Nathan Jones wants to keep Edmonds Green and Lloyd Jones according to SLP podcast. Didn't play towards the end of the season as Jones had a slight knock and NJ had made his mind up he would be involved this coming season.
Seeing that we only signed REG in January, it would be grim, even by our recent standards, to get shot of him already.

What about Gillesphey though, another January signing.

Charlton Athletic have rejected a bid from Huddersfield Town for League One’s Golden Boot winner Alfie May.

The South London Press understands that the Terriers are set to return with an improved offer for the striker, who scored 23 League One goals last season.

He’s going to go, isn’t he. This seems crazy to me. Remember the same SLT are in place that got rid of Dobbo and CBT and hired Appleton. They are really testing my confidence in them.
  • NJ needs to come out and give his full support to Alfie if he has got the guts .Which i dont think he has.Its got to be all about NJ
Most moronic comment of the year, congratulations

If he lets May go, it will be his first mistake.
We won’t get out of L1 without goals.

We might do, just in the wrong direction!

It's not even about trust in Jones at this point. I just don't trust the owners/senior management enough for to us a decent replacement, or the goals required from other areas of the pitch. They've not got the best form for it.

I'd rather we didn't sell Alfie. He scores goals and I do think he's clever and hard working enough as a player to adapt to different ways of playing. The thing is though, if he doesn't get on with Jones, doesn't like being told what to do on the pitch and wants out as a result then what can we do? Tell Jones to totally change the way he operates? Decide Alfie is too valuable and sack Jones to placate a 31 year old player? If Jones is deliberately forcing him out then that's a bit weird but it feels a bit more like the fit isn't very good and Alfie doesn't like being shouted into position and hauled off if he doesn't do what he's asked and is feeling like leaving as a result. I'd prefer if they worked it out and worked together but if there's a fundamental personality clash then what can we do?

Everyone knows that finding and signing a regular 20+ goals a season striker is exceptionally rare. When you do get one you do everything you can to keep them. Even if NJ and the club hierarchy think they can land another, even better and younger one, it would be one hell of a gamble - and the stakes are very high.

If the move is May out and someone like Bair in, then it's a gamble that we might have to take. I'm in the camp that May shouldn't be sold, and selling your top scorer is never a good idea unless you're getting silly money for them

Yes because Pompey, Derby and Oxford all got promoted because they had Alfie May in their team.
    Ok

Losing our best 2 players in a single transfer window is crap no matter how you spin it.

No smoke without fire and now I think there’s enough smoke. I also think with NJ, it’s my way or the highway. He got rid of some senior players when he first arrived at Luton which disgruntled the fans but of course that worked out. No guarantees it’s going to work out for us. All I can say is replacing 27 goals is going to be extremely difficult. The strikers we’ve been linked to thus far won’t even come close.

Millwall mate when asked about Mitchell-

Excellent  centre half with a great future

We should be keeping him in my opinion he would 3rd choice centre half next season to start but by end of season would be starting 11

Loves a header strong in the tackle and will rum though a brick wall but on the ball can really play.

Every loan has been a success each of those teams wanted to sign him
Reckon he has said I want first team games and I'm not going to sit on the bench all season after 2 seasons of first team games. And only 1 year left we take some profit

Letting May go would in my opinion, put a question mark over NJ. No manager with the ambition to get promoted lets his top scorer leave. I don’t give a shit if NJ doesn’t get on with him personally. It’s not about you being mates with everybody, it’s about the success of CHARLTON ATHLETIC.

If May goes, it’s more cracks in NJ,s reputation. His 15 matches undefeated to finish 16th, didn’t particularly impress me……..

Hasn't Fraser got a house near Dundee as he played for Dundee United?

Been told this morning "All that has happened is that we have turned down a bid. That's it. "
So the story was true then. Interesting times ahead
Maybe it's.just that one is taller than the other

If he can come in and be as good as Morro was that would be one hell of a signing.

We still need a captain on the pitch. I always favour a centre back for that role but Mitchell is a bit too young at the moment.
  • Do people genuinely think that we'll sell May? Unless the bid is £1mill there is no possible calculation in my head to get rid that makes any sense whatsoever.

NJ is a big personality who stamps his authority on sides historically, but he's not a fool. Selling a guaranteed goal return to a rival for £200k makes no sense to anyone at Charlton surely

Potentially a fully fit and confident Jones?

I don’t see Mitchell being released by Millwall, as in ‘if he is any good Millwall would keep him’ as any reason not to be very hopeful.
I think Mitchell came through the ranks and maybe played a minor cup game for them. I suspect his progress at Millwall may have been slowed considerably because of the strength they already had in the area he played.
I am hopeful this might be a Michael Turner (remember him?) kind of signing for us. He was a player who eventually moved on, not because he wasn’t a good player, but because at the time we thought we had better and couldn’t see a place opening up for him.
Michael Turner went on to have an excellent career.

Captain is an interesting one , I expect it will ultimately end up being someone we sign as I don't really see any standout candidates in players that are currently at the club. Wonder if Luke Berry could be an option?
