I've just received an email to say that it's the first day of spring and International Day of Happiness. Bring on summer and let the happiness return.5

''When's the last time a Charlton side played well for both halves of a game. So frustrating.''
In answer to the above comment, when we beat Chelsea 4-2 just after one Christmas (in the Premiership) and later they nicked Scott Parker from us!3 -
I’d bring Deji back in for Pearce. I don’t think Pearce is better than him and we all know Bows didn’t rate him, fresh start gives him one final chance. Also allows Famewo to move back to the left hand side.1

I never believe that it's the best plan to bring in players who are not likely to be better than you already have.
Plus, of course, all the loans will need replacing.

Good first half and Charlton deserved to be ahead. Millar and Jayesimi had their beating of their full backs. It didn't help, switching formation and losing this threat. The constant formation changes helped produce a dire and frustrating second half performance, where Charlton could barely string 2 passes together and constanlty lost the ball. Wimbledon were energetic and did push forward but still needed a goal conceeded that only Nabby Saars' Wembley own goal can rival. It is very Charlton to generate lots of expectation, promise so much but shoot themselves in the foot and frustrate.3

Would anyone really care if we let the entire squad go in the summer and signed 23 new players?4

Jaiyesemi came on and it looked like we played 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. Something I've been wanting for awhile so we can pack midfield, but also block their runners space when we lose possession. We seemed the most productive for weeks, with Morgan roaming inbetween offering and picking up loose passes. Whilst at turnover Morgan plugged holes, and either FC, or Shinnie were in position or getting back. Both Millar and Jaiyesimi had their opposing full backs occupied in the final third. But then we swap Jaiyesimi and Millar, and then even worse Millar goes central behind Stockley second half. What the hell was that? Oh we're playing a diamond again, whereby each and everyone of our midfielders come out of the game offensively barring Shinnie.
Nice one Johnnie! It seems like the players played their natural game and it was effective, but when the coaches forced their system on them we were shape wise terrible. Poor Maatsen had to face up to two AFC players for virtually the whole of the second half, because Millar was central and not pushing their rb back or at least making him defensively wary. Morgan who was excellent first half moving left to right centrally, probing and bringing people into play was immediately nullified as a threat by this idiotic decision. I don't like the diamond anyway, but if your're going to play it you need the player at the apex to be physically able to win and hold up play. Jaiyesimi or Millar centrally, either in the apex or 2nd striker? Honestly so disappointed in Johnnie's insistence on reverting to our awful diamond shape I can't be bothered losing it on F|amweo's backpass.6 -

DJ was taken off for (poor) tactical reasons. Two completely different things.
I'm with Curbs 100% today. We looked really good with Millar on the left and DJ on the right, with the Wimbledon full backs really struggling, yet we changed formation from this, and ended the game with no wingers on the pitch, and ended up looking toothless
In retrospect the bench for the last 2 games has been a bit odd, against the likes of Bristol R or Wimbledon we don't need both Pratley and Watson on the bench, when 1 plus a more creative midfielder like Smith or Gilbey (who must be fit by now) would give more options.

Nigel made a point of saying he is going to watch rthe U23"s on Monday. Wouldn't mind betting he is going to blood a few of them in the coming weeks.21

Our defending is beyond woeful at times - positionally incontinent, some of them.
Still DJ being encouraged to run at their defenders is hopefully a sign of things to come, but it's going to take a while for some of these players to get their confidence back and for most of them, it's probably the end of the road for them at CAFC.
Not really sure who Nads would want to keep, but we'll find out at the end of the season. I suspect it's not many.
P.S Start with a solid keeper, Nads. Oh, and a new defence. Our lot at the back are a disaster magnet!0 -
I'm interested to see how Adkins gets us playing in the final few games, but after initially being very positive, I'm starting to think that Stockley is not what we need if we're going for top 2 next year. I know this is mad, because he's scored a decent amount, including today, but the technique, mobility and passing has me worried. Can't put my finger on it.
(Not wanting to single out Stockley as he was nowhere near the worst performer today, it's just been nagging away at me in the last few games, when I would have signed him up after his first few games for us.)6 -

Worst I have seen Fam play. Not just the goal his all round play was awful.
We really do need a complete clear out for next season.0 -

Shit squad send Femewo back to whatever club mugged us off with him and the Chelsea boy. Absolute Bollox team1

Got them on the ropes and then smashed ourselves in the face.11

There not much anyone can do when a player makes an error like Famewo did .. without we win 1-2 ... football a very tough game at times4
-
I listened on the radio rather than stream, sounded a fairly even game overall.
We simply haven't been good enough through the season, too many teams below us with 2/3 games in hand and not much of a point gap you'd have to say we're unlikely to make the top 6, which on paper with the squad we have we really should have been a shoe in for the play offs.
Still a 2 week break now for Adkins to work out his favoured 11, you never know.........0 -
To be fair the last two fixtures it seems like were Jackson sides. I am not surprised they looked like Bowyer performances still. It's also only been 5 days.

The Doncaster game is massive one now
Yes we obviously need the points, but moreover it's the real start of the Adkins era. 2 weeks to evaluate the players and decide how we are to play for the remainder of the season, Doncaster is the chance to set down a marker.6 -
I am a bit confused why Purrington has slipped out of the picture. He came back into the side and did as well and anybody before being dropped from the squad.11

If the original poster pointed out that Bowyer would have been slaughtered for the seemingly wierd tactical decision, compared to Adkins, then he may well have been right. But there's far more mitigating circumstances involved there, then whipping Williams off after 10 minutes because he pulled out of a tackle.3 -

Does Aneke actually aim for the woodwork?
Their second goal - at least it diverts attention away from how catastrophic the defending was for their first.3
