Bloody ridiculous that it was even given as a foul, even more ridiculous was their number 9 curled up in a ball almost convulsing in pain... Yet he got up and played on. Dirty cheat played the ref there.

Its a shame they didnt show the foul on the Goalkeeper
You could argue the ball was still live but Matt Taylor's challenge on Amos in the first half was surely just as bad?
Ironic as he did get a Yellow Card himself in the second half

Sadly Dazz this is creeping more and more into the English game. I watched the hi-lights show on Quest at the weekend and saw several players going down as if they had been shot however the ref ignored them and they were up and chasing back within seconds.
Lot more players going down with the slightest of touches in the box as well looking for pens, used to be a problem in Italian football however we are very close behind them now.

Can argue its an issue that the referees have created themselves though
How many of us were saying that Maatsen should have gone down before he cut the ball back to Purrington late on

I thought it looked like he was shoved into the keeper during the game, but could be remembering it wrong... I thought he was shoved as the ball came in falling on the GK.
The one disappointing aspect tonight is that not one of our players came through our academy bar a reserve keeper who hasn't even played a league game for us as of yet.
A sign of the times and with Doughty potentially leaving in January I do wonder if we have any coming through who will be good enough to play for us, on a regular basis and in the foreseeable future, especially if we are fortunate enough to make it to the Championship next season?

Williams does this every time someone goes near him. Bloody annoying.
Job done - 3 points, another clean sheet and into the top 6, with a game in hand on everyone above us. A very satisfactory night’s work.
A curious first half, with Oxford’s passing and movement much better than ours for most of it. We looked static and unimaginative in midfield, with Oxford pressing well and forcing us into long, hopeful balls from the back. Shinnie turned the game on its head with a lovely piece of control and turn, followed by a precise through ball to Washington, who tucked in his third of the season.
We picked up a bit after that and Shinnie’s free kick just before half time was the icing on the cake.
I thought we were much better in the second half and dominated the first 20 minutes or so. The sending off of Inniss for two needless yellows changed the dynamic to an extent, although we managed the game very competently and saw it out without too much difficulty against a typical Karl Robinson side - neat and tidy in possession, lots of possession and very little end product.
I thought that Famewo was outstanding at that back and that we were solid defensively throughout. Gunter showed all his experience and Maatsen made some great runs forward, as well as defending well. Shinnie was by far the pick of the midfielders and I thought that Smyth had a very good second half. Overall, a fine team effort and excellent application when we went a man down, with everybody knowing and performing their job.
The referee was an irritating, card-happy pedant but that was apparent from the outset and our players need to be a bit smarter. Happily, it didn’t affect tonight’s outcome, although it may have ramifications for Saturday.
Losing Inniss and Watson through suspension is obviously a blow against an in form Pompey side. Pratley can drop into the back four but he is important in midfield in the absence of Watson. I wonder if Lee might be tempted to slot Gunter into central defence and introduce Adam Mathews at right back. On the plus side, we should be able to get significant minutes out of both Chuks and Maddison on Saturday.
Happy days - and there is a lot more to come from this team and squad.
Washington & Shinnie saved me tonight because after 30 mins I was going to post at half time that anyone who thinks we are top 6 material are having a bubble. Up to the goal we were awful - disjointed & devoid of ideas. The 2nd half we were no better but by then all we had to do was to defend the lead- which we did admirably and with grit & determination. Both Watson & Innis will be a big miss but our record at Fratton Pk is second to none - cant remember losing there & recent times matches there have been pivotal on us getting into the play offs.
Honourable mentions tonight for Washington & Smyth, along with the back 5 (of course) but like many my MOTM was Shinnie.
My 1 negative is again our goal scoring. I keep banging this drum so much I've have had to have it re-skinned 3 times already this season !
Tonight showed that Smyth is better out wide & with his miss on Saturday, confirms he wont be troubling the scorers much this season. Bogle is obviously not match fit but even when he is he's battling with Magennis for the "tall striker who cant win a header" trophy - so you can also count him out to be into double figures come May next year. Aneke cant play 2 games in a row so we'll be lucky for him to play 20 times this season, let alone score that many. So, it looks like the burden will fall on the American (geddit). Shame Bowyer has had him on the bench for the past couple of games.......
It's not a coincidence that of the top 6 we have the worst goal difference & worst goals scored (admittedly played 1 game less, but to catch them we would have to score 5 or 6 ). In fact, only 1 team above 18th have scored less than us (Crewe).
As I said a week or so ago, it would be nice on occasions to score more than twice in a match. On saturday we will probably need to if we want to win.

