transfer.siblers said:Odds on a 'we go again' tweet by Pearce?12 -
It's the hope that kills.
I am looking forward to next season though. I have a feeling that we are relatively safe in Adkins hands - especially if we get recruitment right.
In Adkins first 10 games in charge we Won 5, drew 4 and lost 1. Beating Sunderland, Hull, Lincoln and not looking out of our depth against Peterborough on the way.
You can't turn your nose up at what Bows has done at Birmingham, but if only that change had a happened a few games earlier. We might be in a complete different situation.

Despite being shit and also without a proper centre back pairing for large parts of the season we've ended up just 3 points off 4th place. With decent recruitment this summer i'm fully confident we'll make a strong challenge for automatic promotion next season.12

I watched the Portsmouth game and Portsmouth was terrible,Accrington the better side0

However we're feeling at the moment (I accepted it before the game started) just remember, the next League game held at the Valley... We should all be there13
-
Now we know what division we'll be in let's get our business done early and look forward to August.13

Team was always good enough and should have finished a lot higher then 7th. Bowyer's crazy period from December onwards has cost us big time, should of got rid of him a lot sooner.20

We did what we had to do and it was good to end with a win against the Champions. A hollow victory though, given results elsewhere. So we miss out on the play offs on goal difference. Every team can point to points lost over the season but we threw away so many points against far inferior teams that we can only blame ourselves for falling short.
Finishing 7th feels like a failure but perhaps, given that we started the season under a transfer embargo and more than most hindered by the wage cap, we might reflect that we did well to come so close.
If there is a silver lining it’s that Nigel Adkins, Steve Gallen, Ged Roddy and, of course, Thomas Sandgaard, can now focus 100% on contracts and the much needed recruitment campaign. Looking forward to seeing what happens over the next 3 months and to getting back into the Valley to cheer the lads on to promotion next season.

Good effort today, but the season was lost in a category of individual errors throughout the season, and our 'other' difficulties back at the beginning. Looking forward to next season and seeing what Adkins can do with a team of his own. I've got a very good feeling.6

Forget about penalty misses and late goals conceded. We failed to get on the playoffs because of the management decision not to buy a centre back in January. Our defence for 3 months was bottom half of the table quality.8

Dropped two points a couple of weeks ago against Crewe, they would have been handy today.5

Did Burton really give a debut to their back up keeper who'd been on loan to a non league team this season?

Nigel looking over at Hull celebrating and saying - "That's going to be us next year." Love it!!!25

Got to be honest I'm glad this season is over.
Not being allowed to go has made this season a bit surreal.
Bring on next season with a fresh squad of players and an ambitious new owner with a decent new manager.
We will smash this wanky league next season.14 -
Adkins: That’s going to be us next year!

'We can't get anyone in who would be better than Pratley or Gunter'

Going to be positive. Predicted 15th after we lost to Blackpool. 30 points from last 45 since that game. Roll on next season.0

At least we did ourselves in this season and there was no corruption perpetrated by a bunch of norvern monkies and a useless EFL/FA...1

Potentially in League One next season we have:
Charlton
Sunderland
Blackpool
Portsmouth
Bolton
Sheffield Wednesday
Rotherham
Tough season to get promoted.2 -

Pleased we won.
For those players who will be with us next season, I hope they were made to watch hull lift the trophy, so it drives us next season. Nige just said ' that's us next season.2
