Wait, Charlton aren't your local team ?JessieAddick said:Well, in fact I do have something more to say. My father watched the second half with me and after the final whistle he asked 'Why do you support this team? How did you become a fan? They looked so so poor and showed no will to fight. ' My answer: 'We certainly weren't like this when Curbs was here! I would never have become a fan if the team had been playing like this back then!'

Could go on for ages about the problems Sarr brings the team, but I'm not going to bother and will just leave this note.
One player picked up an injury today which was a midfielder, and THD was forced to play in 3 different positions due to the coach tinkering. This isn't acceptable, THD played very well considering... Ipswich set up to beat us in our diamond formation as MM said, we set up how Fraeye thinks we play best which is going to come unstuck very quickly.3 -
I reckon that 2% is edging up to 3% after that performance.8
-
Jesus.
Very few positives to take from that. Ipswich weren't great but we looked so, so very terrified with the ball coming at us in defence. Bauer looked petrified and Sarr looked like he'd turned up with a head injury. Solly was a total liability and the only defender to come out of that game with any credit was THD, who was superb in all three of the positions he played in today. Quite why Karel brought Solly on for Jackson when he could have brought on Ba I don't know. Ba showed against Weds that he suits the diamond so it was a bizarre decision, and Solly rewarded it by turning in a shocker.
Cousins and Gudmundsson couldn't impose themselves on the game enough and we didn't help by bypassing them all game for the space where Makienok's head should have been. He was on his heels all of the first half and then that transmitted into him stropping around the place in the second for a fairly disgraceful performance. When he actually got the ball to feet he played some tidy stuff so again the defence need a proper talking to about using the ball intelligently. Vaz Te and Reza both looked really good when they came on and I have no idea why Reza didn't start, and why Fraeye left it so long to bring him on. Clueless.
A word about Lookman, he was very positive and exciting going forward, but he's not the answer. Every shot he hit was scuffed or weak, and if he was still out there now he wouldn't score. I'm not trying to disparage him as a player as I thought it was an excellent home debut but he'll create more than he'll score and as a result we still need a proper striker. Over time as well I think he'll suffer from being blunted like all young players are and he'll need to be rotated out. He's a young player we can call on to stretch games and unsettle the opposition. He's not a replacement for Tony Watt, that's for sure.
Overall today we were undone by our defence being a nervous wreck and Ipswich capitalising on that with a simple long ball game. Karel cocked up his own tactics first by moving THD and then by switching to whatever the hell we were supposed to be after half time. It was only when Reza, Lookman and Vaz Te formed a front three that we looked like actually playing some football. Dire all round.
Can we have a proper manager now?13 -
I was lost when he brought Solly on considering how well THD has been measuring up. Maybe, I thought, it's to pass the captains armband as Solly (rightly or wrongly) is VC but no Henderson had it.....0
-
Big decisions must be made. Will Roland make them ?1
-
Other then a flashes in the last 10 minutes, that was back to terrible, Ipswich did not look that great but they have an experienced Championship set up on & off the pitch which showed today.
We need a few more Jackson types in the squad to help out the young and European players on days like this.
Positives, Lookman looks exciting although still raw, hopefully we don't put too much pressure on him too soon and I thought Reza & Vaz Te both looked decent when they came on, I would start them upfront together for the next game personally.1 -
Harriot scored again....go on TWWW3

No indivual errors for any goal but mostly 1 on 1 for each. Our banks of 4-4-2 don't go up and back together. Under the last 7? managers. It is a simple strategy. Why can't experienced coaches get it?0

Spending £2m+ on the likes of Polish Pete .......
700,000 Euros or around £500,000, spread over the length of his contract.
I do agree with you, however, about our recruitment policy in general.

Well you all saw it for yourselves so not a lot to say. We have had worse 0-3 home defeats this season, but today was another 0-3 home defeat against a decent Ipswich side who didn't really have to get out of second gear.
Goal difference must be appalling, I have to hide behind the sofa when the tables are shown.
I suppose Roland will be delighted though, because it was a televised showcase for Lookman, easily our best player, and Roland can start to estimate how much he can get for the lad to mitigate the increasing losses and mad spending.
Jacko got injured five minutes before he went off, and in that moment the game was lost, because after he left we had, what, Solly and Cousins outfield who knew enough about this kind of Championship game? We then had strangers and kids trying to hold it all together. Hold it together against a McCarthy and his excellent management of a good team, a good club, with good support.
More or less lambs to the slaughter, even if some of those lambs are quite pretty.8 -
First goal, foul on Solly. Second goal killed us. Had some decent spells in second half and could have scored 3 but for Gerken. Vaz Te, Lookman and Reza all looked lively. As said, Ba should have replaced Jacko. Solly was pushing forward and got caught out twice, poor tactics from Carol, outsmarted by McCarthy. Ipswich have joined a growing list of our bogey teams.0

