Post-match Thread: Charlton Athletic v Rotherham United | Tuesday 2 November

It ended honours even at the Valley. An in-form Rotherham will perhaps feel lucky to escape with a point after a hard fought battle saw both teams cancelling each other out. Once again, the whole team should feel proud of the shift they put in.

Three weeks ago, we would have lost that match in the first half by quite a margin. Conversely, Johnnie Jackson’s squad showed heaps of character.

Going down on the stroke of halftime was a gut punch (did the ball drift out before being played back in?), but the team responded in the second half and we ran them ragged. A number of talking points, including the failure of the ref to give a second yellow to their defender halfway through the second half.

Conor Washington took his opportunity well. Pleased for him. Elliot Lee troubled them going forward. Our back line and midfield more than matched Rotherham’s established and well-performing squad.

Great performance and a fair result.

Got to be happy with that result against a team that were 4th in the league and unbeaten in 9 i believe. Well done boys.
  • Think we think we’d have all taken that before kick off. Gritty and committed we’re on the up
  • Great game, more composure in front of goal and we could have won that. Chalk and cheese to the Adkins days. JJ’s red and white army!!

Didn’t see Sunderland or Donnie but wow. The difference. It’s hard to believe it’s the same players.
Don’t mess about TS, just give Jacko the job.

On reflection it’s a good point and we all would take that.

Just hard to take, having watched that spineless cretin referee the game.

We would all snap your hand off for 7 points from those last three.

I thought it was a supper performance against a good team.

    Onwards we march.
  • That was a good point tonight.

It says something about the level of performance tonight and in the last couple of matches that there's a tinge of disappointment that we didn't get all three.

I'm delighted for Washy that he got his goal - he does a lot of running and work for the team but doesn't always get his just rewards.

I'm surprised that Stockley stayed on the pitch to the end, I'd have thought that Josh would come on for a pair of fresh legs up front, a different threat to the Millers' defence, and to protect Stockers from an inconsistent ref.

With 7 points from 9 under Jacko I think we're definitely going to head up the table in the coming weeks and months instead of worrying about the drop.

Mind you, Golfie will still have us down as relegation fodder ...

Battling point under the lights, against a promotion favourite. Great stuff

Sounds like another good performance. Coming back from a goal down to get a point is a positive. Previously when we have conceded first that was pretty much game over.
  • Under Adkins that would have been a 3-1 defeat, if we hadn’t conceded just before half-time then we’d have had a good chance of nicking it 1-0.

We are probably too far off the pace to get near the Play Offs this season but we have the rest of the season to build a platform for next year.

Only those inside the tent will ever really know what happened in those games under Adkins, there’s a tale in there for sure.

    Great performance from the team.
  • The ref was a shocker; even our goal came after a clear foul by Conor! The failure to give a second yellow to the Rotherham player was impossible to fathom. We didn’t get what we deserved, but massively encouraging and under JJ we will continue our rise up the table.

I got castigated on Saturday for saying give JJ the managers job on a full time basis, ‘it’s far too soon’, ‘let’s wait until December and then decide’ blah blah blah but come on.....in three games he’s turned what seemed to be a rag tag band of individuals who didn’t have a clue into a team that has some structure, some game plan and most importantly some pride in wearing the shirt and giving their all. Is that not enough? Just got this feeling that our latest Mr Charlton is only getting started.

Thoroughly deserved point against the divisions form team is something we could only have dreamed of four games ago. Feeling positive about our prospects this season was something I’d almost given up on a couple of weeks ago but JJ has given me it back and for that I salute him.

Really enjoyed that. Especially the second half. To a man they gave 100%. DJ playing as a wingback was superb, Lee - quality, The rest of them didn't stop running their arses off. Mac made a superb point-blank save that kept us in the game. Gilbey was everywhere as was Wash who got himself a thoroughly deserved goal. This team is night and day compared to under NA.

Been a while since I've been that excited for a goal and wishing I was there. Love it - keep it going Jacko and Euell!
  • Really enjoyed that. But for some better finishing we could have had 3 points against a good Rotherham side. Ref was a tosser and how their bloke didn't get booked for exactly the same thing he got booked for 5 minutes before is a disgrace.

Difference in these players is incredible and you can see the confidence growing. Can't really fault anyone tonight although Stockley struggled after that early booking and a good display from Wood.

Fully deserved point, just a shame the ref made us work so much harder than we needed to. I missed Doncaster and Sunderland and I can’t believe how different this team looks. Thoroughly enjoyed that tonight and that’s the first time I can say that this season

Just demonstrates how quick things can change in football 3 weeks ago we would have lost that 3 or 4 but at full time we were disappointed not to have won all 3 points ! Fantastic performance from the whole team that I'm sure will climb up the league and make a play off spot by the end of the season.
