I know not everyone agrees, but I'd like to see Jacko given an extended run as caretaker to see how it goes.

My fear is that those two, as far as the players are concerned are just a continuation of the Adkins regime. Pity their first game is at Sunderland where I doubt even a bounce will make much difference. As much as I like them as people I think unless it’s only as caretaker I would prefer a new broom.Oggy Red said:

Inevitable. A shame on a human level as I like Adkins and his positivity was refreshing at the start. I suspect he was dealt an unexpectedly bad hand and shouldn’t be carrying the can for all our transfer inadequacies. However, his tactics were outdated and I suspect the Mr Positivity routine earned him a lot of derision within the dressing room. A decent bloke but this wasn’t his gig. I genuinely wish him well.14

I am sure Steve Brown thought that too when he went into management. As we’ve seen Brown talks a bloody good game, but couldn’t convert it into wearing a suit and tie on the bench.Phil said:Jacko ought to get it on a permanent basis. Calm down with writing off Jackson after 30 minutes.
He has his pro licence and he is a natural leader with 445 matches in his locker behind him and has seen how 20 odd managers/ head coaches set up their teams.
I would expect Sunderland to win because how ever we set up they have a better side than us. Anyone disagree with that statement ?
The Doncaster and Rotherham home matches will be a test of a change of mentality.

They might have been part of Adkin's regime but would nevertheless had to work the way he instructed.
Indeed, they could well have preferred to do things differently - but Adkins was the boss, so things were done his way.
Anyway, Jacko & Euelly are caretakers for now. Let's give them a chance.
We'll soon know if it's working or not.

Quite honestly, it's a relief to learn the news of NA's departure.
A relief for us, the faithful as we look with some optimism to the remainder of the season under a Charlton man who will inspire loyalty & pride in wearing the shirt from his players.
But also relief for a decent man who found himself in an unenviable position in the summer transfer window IMO, and from which, he never recovered.
I'm certain that "others" played a part in the manner in which he plummeted from hero to zero but we have to hope that lessons have been learned from this disastrous period by all concerned.
In JJ & JE we trust but as always, the proof of the Xmas pudding etc etc ....
Good luck in whatever you turn your hand to next, Nigel. Hopefully it will be something that is worry free & fulfilling.37 -
Nice chap, but the problem with "positive speakers" is that they can sound like spin doctors if things aren't working out, or if they have no real affiliation with the club. This started to happen of late.
We moved from enjoying his positivity (after LB's red faced agg), to finding it all too easy to ignore his pre and post match conferences, as nothing of real worth or meaning was ever said.6 -

A decent man but one seemingly not really given the back-up within the club to succeed and his departure has been inevitable for weeks. My worry remains that unless things behind the scenes change hard to see a dramatic turnaround. Adkins is the fall guy but the problems would appear to run much deeper. We can but hope ...
