If Adkins is shifting the blame to the recruitment team, it’s the same tale he spun at Hull.As for that, 35 good minutes, then a weird half time substitution that wrecked the balance and we looked meh again.
as for Evans, bloke shouldn’t be working in the sport7 -

We should focus on continuity from here on out.
Continuous utter wank.6 -

This isn't me saying he was fantastic or even good second half, but he was no worse than any other midfield player second half - the singling out of the 21 year old makes no sense.
Peach of a corner for Stockley to fluff was probably his highlight of the half.
Watson specifically plus Morgan stopped running 2nd half & we lost all momentum as the defence had no one to pass to again, that were going to create anything.

I saw some promise in there.Wish we hadnt/didnt have to change it at half time as washington was a constant threat. Didnt think leko got going except for 1 run.Davison, blacket, watson all fantastic for me.Roll on pompey.7

We are in a relegation battle absolutely no doubt about it.0 -
We have to play with a bit more balls. We did in the first half but when they responded we went too safe too many square and backward balls and not going for the higher risk offensive ball. Morgan was a great example near the end, there was a tricky ball on that would have put a player through on goal, delayed and played a simpler ball when their defence was set. We can't continue with this cowardice. I worry we will though, especially at home where players are frightened of getting moaned at.
First half performance was a real positive though and Washington should have scored at least one!1 -
An improvement on what we’ve seen recently, but still unconvincing. Saturday and Tuesday are two big tests and we need 4/6 points - that simple!0

I do not agree or disagree with everything some of our most negative fans have said tonight.
tonight was possibly our best performance after the first home game against Sheffield Wednesday.
and Crewe was the worst team we have played so far and not Gillingham.
However if we lose our next two games Adkins should be Sacked.
But I honestly think we could beat Portsmouth on Saturday if we play for 90 minutes like we did for 45 minutes tonight.
maybe that’s I big ask but I still think it’s possible.

Feel free to shoot me down, but I think there is the basis of a decent side, perhaps not top of the league quality. If they can string a couple of wins together the confidence will build and we will start climbing the table. Just need to get the couple of wins though.....20

Washington came off with a knock. So if you’re blaming the manager for that without knowing the full info you point is irrelevant.
Yeah Gillingham were missing some players but the main ones I remember from last season were in there. Including the 2 players we were desperate to sign this window.2 -

Completely deflated as have not seen anything to suggest we are going to push for a top 6 finish which is an epic failure if that's the case.
This does not look like a team that has a promotion push in its capabilities.
Well done to the supporters who travelled to the game and were loud throughout.
No JFC, Souare, Innis.
Arter, Leko, Gilbey not 90 min match fit, so there's 6 without even thinking if there's more.4 -
Agree with cheshire and 19680

That’s not a good point, it was against a decimated and skint Gillingham who are destined to finished bottom 8. We didn’t nick a point away to Sunderland. Gillingham lost 1-4 at home three days ago, it’s a good point if you think they’re our relegation rivals.Has it not sunk in that the only sides we look like beating are absolute shite.
This is the point I am less than eloquently trying to make. Remembering back to the start of the season most seemed to have us up there and many in the autos such was the belief and expectation.
I thought I was being unduly negative at saying 7th. But since then it seems that expectations have massively dropped perhaps and this is the first season in yonks that there isn't anything to blame like disarray off the pitch, money problems, injury ravaged squads etc.
We had a full pre season and whole window (and more given when Adkins was handed the reins) yet we've managed to beat a Crewe who are in complete disarray according to their fans, a good point v Sheff Wed and a good 35 mins at a poor Gillingham side missing half their team by all accounts.
I get that positivity and optimism is great but it becomes meaningless cliché when TS and Adkins churn it out in abundance hoping to paper over the cracks of a woefully underperforming/ incapable squad.
Whilst it may appeal to many after Bowyer's dour, uber realistic approach it just feels like waffle to many of us I imagine.
Season is looking drab and wasted mid table at best and dread to think how bad at worse if you throw in a few inevitable injuries etc.
Need to click and fast if we are going to turn this season into anything other than a complete washout.15 -

Just managed a draw with Plymouth in the Play-Offs (they got a very late equaliser) and are lucky they had a damned easy start to the season else they'd be doing just badly as us - Fully expecting a drop in standard come Saturday.1 -

Well let's hope we get our best team fit and back soon enough to make a go of the season and hope we are not too far adrift by the time they are to mount a promotion challenge/ top 6 finish.1 -

He is completely lost on what our best XI is and for all the modern bullshit about football being a squad game you MUST know your best XI.
Bowyer’s Play Off winning side
Philips
Djiksteel - Bauer - Sarr - Purrington
Cullen - Bielek - Pratley - Aribo
Taylor - Grant/Parker
Powell’s League One Champions
Hamer
Solly - Morrison - Taylor/Cort - Wiggins
Green/Wagstaff - Hollands - Stephens - Jackson
BWP - Kermorgant
We can all name those sides off by heart, can’t we?
Why? Because the managers identified the best XI and got the maximum out of them.
Right now Adkins is guessing…and he is running out of time to get it right.10 -
Loads better tonight. Good 1st half but then revert back to shite 2nd half . Blackett-Taylor played well and I’d keep Davidson in front of Stockley. In fact I’d keep the same starting 11 against Pompey5
-
Got to say I'm delighted with a point. We were the better side first half and Blackett-Taylor was causing no end of problems for their left back but whilst his finals balls were OK our players seemed reluctant to bust a gut to attack them in the box. Josh Davison links play well but is visibly unconfident in shooting positions. Washington unlucky as well when he did his usual thing and made his chance himself. Lee took his goal well and we deserved the lead then went into half time, came out for the second half and became the team that played Wycombe on Saturday. Evans change it up, brought Lloyd on who had Matthews on toast, Oliver was predictably winning everything in the air and playing that role of back to the goal number 9 excellently. In the end we were hanging on, they had one of those penalty appeals where you'd be gutted if it was given against you but accepting that it was probably a pen. And whacked the post and somehow failed to follow it up
One highlight, now I'm not a fan of Ben Watson particularly, he had an OK game tonight but at the end a mob of rabid, skidmarked, and pock-faced gillingham youth were giving tons of pretty unnecessary and unpleasant abuse to Purrington and Watson, Purrington laughed it off but had one of those faces on that said 'really?' While Ben Watson pointed to each one, ear to ear grin and said "your mum, your mum, your mum, your mum" which sent them even more rabid. God bless him he then told them what their mums had all done (the international gesture for being taken in the mouth) and I've got to say I like Ben Watson a lot now. Fair play to him, thats how you respond to angry virgins like that36 -

To paraphrase he said I played exactly the same way in all bar one game last season, exactly the same way all through preseason, why did it take until deadline day to get the players.5 -