Watched on Tv.
Too many defensive errors cost us.
I don't think Ipswich looked 3 goals better than us.
As Johnny Mercer (who?) wrote .. I'm gonna accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative .. I watched on TV .. Their keeper was superb .. The referee was fucking useless allowing (e.g.) Ipswich to feign head injury too often when we had the ball in good positions .. Fraeye got it right after 1/2 time .. BigMak was awful, needs to man up more and put himself about .. our defence was bullied for the first goal, Solly was fouled .. second goal was an unlucky deflection .. 3rd goal was a very good one .. Lookman is a star already, Holmes-Dennis is another diamond .. Vaz te is going to come good as is Reza .. 3-0 was VERY flattering .. the Sky curse goes on .. IF we had Murphy and they had BigMak today, we would have won this .. on to the next games .. ENCOURAGE THE TEAM. ALL THIS NEGATIVITY IS SELF DEFEATINGsam3110 said:Most flattering 3-0 ever, two out of the 3 goals were shit, Ipswich were shit, their players were boring, niggly, moaning prima donnas, but our players were just a tad more shit.

Biggest problem is that Ipswich are a poor side. We were clueless but much better second half.0
-
If this team was a dog, you would put it down. Piss poor performance from approximately minute 10 to the finish.0

McCarthy proved today that you have to get the basics right.
They were strong, organised and played ugly.
And often that's what you need in the Championship.

Positives - Lookman ,Vaz Te apart from that meh.
Charlton 0 Experience 3 Ipswich were not that good but had far experience which ground out a flattering result imo but did derserve to win.
Negatives - Big Mak , just do not see what others see in him, never attacks the ball, lightweight for someone so big and makes Leaburn look like Pele, can we send him back in January? because no way would i buy him.
Well done to the 2% much better than screaming outside up at the west stand, more classy imo.

Wasn't an awful performance today. Couple of mistakes at the back and lack of skill going forward cost us.
Thought Makienok was awful.1 -
Awful performance yes. Outplayed? I don't think so. That's the most worrying thing. Ipswich, in my opinion, weren't even that good and yet still win 3-0 which says a lot for our performance.SantaClaus said:Awful performance. We were outplayed and completely outmuscled. The way Solly was handed off for the first goal was embarrassing.
The positives are Vaz Te and Reza actually looked like a strike pair and Lookman was good. Other than that, not really much to get excited about.2 -
Makienok did struggle today but he couldve been thinking he'd turned up to a Fulham game instead of Charlton.0

Thank you for saying that. One thing I always feel really proud of is that Charlton have got lots of fans who are really nice people (despite I've never met any one of you personally), one of the main things that make the club so special. It's nice to know the pain is shared across the globe. Fair play Jessie it's not easy supporting us, even if you don,t get to watch it every week.JessieAddick said:

A dismal performance, with Lookman and THD the only real positives. Our defending was the worst I've seen for some time and Sarr's sluggishness and lack of positional awareness seemed to undermine us generally. Time to give Harry Lennon a run in the side.
The gap between us and Ipswich - a tough, streetwise and ruthless outfit - is epitomised by a comparison of the respective managers/head coaches (one a grizzled, smart operator, the other a greenhorn) and the two centre forwards. Whereas practically everything stuck up front with Murphy, enabling him to bring others into play, Makienok had his worst game for Charlton. He completely lost his discipline in the second half and was lucky not to be sent off after giving the referee sarcastic applause just after being booked.
At least we didn't totally throw in the towel and finally gave their goalie a bit of exercise late on, although by then the game was well and truly up.
Another very worrying performance.7 -
Unhappy team clearly not at ease with themselves. Still wasn't as bad as the Brentford game, but as soon as they scored that was pretty much it. Defensively we have fallen apart.
If you were searching for positives, Lookman looks interesting, and on another day Vaz Te would have netted, keeper did fantastic.
Another cold day looking round at about 6-7000 home fans and knowing you should be doing something better with your time than this.8