It’s not a coincidence because we gave the top 6 a 4 game headstart.
our goal scoring in the last 5 games, since we’ve had a team that can compete has gone 0, 1, 1, 2, 2 and we haven’t conceded any. That’s a good enough record for me for a team who are learning each other’s games game by game.
We’re not playing free flowing/free scoring football yet because we don’t have a fully fit squad. Bogle had not had a training session in 6 months before he came to us 3 weeks ago.
We will only improve and I’ve seen enough to suggest we’ll get enough goals if we keep it this tight at the back.
Looks like Bowyer has decided to take a fairly pragmatic approach to the league this season. Keep it simple, grind out results and base tactics on a rock solid defence instead of a high firepower strike force. It won't always be very pretty or exciting but it does work. And it means that the likes of Gilbey and Maddison can be eased in gently over time and not rushed back into action the instant the bandages come off.
Bloody ridiculous that it was even given as a foul, even more ridiculous was their number 9 curled up in a ball almost convulsing in pain... Yet he got up and played on. Dirty cheat played the ref there.
Just watched it again several times myself @Dazzler21
In effect Taylor ran into the advancing Inniss, but had already got to the ball and played it a split second before. That's the touch on the ball that makes it a foul rather than an accidental collision.
The referee will have adjudged that Inniss missed the ball and body checked the Oxford player.
No doubt in my mind that Taylor intentionally played for the free kick. That's what professionals do, of course ....... but by rolling around and making a meal of it, he made the incident look worse than it was.

We are not top six material, we are top two material. And before you suggest a bet, remember that you just lost the last bet tonight, with four games for me to spare! 15 points from 12 games - not top six material - you're having a laugh

You do mention that we've played a game less, Golfie .......... but there's no acknowledgement that we'd played the first 4 games with an embargo blighted weaker team, other clubs had more or less completed their squads before the season began. It wasn't a level playing field, which is why we were playing a 17 year old schoolboy - but we're now trying hard to make up lost ground.
And BTW no club in the division has conceded less goals than Charlton.
Great result after rpm we made oxford look like Brazil for the first 30. Bogle is very disappointing imo, static and can’t trap or head the ball. Eek, get Aneke fit! Our defence was awesome and what a play Shinnie is.
PWR - not really at it first half and Oxford must have been scratching their heads how we were 2 up. Second half much, much better. Showed more attacking intent and some good performances. Smyth, Shinnie, Maatsen, Famewo, Inniss all very impressive. Gunter solid. Washington and Bogle worked hard and the former took his goal well. Amos did ok although spilled one in the first half that could have cost us. Watson got better as the game went on although he was lucky not to be sent off. Inniss first booking was stupid and unessessary. Going to miss him Saturday.
Still don’t think we are firing on all cylinders and looking forward to getting Maddison and Gilbey into the side.
All in all a decent performance, onwards and upwards.

Completely different challenges
Taylor fouled Amos challenging for the ball, Inniss pulled Eastwood back when Eastwood had control of the ball and was about the launch it up field to start an attack. A definite booking
Brilliant result and we go marching on but that will all come to a halt at Pompey , we’ve ridden our luck and I can see a wake up call on it’s away via Marquis and co on Saturday . We’ll miss Watson and Inniss no doubt and with Pratley possibly out of midfield we’ll suffer there and we won’t find a keeper as flappy as that fella for a long while . Shinnie is a lovely player to watch and there’s plenty of graft out there but we’re obviously gonna need more time to gel as a n attacking force . We’ve played the guff teams and grinded out results now let’s see what we can do against a genuine top 6 challenger .
v Oxford: 2 goals from 2 shots on target v Northampton: 2 goals from 2 shots on target v Blackpool: 1 goal from 1 shot on target v Wigan: 1 goal from 5 shots on target v Sunderland: 0 goals from 0 shots on target
Although it should be impossible to be negative after 4 wins and 5 clean sheets, this luck can't continue. And bear in mind that the 4 wins (with minimal chances created) were against the teams 23rd, 20th, 19th, and 18th in the table. And let's face it, we were bloody lucky not to concede against Sunderland.
When we signed Bogle and Smyth as strikers, everyone looked at their goal scoring records and were worried. Well they've both got 4 appearances to their name now and 0 goals. They don't naturally get into goal scoring positions, and Smyth just isn't a striker, so not sure why he was classified or signed as one. We are hanging our hats on Chuks, but he can't complete 90 mins and is injured half the time. Our best winger is now out for a couple of months or so.
Our attack is absolutely torrid. We shouldn't let 4 wins against relegation fodder disguise that fact. I see troubles ahead, unless Maddison makes a huge impact.

It's fair to praise Smyth but to mention his name in the same sentence as the great Johnny Robinson just feels very very wrong.
If there were such a thing as a 'Charlton snack' you would go without for a week.

Why didn't the Oxford player get a card (yellow or red) when Bogle was brought down, just outside the area, when he was through on goal?
Why is that moron allowed to referee professional football?

Didn’t see the match only the highlights on Sky, apart from our goals, looked all Oxford, was it?
Can’t obviously tell from the sky clip but did we only have two chances and scored both?
What appears to bode well, is beating a team we normally struggle against!
