I won’t believe anything about May till Swisdom asks him over the garden fence26
-
I expect we're going to say any player is available at the right price. So long as those prices are overinflated so we can adequately replace the outgoing players, I don't see a huge problem.1
-
Just bizarre that some fans - not on here - are talking about offloading May. I get the point that he might not be a Jones striker, although James Collins isn't the athletic powerhouse that it seems is the NJ way.
But the heartbeat of the team last season was Dobbo and May. Binning both off seems a bad idea to me and fans who think showing the door to a 27 goal striker isn't an issue, haven't been following Charlton long enough.

Losing May would be utter utter madness. Would still be building the side around him, just feels like it would be an Andy Reid/Yann level mistake to get rid of him because he doesn't quite fit the NJ profile.11

I'd also be annoyed if we lost Leaburn, but I think he's the more easily replaced of the two.4 -
Will be interesting to see what happens with Miles's contract situation, he's got a year to run so could conceivably speak to sides in Europe in January if he stays fit and hits form. Don't think anyone will come in for him in the summer because of his injury record.0

Apparently Bayern are in for Joe Gomez, do we have a sell on clause or would that have expired when he signed a new contract?0

I would be very surprised if we still have one, all the sharks that have owned us since...

I thought it was confirmed that we do still have a sell on. The contract renewal won’t make a difference to that, the only thing would be if we sold the clause but Cawley dismissed that a while back.11

Selling our best players every season has left us in our worst league position for 98 years. We have lost CBT and Dobson already from the squad that started last season.
What would an overinflated price be for May? £350k? £500K? He is 30+ and only ever played L1. Likely buyer, another L1 club/competitor. He is our best striker. If we want to move a striker on, move on Aneke.
Kanu scored 6 league goals last season (I think, without checking), May got 23. Kanu has promise that's all.
We are already talking about a huge rebuild, say 10 players coming in. I assume a significant number going out. Why make that even more of a challenge by selling one of your best?
That's why I don't believe the rumours. May is worth far more to us than anyone would pay so it is just trouble making rumours by some oddball imo.13 -

As a bare minimum we'd get a Solidarity Payment. If he went overseas we'd get something because of the work we did between his 12th and 23rd birthdays while with us - so we'd get a payment for the years he was 12 up until he left at 18
If he went for £50m we'd get around £1.25m but if it were £20m we'd get around £500k
It's a percentage of a percentage of the fee and that percentage increases with the player's age8 -

No, it is then a fail to not sell Aneke or to not loan Kanu.
You keep your best players, whilst selling/moving on the weaker ones.
We have something like 3-4 billionaire owners, money shouldn't be an issue. The financial fair play rules in L1 are easily got around.
Our owners lose £10M a year in L1, may as well go shit or bust before they lose interest and we continue on this pointless ground hog day of beige.2 -

If the owners aren't hard up then Aneke is completely fine to keep as the luxury option. It does seem as though the new doctor from Brighton has reduced the amount of injuries so far. Maybe too small a sample to size to tell for sure though.2

Selling May would be ridiculous. Cheltenham sold him to us for a pittance and got relegated because of it. Selling May for however much we got for him, especially to a potential rival would cost us far more (both in terms of signing a replacement, goals he would score, and goals helping someone else) than we would get for him.10

He has a yr left, someone will offer him 2. We may have to cover some wages sure, but you are right in that "sell" was the wrong word, "move on" more appropriate.

I'm yet to be convinced he can.4 -
a manager who allegedly can't accommodate the league's top striker in his system is not a good manager - that's you Mr Jones9

But that's what makes him a more saleable asset, we will never see his ceiling for us anyway, and his injury record means he's hard to rely on for fitness this coming season. We need players that aren't so fragile.0 -
